A cute and funny book to help children understand how AI works. SUitable for children ages 6 - 9. Thank you Evaluation Gap Press and Netgalley for the complimentary copy in exchange for my honest feedback

*Zoe and Zephy: Her AI Helper in the Home* by Shahid Hussain is a lighthearted and sweet story that follows a young girl named Zoe, who has an AI assistant named Zephy in her home. Zoe is curious about her AI helper, and through conversations with her family and her own explorations, she learns that AI assistants are not people. They do not have bodies or feelings, but they are always ready to assist with tasks.
While the story is charming, I can't help but find the need for this book a bit baffling. It feels like a strange reality when children need guidance on how to interact with AI home companions. It's a sign of how quickly technology is evolving and how much it has become integrated into daily life. That being said, the book offers a helpful and easy-to-understand approach for young readers to learn about AI in a safe and accessible way.
I would rate this book 3 out of 5 stars. It’s a cute and informative read, though I feel it's more of a reflection of our changing times than a necessity. I received an advanced reader copy from NetGalley and Evaluation Gap Press.
