A cook book devoted entirely to pickled things, yes please! I recently began making my own pickles at home so this intrigued me.
I really liked the illustrations in this book. There was a good variety of recipes for all things pickled. The "pickle facts" were cute and I felt like they added a little something outside of just recipes.
The aspect that I did not really like and would probably prevent me from buying this if I had seen it in a store is that all of the recipes are in paragraph format. For me, if I am trying to actively follow a recipe while cooking, I need the recipe portion to be in bullet points otherwise it gets difficult for me to follow.

I loved this. The illustrations are adorable and the recipes sound so delicious. I cannot wait to give some of these a try!

What I enjoyed:
-The bright bold colors, branding and typography
-The length
-The abundance of recipes
What prevented a three star rating for me personally:
-The recipe layout is in essay form rather than bullets, making for a potential difficult reference during cooking
-Some of the art looked a bit rushed. One of the images simply had a brush stroke laid over it to act and mimic the look of spices I think and it made the rest of the art look odd and unappetizing
This is a good coffee table book or gift but in function I feel this would not satisfy someone getting into this hobby. It’s more decor in my opinion.
Thank you for the opportunity to leave honest feedback voluntarily. I received a free eARC of this book.

I love a good pickle and this book is so so much more than just a pickle pickle cookbook! I mean some of these recipes I had no idea you could pickle! This was a cute, quick pickle book. Adorable illustrations!

Ok, this is such a delight. My best friend is obsessed with pickles, so naturally I had to give this one a peek. My only problem is that it doesn’t come out until after her birthday, because she’s going to be obsessed with it.
First: this makes pickling sound like an easy delight. There’s so much variety in here, I want to try so many of these immediately. Who knew you could pickle cranberries?
Also, the pickle facts are adorable and informative. So much new information, and so wittily written.
The illustrator is FANTASTIC. The idea to have an artist behind each recipe instead of photos was brilliant — it made this a joy to look at without taking away from what the recipes actually were about.
Finally: quickles? Brilliant. Stealing immediately.
10/10, can’t wait to buy one for me and several for gifts.

im just as surprised as you are that im reviewing a pickle cookbook but look at it!! the illustrations by alice oehr are so cute they really make the book (how cute would they be as prints in the kitchen!) and there are multiple recipes i can't wait to try.
ive been making fridge and quick pickles for a few years now but this book has emboldened me to try new flavors and pickle. more. things!!!

thanks to Chronicle Books for this ARC via netgalley

This is a cute little book about everything you didn’t know you wanted to know about pickles. Got recipes and a lot of information about how to both cook and make pickles.

Cute illustrated cover stands out... Not a book I typically would be shopping for. I do like to pickle things though!!!
Book is full of fun, unique, random pickling ideas!! And I learned a few things as well!
The pictures do seem a little juvenile, like this would be a book I would get for my 12 year old who loves cook.

I have made the decision to give making pickles a try this summer so when I saw this book I had to give it a look. It's a great book for people with some background in pickling but for a newbie like me I found some of the recipes to be a bit over my head. Especially as some of the recipes called for items I have never heard of and would have a difficult time tracking down. I was also hoping for more recipes for typical types of pickles. One thing I really liked about this book was all of the super creative ideas packed inside. When I get some more experience and confidence I will definitely be giving this book another look!

A recipe book for all sorts of pickles, organized by sour, savory, sweet, and spicy, featuring different types of pickling from around the world.
You’ll find simple quick pickles and the classic cucumber pickles as well as salsas and chutneys and salmon and kimchi, so I think it is possible for most skill levels to find a recipe they’re comfortable trying. There’s some pickle facts sprinkled in, as well as charming illustrations of each recipe. It made me want to try some pickles after reading! One thing I would appreciate more info on was the mention of mold when pickling, as it didn’t seem to be a cause for concern but was something to watch out for, so I would’ve liked to learn more about dealing with it before trying those recipes.
Thanks to Netgalley and Chronicle Books for the eARC in exchange for an honest review!

