I truly enjoyed this story and following Blaze and her journey through the trials for the crown. The world building was detailed and I could visualize the story happening. Kudos to Lauryn Hamilton Murray for that. I'm looking forward to the next installment and what's up next for our protagonist and her peers.

If you like a story with elemental gifts, trials, forbidden love, and twists. You love this, as did I. The FMC starts off as a grieving underdog and then turns into a badass and I love that. The narration was really good too. I like the accents for the characters.

Would give this book a 3.5 stars there were some points I wanted to DNF because it felt too similar from other reads, but there was enough originality to it it kept me going. Good introduction book to YA fantasy.

Look this isn’t doing anything new but it’s still a ton of fun and a solid YA fantasy. The narration was a perfect fit for the tone and characters.

Read if you want easy digestible fantasy with just enough high-stakes without a ton of heavy lifting.

This will be my narration review specifically. The e-arc will have a full review of the story and plot.

I absolutely loved the narration of this book. The narrator's tone and cadence was perfect and she embodied the FMC very well. I was able to speed up and slow down the narration without the quality being distorted or jarring in any way. The narrator kept me engaged and her narration felt like acting versus reading which is what I look for in my audio narrators. I will be looking for future books with this narrator.

𝗛𝗘𝗜𝗥 𝗢𝗙 𝗦𝗧𝗢𝗥𝗠𝗦 by Lauryn Hamilton Murray is a sweeping, high-stakes YA romantasy that sweeps you into a world where magic isn’t just power — it’s the price of the throne. Blaze is a Rain Singer born into a family of fire-wielders, and her catastrophic birth left her haunted and hidden. Years later, she’s forced back into the spotlight to compete for a crown she never wanted — and for magic she no longer trusts. Blaze’s journey is one of self-discovery and defiance. She’s flawed, hesitant, yet fiercely determined to define herself beyond the world’s fears. The palace intrigue crackles with secrets and sabotage, and the elemental magic system feels vivid and beautifully imagined. The twin dynamics with Flint add warmth, while the romantic entanglements create delicious tension without overshadowing Blaze’s quest for identity and strength. Although some parts slow down, the finale delivers an intense punch, setting the stage for more political twists and magical revelations.

🎙️ I listened to the audiobook, and Isis Hainsworth delivered a solid narration that captured Blaze’s inner turmoil and strength beautifully.

Heir of Storms follows Blaze, a girl with elemental magic, as she navigates a deadly tournament for the throne. The story itself reminded me of many others I'd read before, particularly Red Queen, and the writing felt a little too blunt and on the nose for my liking. Still, I had a fun time with this book. I definitely wouldn't say that this is the most groundbreaking novel, but it was a good time nonetheless. If you liked Red Queen, you will probably enjoy Heir of Storms, as they are low key the same story. Still, sometimes that's what you want. A nostalgic, enjoyable, easy read.

Thank you NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for this ARC Copy!

This story was so much fun, fast paced, and absolutely sank its claws into me and stole sleep from me because I did not want to stop listening at all. It was nostalgic in a sense that it reminded me of the fantasy that I used to read and does not follow the exact formula that current fantasy/romantasy typically follows. The world building was so unique and engaging. The author did a great job of showing vs telling, I really enjoyed this and cannot wait for the next installment in the series.

I love the magic! Elemental power is one of my personal favorites and add in a morally grey character (fox) this hit! I am so pleased with the plot and love triangle AND cliffhanger. This will be so popular and I cannot wait to hear more opinions and hype on booktok in the future.

Blaze was born to a family that wielded flame, but shortly after her birth, a storm began, and until her mother brought her into it, it raged and killed. Blaze was not like her family, but instead is the last storm wielder. Hated throughout the land, Blaze is kept hidden away until her birthday, when a large celebration is thrown for her and her twin. Shortly after an eclipse signals it is time to compete for who will take the 4 crowns and support the new emperor. But unlike her brother, Blaze has never trained with her gifts, and she thinks they are gone. When she is chosen to compete, she must get in touch with her gifts.

This is a stunning beginning to a series with a ton of potential. I look forward to seeing where Lauryn Hamilton Murray will take it from here.

This is young adult, and there is no real spice. the world-building was rather slow and came together more as the book progressed.

The audio is excellent and helps the reader get a rather Irish set to the book. I love the narrator and could listen to her all day!

Thank you to Macmillan Audio, Macmillan Young Listeners, and Net Galley for the ALC. All opinions are my own.

For fans of:
- the Red Queen
- Powerless

"Heir of Storms" is about what you would expect from a YA about a young girl with unexpected supernatural gifts caught in a deadly tournament. It hits all the familiar plot points and has all of the tried and true tropes: prince and his half brother with whom he has tension, an ailing king, meddlesome emperors, trials and tribulations (literally), a ragtag group of pals, an overpowered FMC who feels like an outsider and has heart of gold, etc. Its pretty well written and the characters are likable. The plot is good enough to hold attention, but nothing groundbreaking.

