The second installation of "No Sam!" finds our doggy (or human, depending on your perspective) hero trying to thwart the evil plans of supercat Mr. Whiskers, as well as protect his family from the chainsaw maniac, and a friend that may be a vampire? The book setup of text with graphic novel-esque cartoon panes makes for a fun transitional read for kids who have an affinity for graphic-only reading. Sam is a sweet and relatable stand-in for kids trying to make sense of the crazy adult world. Overall, and enjoyable book I'll certainly recommend.

Sam is back protecting his family. This time he has another 4-legged friend Meow to share language with. This is such a fun book and that makes you laugh and appreciate our four legged companions that much more. My students are anxiously awaiting this next book.

This was a great follow up to Drew Daywalt's first book, They Call Me No Sam! Readers who haven't read the first book will still find the sequel easy to follow. Sam, a pug who thinks he is a human, reflects on how he taught the cat Mr. Whiskers, aka Meow, how to talk. He reflects on some of his other feats from the first book, and in this book, he learns from the "news" (movies) how to diffuse a bomb and how to defeat a vampire. If you've read Bunnicula, you'll have a good idea of some of the antics he gets into with that one.

The chapters are short, written diary-style, with illustrations sprinkled throughout. It's a bit of a graphic novel hybrid, great for 2nd-3rd grade readers. I thought this book was great and I will be purchasing it for my son, along with the first book.

I recommend this book for schools and libraries.

I laughed so much reading the adventures of Sam, the dog who's trying way too hard to protect his family (he keeps thinking there are bombs when there aren't) and Meow, the cat who learned to talk after language lessons. What happens when your loving pets have ulterior motives? This was so cute.
