Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing a digital copy for this review. The illustrative nature of this book is really cute and aesthetically pleasing, some of the recipe artwork I would happily display in my kitchen. I do wish, however there were photographs of some of the recipes for reference… it would be helpful to see the size and shape of certain preparations, knife work just to make sure we’re getting the full experience. I also wish that the recipes were written in a traditional manner with ingredients and quantities at the beginning. I feel like that makes for a simpler mise en place when preparing one of the recipes. All that being said, I did prepare some of the brines just for simple refrigerator pickle versions and found the recipes to be varied enough to be interesting and interesting enough to be “ a newer take” on a very traditional condiment/side dish. I think this book could definitely be a good addition to my collection!

We are a huge pickle household so I’m always looking for pickle cookbooks to gift my husband! This was adorably illustrated and would make an amazing gift for anyone who is passionate about pickles. The recipes are written so they are easy to follow and like the intro says, easy ingredients to find!

This would be a great resource and cookbook for anyone diving into making pickles for the first time or want to try out new recipes.

If you know me, you know I love pickles or basically anything that lives in vinegar. I love that this book first details the different types of picking from quick pickles to fermentation before jumping into the recipes themselves. The extra information about the pickling process and pickles themselves throughout the book is also nice.

I do wish the formatting was slightly different and it’s my only reason for rating this 4 stars instead of 5. I would have preferred a separate ingredient list somewhere on the page instead of needing to read through the recipe to spot all the ingredients, although that is made easier by the ingredients at least being presented in a bold font and underlined. I can acknowledge my dislike of the formatting is a uniquely me problem that does not affect the actual recipes themselves.

I grew up with a dad who pickled a lot of different vegetables, but I love that there’s some more unique recipes in this book. I’ll have to buy him a hard copy of this book for his birthday on it’s release date because I know he’ll love trying a lot of these recipes out.

(Pickled Green Beans are life and if you don’t agree you’re wrong!)

Thank you to NetGalley and Chronicle Books for an e-ARC in exchange for an honest review.

The highlight of this book is the cute illustrations that are bright and groovy! This has a good number of interesting and tasty sounding recipes that seem simple enough for the pickling-curious. I definitely think there is a lack of more in-depth instruction in spots. Additionally, the lack of any real photos does make the desired results harder to visualize and identify. I would recommend this book to readers who already have a vested interest in pickling or fermentation, but not as a first step. There are more in-depth and formative introductions to the craft that are worth purchasing, but this will make for some fun and quick browsing at the library!

So many things I wouldn’t have even thought to try. But as a person who is trying to start a garden & with a husband who’s always wanted to pickle everything this book just makes sense. I can’t wait to try many different pickled things!
There’s isn’t actual pictures & in my head a recipe book needs pictures but they have the cutest illustrations instead & I truly adore it!
I didn’t love that the ingredients weren’t bulleted but they’re also bolded within the instructions so it kinda works.
- Thank you a NetGalley for this ARC pickly cookbook read!

I've always been really intimidated by learning how to make pickles, kimchi, etc. etc. Seeing the adorable illustration on the front of this book finally welcomed me into the process like a soft, warm smile!

This is absolutely the kind of cookbook I want in my own kitchen. It's approachable, balanced, and accessibly informative. I can't wait to try out the cauliflower ceviche!

Thank you for writing such a wonderful pickling book! This is an easy five star. :)

I feel silly giving 5 stars to an illustrated book about pickles, but this totally exceeded my expectations!

The title is deceiving, as there are actually few pickle recipes in here, and more recipes on other foods that you can pickle too, which was a. big plus for me. In between, there were cute and colorful illustrations, as well as pages of "pickle facts" about the history of pickles and pickling-related things, which were quite interesting. I also think this book is friendly for young chefs, and plan to have my middle schooler read it and see if it inspires her to try making her own pickles too.

Thank you to the author, NetGalley, and Chronicle Books for a digit copy of this cookbook in exchange for. my honest feedback.

“But for me, pickles are the main event, a way of life.” BOY CAN I RELATE. To put it in perspective, I even named my cat Pickle, that’s how much I love pickles. 😂 I actually really like the uniqueness to this cookbook in how the typical recipe “photos” are all illustrations, and how there isn’t a separate ingredients list just to repeat it again in the recipe instructions. I will definitely be trying that pickled red onion recipe in the next few weeks because that sounds DELISH 😋

I received a copy of this eBook from netGalley for a honest review.