I think if this was my introduction into the YA tournament genre, I would have loved this book. However, this is not my first rodeo so I found it a bit tired and predictable, formulaic really. The best part about this book was the audio narrator who had the most gorgeous voice of all time. It was so soothing and lovely, that it was enough to keep me paying attention.

Rating: 500 stars!

Hunger Games-like tournament mixed with Divergent classes mixed with Harry Potter-level magical abilities? I am absolutely obsessed with this series already. The character names that tie in to their houses they are born into and their magical abilities is everything. Our main character is born into a roaring storm. She becomes known as the Storm Weaver, aka the girl that brought on the storm/flood of a lifetime. Her community turns their back on her until she catches the eye of the next in line King. She faces magical trials, betrayal, and her own rebirth into who she was always meant to be. Having an ARC did me no good because I immediately purchased a physical copy for my shelf once it was released because I needed this beautiful trophy to share with others!

This brought back such a familiar fantasy feeling as Red Queen. If you like books with elemental powers mixed with a great plot this is a great book!

Well this book was a really good time! I was lucky enough to receive an audio arc for Heir of storms and to start I will say i thoroughly enjoyed the narrator and felt she did a great job at bringing the book to life.

Blaze was a fantastic character and I loved Hal and Fox. It's fast paced with plenty of exciting trials. I won't spoil anything about the characters but be prepared that what you think will be a run of the mill fantasy romance will not be! I was hooked and I don't know what i will do now as i wait for the sequel!

Review Title: A Stormy, Spellbinding Start to a New YA Romantasy Trilogy

Review:
Heir of Storms sweeps you into a lush empire where magic is fierce, love is forbidden, and power must be earned. Blaze is a compelling heroine with a dangerous past and a future full of fire. The magical competition, slow-burn romance, and courtly intrigue kept me hooked from beginning to end. With rich world-building and high stakes, this is a must-read for fans of elemental magic, deadly games, and heroines forging their own destiny.

Thank you NetGalley & Macmillan Audio for the ALC 🎧

This was a great YA fantasy read & beautifully narrated in the Audiobook. I was invested in Blaze's journey and learning about her power. The trials were interesting and a great concept to have elemental rulers making up a council from the most powerful heirs.

I'm looking forward to continuing Blaze's story & learning what is true and what's a lie. Hopefully we see her grow into her power and it becomes second nature to her. While some of her fear from using her power dissipated from the training, I think she has some growth to do until she steps into her full power which will be exciting.

P.S. I squealed during the hedge garden scene

Heir of Storms is an intriguing new YA Fantasy. I loved the world building and character development and that romance took a backseat for this young heroine. The audiobook performance hooked me immediately and kept me.

This was a goood YA book! It’s got the formula to be the book of the summer. Fast-paced, strong romance and enjoyable plot!

The audiobook narrator did a great job and grabbing my attention throughout.

I was sucked into the story almost immediately, the world building is thought out and put together very well.
Were reading about or MC as she enters tournaments to compete for the status of ruler.

We’re watching as she experiences turbulence, enemies, treats, power training, and romance whilst struggling with her power and identity at times.

I felt like some parts were very cliche and predictable, there’s training scenes that just screamed fourth wing x divergent time.

I loved the banter and growth between characters, especially the romantic interest.

Despite feeling too familiar with the story as it’s really nothing original (sorry!) that can work in its favour, I think anyone can enjoy this as a new or experienced YA romantasy reader. Tropes are executed well and still feel fresh.

4 ⭐ thank you Netgalley for an eArc
Now time to wait for book

This is your run of the mill YA fantasy romance. If that is your kind of read then Heir of Storms is the pick for you. It’s a fairly fast paced, trial based fantasy book where the main protagonist has powers that haven’t been seen in a LONG time. This makes her special (and feared).

What I will say for this book? I LOVE that the love triangle did not love triangle the way it usually would in a YA book. For about 80% of the book, I was worried that we would have two brothers pitted against each other. I love the little twist that happened at the end.

I’ll probably pick up the next book when it comes out. I hope this series can continue to build and surprise me.

To start, I will say that I enjoyed this book and I do appreciate what the author attempts to do within it. The world is lush and the history detailed — I enjoyed the lore and magic of it all. It felt very well driven by plot. There’s depth and decent writing as well for a debut!

My only sticking point is that there are some areas where this feels like it romanticizes slavery. In our current world, we are understanding this is a topic that needs utmost care and consideration when including, even in a fantasy book, particularly around the romance. Attraction to an enslaver has been widely criticized, especially of late. I do hope the author, editor, and publisher keep this in mind as the series progresses.

I enjoyed the audiobook. I think there was enough various voice sounds that it worked nicely. The production was decently done! I do rec it as an audiobook.

Overall, a good read but some notes for moving forward with the next books. Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for an advance copy in exchange for my honest review.
