Another great read by Susan Mallory.
Not sure why I waited so long to read this series but after years of then being on my shelf I decided to break them out and am so glad I did.

Ya just need a good love story once in a while.
Susan does not disappoint!

I requested this book years ago, and am no longer interested in reading. Thank you for the opportunity.

Kiss Me by Susan Mallery

I read this because it's Fool's Gold and I've really liked other books in this series, but Kiss Me doesn't have the same feeling that the other books do. Phoebe seems very childish and immature. I felt like I was reading about a high schooler, which is fine, but not what I was wanting going into an adult romance. I didn't like Zane and I didn't like some of the things he said about Phoebe to justify his feelings for her (she's not like the girls he usually dates--divorced, etc.). That seemed like a jab directed at divorced people. They are just as worthy of love. I didn't like that this book takes place over the course of a week. I just could not get myself to believe a romance that happens that quickly. It added to the high school feel of the story. This was a flop for me.

LOVE! Every time I pick up a book by author Susan Mallery I know I'm going to love the story/plot and of course the writing. This book, Kiss Me, wasn't the exception. I loved this story and couldn't get enough of the characters. I need to know what happened after the end!

Review: Whenever I want a pick me up, I like to fall back on some of my favorite longtime running series. Fool’s Gold by Susan Mallery is one of those series. Yes, the small California town is probably too idyllic and the folks that live there are just too perfect, but each and every story that I’ve read in the series tugs at my heartstrings and just makes me want to live in that little piece of heaven.

You’d think with Kiss Me being the 17th book in the series that maybe some of the magic of the series would start to fade. And perhaps it’s because I read them sporadically, but every time I pick up one of these books, it’s like coming home and visiting old friends. And Kiss Me is no different.

Zane’s lived his whole life on a ranch on the outskirts of Fool’s Gold. He’s raising his younger brother who has gotten himself into a little trouble and now Zane is committed to hosting a touristy cattle drive. Then there’s Phoebe. She’s best friends with Zane’s step-sister and is a born and bred city girl. She’s having work issues and decides to visit Fool’s Gold. These two are opposites on the surface, but ultimately they had a lot more in common than expected.

I loved the interactions between Zane and Phoebe. They’re drawn to each other, but aren’t sure what to make of it. Zane has the world on his shoulders and Phoebe just wants to follow her instincts and help him. The whole backdrop of the cattle drive just enhanced the growing relationship between the two and offered plenty of laughs and tears.

There was also a varied cast of characters from all of those folks participating on the cattle drive. There was the vegetarian couple and a couple of elderly ladies (who make regular appearances in the series) who provided some comic relief. And then there was a couple who accompanied a pair of kids from the foster system who made me keep a box of tissues handy.

Kiss Me took me on a wild ride and I couldn’t put the book down. When I read a Fool’s Gold book, I always wonder why I was away so long. After reading this installment, I’m planning on going back and reading some of the previous books that I missed. The series can be read out of order, I’ve done so, but as with most long running series, there are always reoccurring characters that pop up and the books are only enhanced if you’ve read the series in order. All in all, I’d highly recommend this book and series to fans of small town romances.
