REVENGE truly is BEST. served COLD is my title for all of my reviews.
I really enjoyed this story even though I knew there was going to be so uncomfortable, unjust treatment of this Jewish family specially the girls. But I really liked their mother, Regina to start with. She has quite the history which I found quite believable considering some of the accounts that I have read of Jewish survivors. She was wise, loving, now cautious but also ALWAYS trying to stand up for her daughters.
I liked her son, Louis, he was hardworking, clever and could only do so much to protect his sisters. He had helped raise them when he was young and they were even younger. He had been wise as he took opportunities to better his and their lives.
The beginning chapter had me thinking of some books I have read by Fern Michaels that had to do with the Sisterhood series. Also the title was had me stop and pick the book up because I was hoping it would be good. I wasn't disappointed ! Don't get me wrong. It's different but I liked that. It takes a while for the girls, now women, to get their wrongs being righted but how they do is so delicious !
Josie (Josephine) is the oldest. Then there is Rose and the youngest sister Dorothy are going to go through some stuff both good and bad.
I really liked the people who helped them along the way especially Rollie, (Mr. Dubois) the director of Vista del Mar Children's Home aka the Jewish Orphanage. If this was a movie, which it should be, he would get an award for best supporting actor !

I loved the ingenious ways the girls change their lives to succeed and the opportunities that come their way. University High is a stirring pot of antisemitism among the students AND the Teachers. Even the principle, Mr. O'Neill could do little to enforce fairness for his Jewish students although he tried. But he was often overruled by entitled people. Making him a good supporting character in this story.
Everything does come out in the wash though over time. And I liked how at the end there is a final overview of justice served and what the girls hoped to do next.

P.S. there is a short, helpful Glossary in the front of this book.
I read this book thru Netgalley and am so glad that I did !

I did not finish this book, despite being drawn to the life and plight of the daughters of Jewish immigrants who had fled Poland from pogroms in the late nineteenth or early twentieth century; my own Jewish grandparents came to the United States under similar circumstances.

The story was moderately engaging. Regina, the eldest daughter, wins a full scholarship to USC after winning a math contest, only to have most of it ripped away when the two other girls competing in the same contest accuse her, falsely, of cheating. Here antisemitism rears its ugly head. And the after effects, with Regina being badmouthed by political and hate-filled gossip, throughout Los Angeles. Obviously, people can be very mean spirited.

Despite this setback, Regina sets out to find employment, to be rebuffed at every turn as soon as any potential employer or school hears her name. So, she changes it, vowing, with her sisters, to seek vengeance.

At about the halfway point, this zeal for vengeance, coupled with an extremely bad writing style, were enough for me. I know others liked the book. Just not for me.

I received this book as an ARC from the publisher via NetGalley.

Revenge of the Sisters: A Tale of Retribution is written in a third-person POV that is common of the genre.

This is the story of Regina as a single mom of four in California, after moving from Chicago. She loses her daughters due to lack of resources and lack of support. We get to follow the three daughters. They end up in a school together where they can advance through their skills and talents, each unique. Each facing their own hindrances.

I enjoyed getting to watch Dorothy, Josephine, and Rose all find their own successes and revenge. These reads are always emotional and hard for me, but they are a change to my usual romance reads and sometimes the change of pace is just what I need.
