Review of Sins of Survivors: A Carter Brothers Novel by Blair Underwood & Joe McClean

Blair Underwood’s debut novel—co-written with filmmaker Joe McClean—delivers a gritty and emotionally resonant saga rooted in 1930s Detroit’s Black Bottom. This historical crime thriller pits family loyalty and legacy against systemic oppression and violence.

Sins of Survivors* is a gripping, emotionally rich tale of survival, power, and legacy in America’s 1930s Black urban landscape. Underwood and McClean deliver a noir-tinged thriller rooted in historical truth and familial complexity. Though challenging in its breadth and structure, it rewards attentive readers with depth, resonance, and moral tension.

LOVED THIS! Reminiscent of Don Winslow's Danny Ryan trilogy. I could not stop listening/reading to this. I hope that there will be more from the Carter Brothers.
Specifically, as to the narration, Blair Underwood is fantastic.

I only have two little negatives particular to the audio -- I found the musical interlude at the beginning of each chapter to be somewhat disruptive to the listening flow. Second, there are times when the chapters jump time lines without any spoken/written indication and it takes a bit to figure out where you are as a reader. But these in no way detract from my love for this book and audio.
