Looking for witches and dragons? This book has you covered. A blue haired, ice witch princess is the unknowing fated mate to a dragon shifter, who just so happens to be her assigned guard at school. What could possibly go wrong? Or right?

This book was lots of fun to read and could easily be a standalone, with lots more to explore within the world.

Alina joins the coven crest academy with a knight under orders by her grandfather, the king. The knight, Raelan, is a secret dragon shifter and her fated mate. They are forced to spend more time together....

Love the characters ... their banter is terrific. Love the romance and the spice.... Love the light-hearted romance too. The happy ending made me smile...

Thanks to the publisher for the arc.

This book delivered on all of my expectations for a cute witchy romance with a dark broody MMC. It was predictable but I was expecting that so I wasn’t disappointed. I enjoyed this.

I was really excited going into this book I mean, princess, dragon shifter, magic academy sounded really good. And I do think some parts worked wel, like the slow burn tension between Alina and Raelan. Their connection has some sweet and steamy moments. But overall, I felt the fantasy side was too light for me. The world sounded cool but wasn’t really explored much. I had a lot of questions about everything, to be honest. It’s cozy and the pacing is good. Thank you so much to the author and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book early. I’m sharing my thoughts voluntarily and with genuine appreciation

First few pages in and I knew this book wouldn't grip me as well as the summary did. I was just disappointed in the writing and lack of imagery about the scenery and the characters.

Sorry but I had to DNF this book at 32%! Felt like it was very rushed and there wasn’t much plot! I loved the concept of the book but just felt it was written more ‘young adult’ and not adult even though there was spice!

May try to re read in the future however for now, I have not finished!

I was intrigued by the premise of this but it fell very flat for me. I'm just so tired of non-YA romantasy FMC being 18 year old virgins and the fact that the MMC knew they were mates when she was 15 and was apparently picturing her while he slept with other women just really gave me the ick. It might have helped if it was established earlier that he's only 3 years older as I spent a lot of chapters just trying to figure how creepy this relationship was.

The world building was nearly non-existent and left me with a lot of questions. I'm not really sure why this was even set at an academy as none of the magic really gets explained or learned. Personally I prefer a lot more balance between the fantasy world and plot and the romance.

This was a solid 4.5 star read. I think the main characters were well thought out and had rounded character arcs. I love the tension and the forbidden romance aspect of this book. And at the end, a nice comfy cozy HEA. My only complaint is that almost all of the characters have the same names as other famous fantasy book characters which pulled me out of the world a bit.

I have been on a cozy fantasy kick lately so I was excited to jump right into this one! A Witch and Her Dragon follows Princess Alina as she travels to Coven Crest Academy to begin training her ice/snow magic. Raelan Ashvale a knight and secret dragon shifter in her Grandfathers kingdom is tasked with protecting her at Coven Crest. We find out early on that Alina is Raelan’s fated mate but Raelan, to keep Alina safe, constantly battles and keeps his dragon contained. As they begin spending more and more time together their relationship quickly changes and they have a hard time keeping away from each other. But Raelan has some concerns with his dragon hurting Alina and Alina being a princess. So this isn’t an immediate relationship. Which I enjoyed! I love a slow burn romance.

Overall I enjoyed this but wish there was some more world building. This was definitely relationship and romance focused with a side of fantasy and magic. But the pacing was good and was a great cozy read. I’m curious who will be the focus of the other books in this series so I will definitely read them!

Rating: ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Spice: 🌶🌶🌶

This was the book that got me out of my 6 months long reading slump. The story in its entirety is enjoyable. I quickly got attached to the characters and found myself smiling like a crazy lady during the happy moments and crying during the sad ones. The title is a clear reflection of the story, as it follows the lives of A witch and her Dragon through their journey of discovering their love for one another. If you are looking for a soft romantasy book with a knight in shining armour, I would 100% recommend this one.

This ARC was received by NetGalley & Victory Editing so thank you for the early release.

I was very, VERY excited to explore the knight x princess trope which is similar to the bodyguard trope. Also, I’m a sucker for fated mates and dragon shifters, too. The tension between Raelen and Alina was smoking hot. Sounds silly but I swear this book got me hooked on the knight x princess trope and I need MORE! Also, it was a dual pov so reading how Raelen was doing everything in his power to resist Alina, but still wanted to protect her just added more to the tension between the two.

I wish it explored more about the history between dragon shifters and Alina’s kingdoms. Also, I felt like certain side characters like Yuki (Alina’s familiar) were intended to be important, but kind forgotten. Because I got a little excited about Alina having a familar. And because it was a fated mate romance, I do wish it explored more of their relationship outside of them being fated mates. It felt very insta-love. But overall, it was a very sweet & cozy romantsy.

4.5 ⭐️ rounded up! Thank you, NetGalley, for the eARC of A Witch and Her Dragon! I absolutely loved this book!

