The Lady Needs A Rogue is the second book in Tara Kingston’s A Rogue of Her Own series, and it’s an absolute treat.
The romance is swoony, the banter is sharp, and there’s a nice dose of mystery woven in to keep things exciting. The heroine is clever and determined, and the rogue is exactly the kind of charming trouble you want in a historical romance.
A fast-paced, feel-good read that delivers both heart and adventure. I’m already looking forward to the next book in the series!

This book was a bit of a drag. An heiress trying to escape marrying into a title and her brothers friend acting as her body guard are the MMCs of this book. Add some mystery, romance and lots and lots and lots of dialogue and you get an hea.

This was at best okay.

This story follows heiress Macie Mason, a spirited photographer who has masterfully avoided every fortune hunter her father throws her way—until her brother enlists his friend, the roguish Finn Caldwell, to act as her reluctant bodyguard in his absence. What begins as a charade to deter suitors soon ignites into a real passion, complicated by lurking danger and Finn’s growing protectiveness. The novel’s secondary plot, involving a mysterious threat tied to Macie’s family, adds intrigue, though some readers may find the pacing uneven, with the middle sections leaning heavily on dialogue over action.

While the romance itself is engaging, the pacing dragged in some places. And Finn’s Scottish brogue, basically consisting of the use of “ye,” felt a bit overdone. Despite these quibbles, the book is a light, spicy read.

I read this and a bunch of other historicals back to back, so unfortunately this one did not really stick out to me, it just blurred with the rest I have read recently.

This is my first time reading Tara Kingston and this book was a great introduction. Macie and Finn are strong independent characters individually and together they have their moments of butting heads but both are mature and know exactly what they want. And it’s a beautiful thing when they discover it’s each other. Of course the road to the HEA is never a smooth or straight one and Ms Kingston adds a couple of dead bodies with a dangerous mystery mixed in to bring forth the protective nature of our hero. Easy book to read with just enough spice to keep it moving.

Finn is the perfect foil for Macie's determination to chart her course. At her brother's insistence, Finn is entrusted with keeping Macie safe as her bodyguard, which is no hardship as far as Finn is concerned, however, Macie does not plan on ever being dependent on him. The plot to this novel is good, and if the book were some 150 pages shorter, it would have been more enjoyable, as the verbiage detracts from the purpose to some extent, resulting in the reader losing the plot and trying to make sense of the dialogue. Nevertheless, the novel comes to an exciting conclusion, and Finn and Macie find their way together. I received a copy of this book as a gift through Dragonblade Publishing and NetGalley, and this is my honest and voluntary review.

I really liked Macie, an heiress trying not to be caught in the parson's trap. She wields spilled drinks and shenanigans like a saber with precision. She wields her camera with such joy and focus.
Finn Caldwell is intrigued by Macie, his friends younger sister. She catches his eye, his attention and all his focus. He's her match, her equal and he will protect her.
Recommend.

Macia has sidestepped every fortune hunter around. That is until Finn is brought into the picture to protect her. She's independent, clever, strong and just acking for some fun. Finn has his hands more than full trying to keep up and complete another assignment as well. I loved the chemistry between the two. There is underlying humor along with some suspense and mystery. Excellent tale from a talented author.

This is a very amusing historical romance with fabulous characters. It's nice to step away from the "ton" for a hero worthy of the name. Our head-strong, and talented heroine is straining at the leash her brother has put on her.
I definitely enjoyed this story. There was mystery and danger to add to the interest. I could easily understand the heroine's fascination with the new art of photography.
Great fun.

This book was wonderful! The Lady Needs a Rogue will keep your attention from the moment you begin the journey with Macie and Finn until the very end! This is the second novel to the series A Rogue of Her Own. Macie will do anything to avoid fortune hunting fops, from devising schemes and scandals that send them running. Finn, Macie's brother friend is tasked with trying to keep Macie out of trouble while Macie's brother is out of town. Finn finds out that's no easy task. Tera Kingstone has written a suspenseful story, filled it with characters that come off the pages and pull you into their tale, steamy passion, a story that is well-written and a plott full of mystery. It's a suspenseful rollercoaster ride with tension-building twist and turns as Macie and Finn try to figure out who the villain that is threatening Macie.

This book was heartfelt. I think we all have experienced a man unable to communicate his love…LOL This book definitely reminded me of the beginning of my own relationship with my husband!

This was my first book by Tara Kingston. I liked both of the mmcs. Macie wanted to forge her own path in a time when you pretty much had to be tied to a man. She was very independent and she was going to do it her way, or no way at all. Finn was very protective, sweet and caring.

The pacing dragged a bit. There was too much dialog-too much talking about doing something, rather than actually doing it. The couple's intimate scene even had too much conversation, if that's even possible.

The second book in the series & it’s easily read on its own. I enjoyed the book but it was more of a stroll than a sprint. I liked both Finn & Macie & found their journey to a HEA entertaining. I normally devour a book in a sitting or two but it took me a week to finish this book, I found it easy to put down, read something else & then go back to it. It was well written but far mor dialogue than action

DNF at 60% - this book was slooooow. At the 60% mark only one significant thing has happened. Most of the book is just repetitive internal monologues. I can’t do it. I don’t think the photographer FMC has managed to take a single photograph, that’s how little happens.

Bo-ring!

This book was such a drag. They talk sooooo much and do so little. Everyone in this books loves yapping. They just sat around and yapped and then realized they were in love already and then the murderer popped up and confessed.


Also, the only Scottish English word used was “ye” and it was used every single time someone from Scotland opened their mouth. I can’t decide if this is prejudice or not. It’s as though the author thought “take British English, add a bunch of ye and bam now it’s Scottish”

I love a good historical romance with a tiny murder mystery but this one was just done SO poorly dear god.

A romantic charade that turns into so much more for Mary and Finn. Two of my favourite tropes in brother's best friend and bodyguard. I enjoyed the story, great dialogue and connection with mystery, danger and unexpected love.

Thank you NetGalley. Macie inherited the mansion her grandfather owned. She wants to bring it back to the way it was but her brother thinks she should just tear it down. She does photography, not the usual kind but but with light and shadows. Her brother has to be gone and has asked his friend to watch over her. Her father is trying to marry her off. Finn has loved her but thinks he is not good enough. They are getting along fine but there are men dying after wanting her grandfather's papers. There seems to be a little mystery in with the love story.

This was a wonderful story with fun characters. I enjoyed the underlying sense of humor that runs through it.
