Remember That Day by Mary Balogh is Book 5 in the Ravenswood series. This book has a very interesting plot. Two couples that include Owen Ware and Nicholas Ware have ladies that each gentleman has a friendship with. Their relatives expect Nicholas to marry his superior officer's, the General's daughter, and Owen to marry Winifred Cunningham, portrait artist Joel Cunningham's adopted daughter. They and all of the Cunninghams plus the General and his wife and daughter wind up staying at Ravenswood, where Joel will be painting a portrait of the Dowager Duchess. The characters are mostly featured in previous books in the Ravenswood and Westcott series which makes for a very entertaining and sometimes confusing lot. It is fun to see Winnifred grown up. She is attached to Owen, and when she is introduced to his brother, Nicholas, the soldier, she is very straightforward that she does not approve of killing. They go on to have further arguments and conversations and when an attraction develops between the two, they are confused. Eventually, Winnifred and Nicholas sort out the original relationships, which were indeed just friendships, this allows them to pursue a relationship and eventually marriage. At the beginning of the novel in the Author's notes, Balogh offers a short guide to each family, it is helpful in keeping track of the various characters. This is a twisty and entertaining combination of the Ware and Westcott families and a very satisfying read. Strongly recommended.
