I appreciate the opportunity to read this title, but unfortunately it didn’t quite capture my interest. While the premise was promising, I found it difficult to stay engaged. That said, I’m sure it will find its audience with readers who connect more strongly with the writing style or pacing.

This book more than surprised me. This fantastic world that Nevaeh Ryn has created had me under its spell from the very first pages. And guys, I'm really desperate that I've already finished the book and it's only the first part!!! I'm a very impatient person and the fact that I now have to wait no idea how long for the sequel... how am I supposed to stand it!!! So, a little warning already: it's not a standalone book; the plot is not completed in it.

The book is about 20-something Kamika, who returns to the small town of Gaville for her grandmother's funeral. She has no idea what world she is entering and how everything will change for her. Her ex-girlfriend Larissa is now married to Jack and has two children. This gives Kamika a huge sting, after all it was her first great love. A short time later, she meets the attractive and mysterious Beau and the pretty Delaney, Larissa's cousin. She feels attracted to both of them, but they both have secrets. Will Kamika get to the bottom of them?

The book was really good! A world full of vampires, werewolves, demons and witches. Maybe other creatures too, who knows? In any case, I was thrilled by the depth that this story conveyed. Even after the ending, I'm very sure there's still a lot I don't know. A mysterious novel with great characters who were totally perceptive. It was the numerous secrets that made the story so exciting. The fact that Kamika was drawn into all the events also meant that I couldn't put the book down. It wasn't just Kamika who wormed her way into my heart, but also Larissa and Delaney. I also really liked the self-irony. Just the fact that Twilight was mentioned really made me smile. As well as getting to know this world, there was also a subplot, which was also good. I also liked the writing, which made it so easy to imagine everything. Be it the setting, the creatures, the powers or the romantic situations. There were also some steamy scenes and these promise much more to come in the second book!!!

A mystical, "mesmerizing" novel with lots of love, attraction, chemistry, butterflies, an interesting plot and endless secrets to discover. I enjoyed it very much. My heart definitely beats for the werewolves!!!

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for providing me an ARC.

3.5 ⭐ rounded up

I very much enjoyed my time reading this book. I kept debating between giving it 3.5 or 4 stars. Just a fair warning: this book cannot be read as a standalone; the main character’s story is only just beginning in this book. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves a nice yearning romance with a bisexual main character!

One of the reasons I did not rate this book 4 stars is because it is very much a beginning book, which is completely a personal preference. Personally, I love when the first book in a series can be read by itself. A positive is that this book does not end on a cliffhanger, which I very much appreciated. Secondly, there are a lot of descriptions in this book—which I typically love—but at some points I did get slightly bored with how the descriptions were written; sometimes they felt as though they were interrupting the story instead of adding to it. I did get bored in general a couple of times while reading this, but that could be a personal preference since I tend to like medium-paced books that have plenty happening. Overall, I still really enjoyed the story even if I was bored a couple of times and will pick up the next book because I’m excited to see what happens next!

The characters are well written; I really enjoyed Delaney and Beau’s characters, specifically. The romances in this book are amazing. I was living for the dates the main character went on. There is yearning and I loved it; I can’t wait to read about more dates and who gets chosen eventually.

There is a plot aside from the romance, and I do like how the plot is going. At first I was a bit bored with the plot—along with a couple more times throughout this book—but towards the end I was really enticed and craving to read more.

This book completely captivated me with its beautifully layered storytelling and rich, atmospheric setting. Kamika’s journey through grief, love, and self-discovery is both poignant and deeply relatable. The way the author weaves themes of loss, family secrets, and unexpected romance is masterful, making every page feel alive with emotion and mystery. The tension between past and present relationships is beautifully handled, never feeling forced but rather unfolding in a way that feels true to Kamika’s journey. The romance is tender, raw, and tinged with a sense of hope even amidst the pain of loss. I loved how the setting of Gaville almost feels like a character itself, brimming with secrets and memories. The writing is evocative, and the characters stay with you long after the final page. It is undoubtedly a gem of a read