What a delightful, quirky little book! I’m not used to cookbooks without a bulleted list of ingredients before the recipe but it works in this one. The instructions are clear and concise, the artwork is adorable, the recipes seem easy enough that anyone can make them.
I’ve started the apple chutney and I’m so excited to eat it, it smells amazing!

Such a good book! Loved how it was devised into flavor sections to organize the recipes. The fruit pickling section was interesting. I’ve seen some stuff on social media about fruit pickling but didn’t know how to go about this. Loved the illustrations! For sure will order a physical copy to use in my kitchen.
Thank you to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for my advanced digital copy!

This is such a cute book! It’s divided into flavor sections. The fruit pickling section in particular is SO interesting. I cannot wait to try the cinnamon peaches. The illustrations are so cute, so I’ll for sure be preordering a physical copy.
Thank you to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for my advanced digital copy!

Ok, I love pickles. And I really love making my own pickles. So I was really excited to pick up this book.
The illustrations? Incredibly cute. The recipes? Incredibly delicious. (At least the ones I’ve tried so far).
There are some classics (dilly beans) and some things I’d never thought about pickling (cinnamon clove pickled peaches) and everything in between. I’m excited to keep trying new pickle ideas found in this book.

I am so excited to have received an ARC of this book!
I love pickles. Dill Pickles, Pickle Chips, Fried Pickles, Pickle Juice, the list goes on and on. I'm actually kind of snobby about pickles too, unless I'm getting a pickle from a concession stand. While I have a standard I prefer in pickles, concession stand pickles are one of my guilty pleasures, since I know they are a lower quality pickle. Going over the basics of pickling at the beginning of the book got me excited for the rest of this book. I have been wanting to learn to pickle (and can) and have at least 3 cucumber plants growing in my backyard garden.
The first recipe is pickled brussels sprouts, which like pickles. I love brussels sprouts. The illustrations are cute. I'm normally a girl who loves actual pictures of the food from the recipes, but since this is a book on pickling, the doodles don't bother me. I actually think they give me the book a lot of character and are representative of how the book was written.
I'm definitely interested in the Preserved Lime Pickle. It sounds like an interesting thing to try. Some of the other recipes, like Chow Chow, I was familiar with, as this is something a lot of southern families serve. The Green Strawberry Salsa sounds amazing too, which I'm growing strawberries and tomatillos in my garden too. The Dilly Pickled Green Beans would be a really cute homemade gift with some bloody mary mix. The mixture of recipes by countries and cultures is cool too. It's not just telling you how to do something, but it's origin story. I love Kimchi and Different types of curry, so having these available within the book, really adds to my approval of the book. The pickle facts are fun too, like the "Christmas Pickle" which I was actually familiar with it.
Overall, this is a cute and unique cookbook. Definitely something that any pickled food fan would love.

I never knew there were so many different types of pickles, and so many different flavor combinations! I am very excited to try some of these out. Love the layout and the pictures are fantastic.

The illustrations are so cute! The colors really drew me in. The scalloped edges on the recipe pages also grabbed my attention.
I loved the diversity of recipes, a good mix of the classics and potential new favorites! There was a nice balance of background information, fun facts, and clear instructions within the recipes themselves.
I will definitely be trying some of these recipes out!

Thank you Chronicle Books and NetGalley for the DRC of Pickles, Illustrated! All opinions in this review are my own.
This book is so cute! Not only are the illustrations adorable, but there are so many good recipes in here too! I already pre-ordered a copy and I can't wait to get it!

This is an absolute must buy for anyone that loves all food briny and pickled! The recipes are diverse, easy to follow, and delicious! As someone who doesn’t like sweet pickles, there still were sweeter recipes that I am interested in trying.
The illustrations are also fab!
Thank you to NetGalley and Chronicle Books for an ARC!

Whether you’re displaying it proudly on your coffee table or propping it up in the kitchen as you experiment, this book just brings so much joy. The illustrations alone make it worth picking up, but it’s the combination of practical advice, creative recipes, and sheer passion that makes it truly unforgettable. If you love pickles or know someone who does, this book is a must-have.