I enjoyed this look at pickles and how to make so very many different kinds. I would like to try quite a few of these easy to follow recipes and enjoy the pickle goodness. I liked the illustrations but I do prefer photos so I know what exactly I'm trying to achieve.

3.5 stars. I checked before requesting, and knew this was a different publisher, but from the cover and the title, I was hoping for a GN cookbook more like Let's Make Ramen!: A Comic Book Cookbook and friends. It's not, it's just a cookbook with illustrations instead of photos. The art is cute, but not a reason alone to purchase the book. It's also weird as a cookbook, in that the ingredients are listed separately, only emphasized in-text.

I'm not a pickle fan and with my autoimmune deal, fermented foods are a strict no, so I requested this only to look at it-- I enjoy a cookbook read. The recipes seem to make sense and are simple for home cooks with no canning experience. All are stable in the fridge for a period of 2-8+ weeks, so this is a good choice for pickle wannabes not yet up to canning.

eARC from NetGalley.

Im not a big fan of pickles but man this do sound like something I would give a try. It is a fun, interesting, illustrative, illuminating read

I think this is a cute little fermented cookbook, but it just does not feel practical or usable outside of a quick flip and put down. The illustrations are effortlessly adorable, but don't offer real insight or functionality to someone who is a novice to the end result.

I loved this! I loved how accessible it made pickling; I’ve always been intimated by pickling, assuming it was expensive to get into and time-consuming. This book really broke down those barriers of entry and got me pickling like there’s no tomorrow. I’ve tried two recipes so far and loved them, and look forward to trying more!

We all have different favorites when it comes to pickles. I enjoy making pickles so I was happy to be able to review an early copy of this book.

This is a fun book with 36 pickle recipes. But, not the stuff you’ll find on the condiment aisle of most supermarkets in the US. The chapters are: Sour-ish, Savory-ish, Sweet-ish, and Spicy-ish. The recipes are for small batches, that you can make and store in your refrigerator.

Brussels Sprouts are popular these days. How about Brussels Sprouts pickles. As the author states “Think of this as sauerkraut in miniature.” I’m definitely going to do the Pickled Red Onion – it’s made with only ½ an onion! It can be served immediately or stored in the fridge. The book contains not only pickled vegetables and fruits, but pickled shrimp, and cold-cured salmon, for example.

One aspect of the book that I particularly enjoyed was little pickle facts, interspersed throughout the book. For instance, do you pour your pickle juice down the drain, or have you considered using it for a vegetable flavoring, or use wherever you’d use vinegar?

This is a fun, quick book that can give you ideas on how to spice up your meals.

I am not a pickle girl, but I did really enjoy going through this book and seeing the sheer variety of foods that can be pickled. Who knew?? Also the variety of pickled foods from various cultures and countries was interesting and a great inclusion. The illustrations were adorable and I liked the art style a lot. I also enjoyed the various pickle facts (finally someone who knows about the Christmas Pickle!).

What an interesting book! If you have pickled before and want to pickle again! This is the book you need! With 4 different categories of pickles (who knew!!?!) this book has recipes for days in the kitchen.
The common pickled ideas are in there along with some special and regional examples.
Book has a good opening on the howsband whys of pickling. Along with the must knows before you start!

Loved this guide to pickling literally everything! It gives a lot of great insights on how the process works and also how to make things spicier or less spicy. I loved the illustrations but would’ve loved to see actual photos from time to time.

A really fun compendium of pickles! The recipes are complete and easy to follow. Recommended for all libraries where cookbooks are popular.

This book had a lot of great "not-your-average-pickle" recipes which I appreciated as a huge pickle lover. I liked that it encouraged you to play around with the recipes to your liking but let you know what things were important to stick to — like types of salt. My only issue was with how the recipes were formatted. Reading them was less intuitive since the ingredients were mixed into the paragraph style instructions instead of labeled separately. I think that if they were listed separately with measurements and then referenced within the paragraphs, it would have a better flow. Overall, great recipes and my issues were mostly in formatting.

I found this book easy to read. The illustrations are charming, and I enjoyed the interesting pickle facts scattered throughout. My sole critique lies in the recipe format. Typically, ingredients are listed before the directions, allowing for easy gathering of ingredients before starting the recipe. While the ingredients were well-marked, bold, and colored green, this format isn't as intuitive or user-friendly. That being said, most of the ingredients listed in the book are readily available in your typical grocery store, and I already had many of them on hand. There were only a few recipes that included some potentially harder to find ingredients.
