The introduction for the newest edition of this book makes everything make a bit more sense as to why this book was written in the way it was. It still was very jarring going from following John Perry’s story in Old Man’s War to a completely different set of characters (except for Jane Sagan).
That being said I enjoyed where the plot took us and how things wrapped up in this book, bringing us back to John at the very end. There was either less humor or the humor didn’t land in this book, yet I am intrigued to move forward in the series as I think due to the way this book was published/written led to it being an outlier in the series.
