For those unaware, this is written by Silas House whose work I always enjoy. Kentuckians tend to take immense pride in their people and our commonwealth as a whole, so it’s always a pleasure to read his work especially when it’s set in the state. He mentioned in the story one of my favorite places which is just a few minutes from home (a rural monastery) and that was a nice little gem.
Dead Man Blues takes readers through a double murder investigation in the ‘50s, but really the heart of the story, in my assessment, is the deputy’s journey after betrayal and public humiliation. Dave is a likable guy, and it was easy to root for him on a personal and professional level.
As Mr. House answered a reader online, it’s more cozy than grisly but there are murders, crime scenes, and active pursuits, so you’ll still get your fix of that. I appreciated the aspect of the story revolving around the issue of eminent domain and how it has and can affect families and landscapes.