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ . 5 / 5
Spice level: 🌶️🌶️🌶️ . 5 / 5 (good amount of detailed spice 😮‍💨 but there’s still plenty of story that kept me hooked aside from it)

I’ve been genuinely loving cozy romantasy novels lately and this one did not disappoint! The plot is pretty centered around the romance aspect of the book, so it had me giggling and blushing most of the time 🤭.
A Witch and Her Dragon is well-written, charming, and certainly spicy 🥵. I loved the portrayal of the characters and how each of them had their own unique personality and I hope to learn more about them in any future Coven Crest Academy novels. 🤩

**disclaimer: I received this eARC through NetGalley and am leaving this review of my own accord. All thoughts are my own.**

This was my first book of Emberly Windham, and it did not disappoint!

The story follows Princess Alina (FMC), a witch with frozen magic who would like to harness her magic abilities. She applies to Coven Crest Academy and is accepted. However, her grandfather, king, grants her permission only on the condition that Realan, a royal knight, accompanies her as her bodyguard (or as Alina calls it, her babysitter). Since Alina is the first female royal witch to attend the academy, she unwillingly accepts the condition.

Raelan (MMC) is a loyal royal knight who is deeply grateful to the king, especially for providing home for him and his family, accepts the assignment, even though he carries secrets that no one, especially Alina, can know.

The book had spice and tension between the main characters, but I struggled to connect with them. FMC is very young, and the depiction of her fist real intimate “action” wasn’t particularly appealing to me.

The book is easy and enjoyable read, with cozy and feel-good vibe with dual PoV. However, I wish there was more detail about the magic system, the academy, world-building general and about spirit companions! Do they speak out, or can only their owners hear them? What creates the bond between owner and companionship? How does it work? So many questions without answers, and I hope future books of the series provide more insight, as I’m personally a huge fan of magical creatures 😊

Overall, I had great time reading the book. It’s quick, light-hearted story with a happy ending, making it a great palate cleanser after heavier romance fantasy books. If you’re fan of cozy romance fantasy book with dragon shifters this is book for you!

Thank you NetGalley and Emberly Windham for this book for review. All opinions are my own

I wanted to kick Raelan! And kick him hard! Claim your woman already man, you're killing me!
I devoured this story like a lusty dragon inhaling the scent of his mate! From start to finish in about 4 hours, could not put it down!

I was completely enthralled with this book! I could not put it down. The writing was superb, but he story was interesting. I completely recommend this book if you like witches, magic, dragons, kings, etc. I cannot wait for the next book in the series!

Raelan, he poor guy. He's a good guy! Stuck with honor and duty and caring for his own family. Debts come in many forms, he's got both to the king. The King gives them housing and a good life, a job, and raised him to be a good knight. Then keeps his secret an toes more debt onto him.

I like that the book points out the difference in station between them. Which is a big issue for the Knight who has everything to lose.

It's set in a magic school, but there isn't a lot of time spent in the classrooms or the magic system. So, if you're worried about it being school heavy.

The beginning of the book is so lighthearted and inner turmoil based it feels like a low energy read until you get into it and see what's happening.

A fun read, for the fall since it seems more cozy than a hot summer book.

Perfect for readers who like a little more romance than fantasy. Not for those who are more fantasy readers. I think the premise was great, who doesn’t love a magical school? I just felt the execution fell a little flat for me. I was hoping for more of a fantasy first story and this just didn’t deliver for me. I was also very put off that he was obsessed with her from the beginning (yes I I understand that they’ve known of each other for longer) but just the forced proximity when he’s already obsessed just doesn’t work for me.

I’m very thankful to have gotten an early release version of this book.

This enchanting fantasy romance delivers a satisfying mix of cozy magic, royal intrigue, and slow-burning tension. The setup of a magical academy combined with a frosty heroine and a fiercely loyal dragon shifter makes for an irresistible pairing. Alina is determined, clever, and more than capable of standing on her own, which makes her forced partnership with Raelan all the more fun to watch unfold. His internal struggle between duty and desire adds emotional depth to their growing bond, creating a dynamic that’s both swoony and high stakes.

As secrets unravel and danger creeps closer, the story picks up intensity without ever losing its heart. The world of Coven Crest is vividly drawn, full of magical traditions, hidden agendas, and a touch of royal drama. The romance walks a fine line between sweet and steamy, with just enough spice to keep things interesting while staying grounded in the emotional journey of the characters. With themes of trust, destiny, and self-discovery, this is a captivating start to a magical new series that leaves you eager to return for more.

After finishing the book I felt satisfied and overjoyed with the ending the characters were given. The plot was very engaging, I was glue to my chair never wanting to put down the book when I had too. The story line kept me hooked. I very much enjoyed the writing style of the writer, I got a very descriptive picture of the setting and what was happening in the scenes without over describing. I loved the characters Raelan and Alina. I felt that I really connected with them.

Dragons and witches at a magical academy? Yes please.

This book was such an enjoyable read. The pacing was quick and the story was an easy read. There was just the right amount of chemistry between Alina and Raelan to make me interested right from the beginning. Their relationship definitely made the book fit the “cozy romance” genre.

The world development of this book was also pretty good. I enjoyed the use of magic in the story, but I do wish the familiars were more involved. The magical academy setting was lovely and I’m looking forward to returning to it with future books in this series.

Thank you to NetGalley and Emberly Wyndham for the ARC opportunity. I definitely recommend this book!
