The story was a little confusing at first, but once you just let it go it became a very powerful story. I reread it to catch everything and feel like with each reread you see more and more of the smaller details that add to the story. I loved the footnotes, the use of color, and how powerful it was.

Witchcraft by Sole Otero presents a unique experience that is both intriguing and unconventional. The art style is definitely on the weird side, which may not be for everyone, but I found it to be playful and inventive. It adds a quirky charm to the story, making it stand out from typical graphic novels. While the narrative had its moments of brilliance, it sometimes felt disjointed, leaving me wanting a bit more cohesion. Overall, it’s a fun read if you’re open to an unusual artistic approach and enjoy a blend of whimsy with your witchcraft!

I received a partial ARC from NetGalley. I only received the first 100 pages but the atmosphere is spooky and mysterious enough that I'm interested in more. Who are the sisters? Are they good or bad? Will the main character be reunited with her family? The line artwork lends itself to the mystery and folklore creating great artistic moments with fire and magic.

Without knowing the last 2/3 of the book is difficult to say who to recommend to but I'll definitely finish it when it comes out.

I really like the art style of this graphic novel. The Storyline was really interesting but the end felt really cut off, which felt rushed. And the aspects with the Indian mythology combined with the witch aspect is really cool . In total its a good graphic novel

Well that was an interesting story. Spanish sister witches who look over a small town are then persecuted when a town leader pulls his daughter from their care and she soon dies. All of this is set during the time of a plague.

I liked the art style, but the story felt really short and cut off. I would have liked a little more explanation on the sisters and why they so quickly went towards sacrificing children (at least that is how it seemed it was going) and why they killed off the MC instead of talking her away from running off.

Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for my eARC.

I have not been this engaged by a graphic novel for some time. I love the historical setting and it immediately made me research more about the time period. The art style was so so gorgeous but still conveyed the dark and gloomy setting so well. Will definitely be getting the rest of this one when I get the chance I’m eager to see how it all ends!

I enjoyed this read for the most part since I have an avid love of witchcraft and the supernatural. However, I don't know if it's due to the art style. but I couldn't really get a grasp on the characters. I would have loved to see more life and expressions on them, but, in the end, that just didn't happen to me. The story itself is very thought-provoking and jarring, which is great for a horror read, but I simply kept getting pulled out of the book as the story progressed. I can see how this read may still appeal to others who love witchcraft and don't really mind the art style.

Thank you for the advanced copy. I was invested in the story, but was not a fan of the artwork. I look forward to reading the full story when it comes out in October.

I was a little confused by this one, especially with the beginning. It was pretty dark and very suspenseful but I don't think I would recommend it.

Very confused at this one...felt like the story was going somewhere but then it didn't actually? I mean the ending felt abrupt and disconnected a bit. I loved the art which is a bummer I would have loved to see a bit more about the witches and the main woman too and their magic- everything was quite superficial. Also I really wanted to root for the witches....

I thought the art was fantastic and the premise unique in this eerie and mysterious graphic novel. I would have loved even more expansion on the cultures and magics at play here. The ending was intense and dramatic, but also felt abrupt in that I would've liked to know more of what happens next.

I want to live inside this book. It's such an immersive and incredible story, the world truly slipped away in reading it.

I felt a bit conflicted while reading this... since I was only given the first 100 pages I can't give a fully fleshed out review.

I don't know if I like the portrayal of witches so far. As the first part at least, is told from the perspective of Ailín, the witches don't necessarily seem "good". They are clearly not "evil", but so far I'm not sure if it's witch-positive or witch-negative. I'm hoping that later on in the book we learn more about them.

Despite that, I absolutely love the art! The colors and pencil-y texture are gorgeous! And I love the way the artist draws people!

I did enjoy reading what I got of this and am very interested to see what happens next, once the book is published!

Witchcraft presents interesting elements, but it is a pity that not all the content is available. I am not able to offer an adequate review of incomplete material.
Thanks to NetGalley and publisher for this advanced reader's copy.

.....uh alright I guess
I was really thinking this was going to be pro-witch the whole time so the plot twist felt just for shock value

RA-
-I read the limited ARC English translation for this thanks to NetGalley and I'm not entirely sure how the book ends
-YA+ audience
-A woman is sent to work in the home of three sisters as their housekeeper and helps with the delivery of babies while hiding her own. She maintains her connection to her Indian mythology while the sisters practice witchcraft.
-Art style is very sketchbook renderings set among a very limited color palette that belays the intensity of the story.
-TW: miscarriage, death after pregnancy, attempted sexual assault, nudity

*I only received part of the book as a preview.
Witchcraft is another tale from Sole Otero that I just devoured. The book feels mysterious, with some dark humor, and seems explores how women are treated by society. Are they powerful because they create life? Do they know more about nature and illness and the world beyond? Are they human, or are they witches?
