I had no idea this author had 30 books in this beloved series featuring attorney Andy Carpenter and stumbled upon the prequel releasing on July 1st.
The Paterson, New Jersey setting appealed to me as I lived in a neighboring town for a few years. The author gets it right! In the opening chapters I couldn’t help but think of this as a mashup between The Art of Racing in the Rain and The Lincoln Lawyer with a much more pedestrian setting. Given the length of the series it is completely understandable that the set up chapters were quite detailed, but the dog lover in me wanted more from the canine section right away.
Light courtroom drama kept me reading, but not to the extent that I am now interested in reading more in the series. It was a fine, enjoyable and well written novel and the narration by Grover Gardner was top notch. Many thanks to Macmillan Audio, St. Martin’s Press and Net Galley for the early copy in exchange for my honest review.

Continue to enjoy the stories and narrator. He is the perfect voice for Andy. It might be fun to hear this in a graphic audio as well.
There is a fun amount of dry whit that keeps the characters interesting.
I loved getting the background info on Andy and the start of his relationships

I will start by saying that this is one of my favorite series of ALL TIME, like top 3!! If you know me, you know that is a very bold statement!
I will admit that I was a little nervous/disappointed when stated in the beginning oh the book, this book will not be in chronological order with the series. I just didn't know what to expect.
Well like always, Rosenfelt hit it out the park. I loved Tara's backstory and hearing how Andy's practice and friendships began.
After 31 books in the series, I really have no idea what to say in a review of it. It is fun and clever but the cases can be hard hitting. You will laugh out loud at Andy and crew and their situations. Rosenfelt writes in such a way that you will think you are part of the story. I also think I enjoy this series so much because Andy reminds me so much of my husband.
I know not everyone enjoys audiobooks; however, Grover Gardener brings this series to life and is the embodiment of Andy Carpenter.
If you have never read this series, you can start with this soon to be release and be perfectly fine. Honestly, each book reads very well as a stand alone, but you will miss the relationship building so if that is important to you, start from the beginning.
The only con I can say about this book is that Andy is a Mets fan. Go Braves!!

Another fun David Rosenfelt, Andy Carpenter mystery. Great job, as usual by Grover Gardner as narrator. Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.

This is my first book by this author, even though I'm a big mystery fan. What took me so long? Andy Carpenter used to be a prosecutor and he's just started his career on defense. He is having marriage troubles and is finally adopting a pet -- and hilariously, the pet is friends with another dog whose owner is in jail awaiting trial, so he takes on the trial so he doesn't have to separate the dogs.
I love mysteries, I love dogs, and I love snark, so this was definitely a lot of fun. As an attorney, I also enjoyed his more or less realistic depiction of the trial process.
This was a short and engaging audiobook and it had my attention the whole time. I'm excited that I have a new author with a large back catalog to read.
