This book was intense to start and the premise was interesting. I haven’t read anything like it.

Pearl is dealing with the loss of her mother, as a museum curator her life is full and successful. She wades through the process of grief from losing her mother Sally and sifting through her life when a letter is given to her that uncovers dark secrets of the past. Sending the tension through the roof and her life in a spiral.

With past and present timelines being told and multiple POVs of experiences it was a confusing story to stick with. I enjoyed the suspense and drama and definitely the unknown narrators connection to the main story.

This book was just not for me. Although I did enjoy the dive into learning about a museum curator.

Thank you NetGalley for this arc.

This was an OK read. The story didn’t make sense at times, and the sudden jump of POVs were so confusing. I would like to know what happens to the body during that timeline jump???

Title: The Lie She Wears
Author: Elle Marr
Genre: Thriller
Release Date: November 2025
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Summary: In The Lie She Wears by Elle Marr Pearl has always struggled in her relationship with her mother, Sally. This struggle only intensifies when Sally dies in an accident. Not only is Pearl left to deal with the death of her mother, but she also now has to figure out if the letters Sally left her to find are true confessions or delusions from her ongoing cognitive decline. Pearl must dig into the past and find the truth, or she could be in danger.

I enjoyed this book from beginning to end. It was a fun, easy, fast read that had me thinking of all the conspiracies. I was Charlie Day in Always Sunny tacking my notes and strings all over the cork board, trying to figure out what was going to happen next. I felt empathy for Pearl as she navigated hard emotions and difficult turns while also admiring her duty to her family in finding out the truth.

The book was told in multiple POVs, which I always enjoy more. I feel like it helps you get a fuller picture of the story. In the case of this book, it was used well, and I never felt like a chapter was wasted or unwarranted. Each character felt like they gave purpose to the plot, even the one who isn’t identified until later in the book.

Overall, I rate this book four stars. I enjoyed the twists and the web of misdirection the author created. I felt satisfied with the final revelations in the book and felt that everything tied together well. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves a good mystery or as a beach companion for a fast summer read.

Thank you to the author and publisher for gifting me a copy of this book for an honest review.

I absolutely tore through Your Dark Secrets last summer (and all her other books), so I immediately requested an ARC of Elle Marr's newest novel The Lie She Wears as soon as I saw it on NetGalley. I love Elle's writing style and the strong female protagonists she creates. Once again, Marlee delivers the perfect psychological thriller, complete with a body buried in the garden, old family secrets, and a few unexpected twists and turns. I was hooked from the very beginning and flew through The Lie She Wears -- a must read for 2025!!

Museum curator pearl has just lost her mother. After her unexpected death, she discovers a letter from her, confessing to murder.

Pearl isn’t sure if her mother is telling the truth or if this a consequence of her cognitive decline. But as she begins to try and uncover the truth, pearls life takes a dangerous turn.

The story unfolds through multiple perspectives—including mysterious characters whose identities and relevance slowly come into focus

Full of twists and turns, this book kept me on the edge of my seat. A gripping fast paced thriller that will keep you guessing until the end!

I can’t wait to read more from this author!

After her mother's unexpected death, Pearl discovers a shocking letter confessing to murder. As she digs deeper, she uncovers human remains and cryptic notes, forcing her to confront her mother's dark secrets and putting her own life in danger.

I liked the story and the plot; however, the execution was below the mark. It didn’t keep me hooked as much as I would like a psychological thriller to keep me hooked. I didn’t feel anything at all. (Other than that, one night while I was reading at 3 am, my bed lights started fluttering—they were out of batteries)There were a few moments when I gasped and didn’t see the twist coming; other than that, the book fails to deliver what it promises.

Overall, a basic for beginners who are new to this genre, if you are an avid reader, then you won’t enjoy it as much.

Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review! Really appreciate it.

This book had a lot of twists and turns and overall was an enjoyable read! It’s a slow burn psychological thriller centered around a family drama and told in dual timelines. Definitely a book I would recommend for mystery lovers!

