Ghost of a Chance is Katherine Garbera at her best. With its unique plot and unusual (and fun) characters, this hot, sexy story hits all the right spots. Ghost of a Chance is one of my favorites. I thoroughly enjoyed it!

The perfect cozy read with a hint of mystery for fall.

Kirsty Henson is a bestselling author who only pretends to see ghosts. But when Jasper shows up with a real spectral sidekick, the pretending is over. As they work together to solve the ghostly mystery and fight their growing feelings, they discover that true love might just be stronger than death.

I've been slowly getting into cozy mysteries so when I saw this book, I knew I needed to pick it up. Ghost of a Chance was just that, a pleasant cozy mystery with a great romance.

I found the premise really interesting and couldn't wait to dive into this. A writer who pens mysteries and claims to have the ability to see spirits. Jasper is being haunted by his college roommate. He asks for her help and the plot ensues. I really liked the paranormal element here and thought it was blended well into the cozy mystery/romance. The book kept me guessing and I needed to know how this was going to be resolved. The ending here was great.

The romance is nice and develops well throughout the book. I thought Jasper and Kirsty had good chemistry. There romance is an age gap with her being older, which I did feel sometimes that Jasper came off as pushy or not as mature as Kirsty. But that didn't last long so it didn't bother me too much about his character. This is also a slow burn which I found suited this pairing. The slow build was great for including little moments and tension between them.

This also brought the Halloween/spooky fall vibes. So readers are going to devour this in the Fall when it comes out.

loved this romance and helping a ghost move on . loved that they met at a concert and ended up working together . loved that they were both nerds and that they found love.

Kirsty, a mystery writer and goth girl, meets Jasper, a down-on-his-luck news station worker. They instantly hit it off but the spirit of Jasper’s roommate (and the crutch of most of his problems) intervenes. After being stuck together for work, the lies and secrets quickly stack between them as they try to unravel the spirit from Jasper’s
This story had a cute romance, some angst, a small age gap (she’s older!), and a good plot twist.
If you like cozy, paranormal romances like Erin Sterling or Jenny Sandiford then this might be for you!

This book was so refreshing! It didn’t remind me of any other book I have read this year. The characters were sweet and relatable. The plot was fun, silly, and heartfelt. The spice was tasteful and fun. Great read!

An author who writes about ghost stories (and *may* have implied to people she could also communicate with ghosts) finds herself working to exorcise one from a physics book.

Paranormal romance with fun banter and a slow burn. Both cozy and spicy.

Thanks to Harlequin for this ARC in exchange for my honest review. Watch for Ghost of a Chance to come out September 30, 2025.

I absolutely loved this book! From the first page, I was hooked by the quirky, clever premise and the undeniable chemistry between Kirsty and Jasper. Kirsty’s ghost talking gig might be fake, but the sparks between her and Jasper? 100% real and sizzling. The blend of humor, mystery, and paranormal chaos (hello, ghost-possessed physics book obsessed with Judge Judy!) made for such a unique and entertaining read.
The characters were vibrant and layered, and I especially enjoyed how the story balanced emotional depth with laugh out loud moments. The supernatural twists kept me guessing, and the romance felt both fun and meaningful. If you’re a fan of witty banter, slow-burn attraction, and a touch of ghostly mischief, this one is an absolute must-read. I didn’t want it to end

✨3.5 stars✨

I wasn’t sure what to expect going into Ghost of a Chance, but it was pleasantly a cozy mystery just like the ones that our FMC Kirsty writes! Our story follows Kirsty a faux medium and Jasper who has been carrying around a haunted book since his roommate died five years ago. He corners Kirsty when she is interviewing with his boss about her newest book and the two of them are pulled into a mini series about his haunting and his hope that Kirsty can exorcise his life. These two were very angsty, Jasper is our resident lost boy and Kirsty a goth icon. I liked the story and the premise but I wasn’t the biggest fan of Jasper, he was younger than Kirsty and he drove me pretty bananas with how he wouldn’t tell her all the details of something. That being said I was relieved when they finally got together because I did find them well suited and the spice was a good time! If you are looking for something spooky and fall themed, I’d recommend adding this one to the tbr!

This is about a cozy paranormal romance that involves a mystery writer who pretends to talk to ghost and a one night stand who just must be haunted. It seems his college roommate is trapped in an old physics book as he seeks her help. Instantly sparks fly as their chemistry blossoms. Can they keep their hands off each other and find away to free his friend? It is a quirk paranormal cozy that you will enjoy.

Sometimes, love knocks on your door. Other times, it barges in with a haunted physics textbook and a ghost who won’t shut up about Judge Judy. Ghost of a Chance is delightfully strange in all the best ways—an offbeat blend of paranormal chaos, laugh-out-loud dialogue, and reluctant romantic entanglement that had me grinning through entire chapters.

The premise alone promises fun: Jasper is being haunted by the sarcastic spirit of his late college roommate, who’s decided that unfinished business includes meddling in Jasper’s love life and quoting courtroom TV. When Jasper seeks out Kirsty, a fake psychic who’s suddenly faced with a very real haunting, the story kicks off into a fast-paced, banter-filled escapade that’s as hilarious as it is heartfelt.

Kirsty is easily one of my favorite characters in a paranormal romance this year. Cynical, sharp-tongued, and deeply human, she’s just trying to coast by on staged séances and half-hearted tarot reads until the universe hands her a ghost she can’t ignore—and a man she really shouldn’t fall for. The banter between Kirsty and Jasper is full of sharp comebacks and simmering tension that feels earned and slow-burning. They start off wary of each other, but slowly fall into a rhythm that’s both chaotic and weirdly tender.

The book balances its humor with emotional depth surprisingly well. Jasper’s backstory—grief, guilt, and a need to make peace with the past—is layered into the comedy in a way that never feels forced. And Kirsty’s own emotional guardrails begin to crack as she’s drawn into a mystery bigger than either of them expected.

That said, there were a few moments where Jasper’s enthusiasm veered into a bit much. His flirtation occasionally edged on overly persistent, and while it didn’t cross any major lines, it was enough to make me pause. Still, Kirsty is no damsel, she handles him with confidence and wit, never letting their dynamic tip too far out of balance.

The ghostly roommate was a comedic gem, and the mystery of why he was stuck added a nice layer of intrigue. The narrative never tries to be spooky for the sake of it, instead leaning into the weirdness with charm. And as someone who loves a romantic comedy with just a splash of magic, this was right up my alley.

For readers who like:
-Paranormal romcoms
-Found family
-Smart, snappy dialogue

Final Verdict
Ghost of a Chance is the kind of book you curl up with when you want to laugh, swoon a little, and maybe rethink what you’d do if your college buddy came back from the afterlife with opinions. It’s warm-hearted, weirdly charming, and refreshingly original.

Grateful to NetGalley, Harlequin Romance and Katherine Garbera for the opportunity to read an advance copy of this story in exchange for an honest review.

This was a super cute paranormal romance. It had great spooky season vibes, but it was definitely more focused on the romance.

I really loved the two main characters, they were so lovable from the very beginning. The side characters were also great and added to the story.

The book was also very funny and fun, I had a great time reading this.

Ghost of a Chance is a quirky, charming, and delightfully offbeat paranormal rom-com that blends steamy chemistry, spooky shenanigans, and just the right dose of heart.

Kirsty Henson has made a career out of pretending to speak to the dead. As a bestselling mystery author with a "ghost whisperer" persona, she’s used to faking the supernatural for fame and fortune. But her world gets flipped upside down after a sizzling one-night stand with Jasper Cotton—who just happens to be actually haunted.

Jasper’s predicament is as hilarious as it is bizarre: his college roommate’s ghost is trapped inside an old physics textbook, obsessed with Judge Judy, and absolutely unwilling to move on. Desperate for help, Jasper turns to Kirsty, dragging her into a hilarious, ghost-fueled mystery filled with secrets, sarcasm, and serious sexual tension.

The true magic of this story lies in the sharp, witty banter between Kirsty and Jasper. Their connection is instant but layered, evolving from awkward encounters to reluctant allies to something much deeper. Kirsty’s struggle to balance her fake psychic career with a very real haunting adds both humor and emotional depth, while Jasper’s haunted past is as compelling as his present situation.

With a plot that’s equal parts playful and heartfelt, Ghost of a Chance is perfect for readers who love their romances with a dash of the supernatural and a whole lot of charm. It’s a story about facing your ghosts—both literal and emotional—and finding unexpected love along the way.

If you like cozy mysteries, laugh-out-loud paranormal hijinks, and slow-burn romance with a side of ghostly matchmaking, this book is your perfect match.

In this story we meet Kirsty- An author, who is also known for her psychic abilities. We also meet Jasper, a news station segment producer, who is being haunted by his college roommate.
Kirsty gets roped into letting the station film her relieving Jasper of his ghost problem. The issue? She had never actually communicated with the dead. She is a total fraud- or so she thinks.
Desperate to not ruin her image and her career, she and Jasper work together to stop the haunting.
Secrets come to light, their romance comes to life and at the end they discover something they never expected.

This was a quick and easy read.
I thought it was quite cute, and I liked the spooky mysterious feel.

My favorite part of the story was reading about Kirsty, and her author alter-ego.
She dresses and behaves differently when she is doing interviews/book related things- and she feels like that is the “real her”. Despite being too afraid to be that person in her daily life.

The romance aspect of his novel was nice as well. I thought her and Jasper were nice together. However, I felt like Jasper was somewhat.. pushy, in a few scenes.
He was very physically interested in Kirsty, and that seemed to overtake his thoughts and actions at certain points.
It was not to an extreme and wasn’t really a huge deal. It was just something I noticed and felt I should point out.

Lastly, I am a sucker for a good plot twist- and this provided!
I thought the ending was great.

Overall, it was enjoyable.
I think it would be a nice read for the fall season, especially if you like magic/paranormal themes.