Elle Marr’s "The Lie She Wears" is a twisty, slow-burn psychological thriller that dives deep into dark family secrets and long-buried trauma. The story follows Pearl Davis, a museum curator who inherits more than she bargained for after her emotionally distant mother, Sally, dies—and leaves behind a letter confessing to murder. Pearl is skeptical at first, thinking her mom was losing touch with reality, but when human remains show up in the garden, denial quickly turns to fear.

What follows is a chilling unraveling of Sally’s past through a series of cryptic notes and disturbing discoveries. Pearl, with help from a friend, starts digging (literally and figuratively) into her mother’s life and learns that Sally might’ve been hiding far more than just one body. The deeper Pearl goes, the more she realizes that these secrets didn’t die with her mother—and that she might be next.

Marr does a great job of balancing suspense with emotional depth. Pearl is a strong but vulnerable lead, and her complicated relationship with her mother adds weight to the mystery. The story builds slowly, but the payoff is worth it, especially as the final pieces come together in a genuinely tense climax.

If you like psychological thrillers with creepy twists, family drama, and a strong female lead, The Lie She Wears is a solid pick. It’s moody, mysterious, and just the right amount of unsettling.

This book was a little slow at first and confusing a bit as they jump from storylines. Otherwise I did enjoy it and the story. I usually am good at predicting who the killer is and this one stumped me! A good book.

Elle Marr delivers a gripping psychological thriller that hooks you from the first page and keeps the tension high throughout. The Lie She Wears explores themes of identity, secrets, and trust, all woven into a dark and twisty narrative with layered characters and a moody, atmospheric setting. Marr’s writing is sharp and immersive, making it easy to get lost in the story. Perfect for fans of suspense with emotional depth and unexpected turns.

After many silent gasps and late nights later, this slow-burn, psychological thriller had me on the edge of my seat!

This book is for the readers who love messy family dynamics, complex accounts of grief and a plot so deep it has you digging into every possible theory you can muster. The use of multiple POVs had my eyes glued to the pages, analyzing and piecing together as much of the puzzle that I could. This book is paced really well and sprinkled with just the right amount of clues to keep you engaged and guessing.

I really enjoyed this work by Elle Marr and will be recommending it as much as possible. Thank you so much to Thomas & Mercer for this ARC!

⭐3.25 stars⭐

The Lie She Wears had a solid premise, but the story didn’t fully captivate me.
I was expecting more tension and suspense from a psychological thriller.
It was a decent read. It just didn’t quite leave a lasting impression for me.

I always really enjoy Ellie Marr books and “The Lies She Wears” was no exception.

The writing was excellent. I loved the multiple POV, especially because it tied together and felt complete at the end. The characters were multi-layered. The twists I didn’t see coming and the ending was solid.

Overall, another winner from Ellie Marr.

Thank you to NetGalley and Thomas & Mercer for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.

What a ride!
The story is told in dual timelines.
Pearl, Sally's daughter, is going through things after her mother has passed away. She finds letters from Sally that include some words written in code, and they lead her to some disturbing finds on their property. Meanwhile, some very odd things begin happening, beginning with the disappearance of an ancient Chinese artifact that goes missing at the museum where she works, an air tag hidden on her vehicle tracking her, and the feeling that someone is following her for reasons unknown.
Meanwhile, a character's story begins in a previous timeline. The reader doesn't figure out who it is until much later in the book.
There were so many twists and turns in this book. It was slightly confusing at first, but once the author revealed who's story was being told in the earlier timeline, everything came together. I absolutely did not see the ending coming. That, to me, is a great psychological thriller.

I was initially intrigued by the book description being a fan of thrillers and murder mystery books. It was a bit slow to get going and the multiple POVs and jumping between story lines took some getting used to and was a bit hard to track. However, the plot had me hooked and with each new clue and hint I wanted to keep reading to find out more. The ending was satisfying and tied everything together nicely. This was my first Elle Marr book but won’t be my last

Thanks to NetGalley and Thomas & Mercer for the ARC.
