If your family game nights have fallen into a rut, "Family Face-Off" is the book you need to instantly inject a dose of fun and friendly competition. Devon Glenn has compiled a wildly creative collection of over 150 games that are perfect for getting everyone—from little kids to grandparents—off their screens and into the action. Nearly every game uses common household items you might already have, like cups, cookies, candy canes, and masking tape. There's no need for expensive board games or complicated setups. The games are categorized so you can find the perfect activity based on the space you have, the energy level of the group, and the ages involved. While a few more diagrams would have been helpful for the more complex setups, the instructions are clear, concise, and funny. The inclusion of scorekeeping pages at the back is a brilliant idea for groups who want to turn their gathering into a full-blown tournament.

Thank you to the publishers and NetGalley for the opportunity to review a temporary digital ARC in exchange for an unbiased review.

This is a great book to have at the ready for any family or group gathering. Several of the games I've seen on social media but haven't ever seen the rules, so it was really nice to be able to see those finally! There's action games, drawing games, chill games, and super competitive games all in this book!

This is an incredible book that will leave to hundreds of core memories for families of all ages!

Family Face-Off is a collection of games and activities that families can do together without a screen. Activities range from physical challenges, to artistic, show-offs, and strategic games. There's really something for everyone!

One of our favorite games was the flour tower. We played with a five year old, so it was very easy for her to catch on to the rules of the game, and then giggle all the way through it.

Every single activities is a winner, and every family member will cherish this book for years to come!

This was an idea I hadn’t seen before, and it had lots of cute games inside. I also really liked that it sorted the games at the front not only by theme, but also by how involved you wanted to be, which is also a great way to include grandparents or family members with differing abilities.

Some games weren’t new, but some were very clever, and I think it’s a fun idea.

Family Face-off is a great resource to have on hand at home, school, camp, library, or anywhere you need or want to entertain away from screens that are super fun. With over 150+ games and activities, there is sure to be something for everyone. My kids and I have already tried a few of the games here and can’t wait to try more. Some of our favorites so far are Stingray Snatch, Candy Pong, Sitting Skee-ball, and Cotton Ball Penalty Kicks. I appreciate there being a supply list and detailed instructions that are easy to follow.

This is a great addition to every bookshelf. I’ve done some of the games at family gatherings, work functions, and with students (I’m an educator).
I love the scorecard pages at back. Very helpful!

The layout was very easy to follow and understand. The snarky instructions and comments had me laughing so hard!

As the author, Devon Glenn, explains this book is inspired by the creativity and imagination of people who took to social media during the COVID-19 pandemic. There they shared games that could be played with very little effort while everyone was stuck at home. Family Face-Off has every type of game you could need to make a group happy from carnival games to food fights. Most need no props at all; while those that do, use simple and easy to make props. You can use the games in this book to host a game night or a weekend of "olympics" as each game is customizable and variations are included.

If you're looking for fresh game ideas to play with your family, friends, or other groups, pick up a copy of Family Face-Off to find exactly what you need!

A Playful, Practical Gem 🎲📘
I really enjoyed the variety of games, activities, and facilitation styles in this book. It offers something for every group and setting, and what makes it even better is that many of the activities require very minimal materials (a huge plus).

The structure of the book is also a win: the clear instructions, thoughtful categorisation, and colour-coded sections make it easy to navigate.
I especially appreciated the visuals that were included. They really helped bring the activities to life. I just wish every game had some kind of visual or diagram to match, as that would’ve made tracking and implementing them even smoother.

Overall, a fun and practical collection in a well-designed package.

As someone who doesn’t come from a big family but loves games, flipping through this was such a treat. I found myself smiling at the creative and chaotic energy behind so many of these challenges, it made me excited for the future when my husband and I (hopefully) have little ones of our own to play with. 🥰

This book is packed with fun, quirky, and wildly entertaining game ideas perfect for families of all sizes. I couldn’t help but laugh thinking how perfect this would’ve been to break up the monotony of being stuck at home during COVID—definitely would’ve saved a few arguments and brought a lot more laughs. 😆

Even just browsing the pages was inspiring, and I can totally see this becoming a go-to for holiday gatherings, reunions, or cozy nights in. Whether you’re competitive or just in it for the laughs, there’s something in here for everyone. 🏆🎯

# A Game-Changer for Family Gatherings! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

**Family Face-Off by Devon Glenn** has completely transformed our family get-togethers, and I can’t recommend it highly enough!

As someone who regularly hosts gatherings with my own kids plus my 8 grown siblings and all their children, I know firsthand how challenging it can be to find activities that engage everyone from toddlers to grandparents. Our reunions have always been wonderfully chaotic affairs, but this book gave us the perfect structure to channel all that energy into pure, concentrated fun.

The games in this collection are absolutely brilliant. Devon Glenn clearly understands family dynamics and has crafted activities that bring out everyone’s competitive spirit while keeping things light-hearted and inclusive. The instructions are clear and easy to follow, even when you’re trying to explain rules over the excited chatter of a couple dozen family members.

**Candy Cane Scoop** alone was worth the price of admission! Watching my dignified older brother and my teenage nephew both crawling around trying to scoop up items with candy canes tied to their waists had us all in stitches. It’s the kind of ridiculous, joy-filled chaos that creates those precious family memories we’ll be laughing about for years to come.

What I love most about this book is how it strikes the perfect balance between organized fun and spontaneous silliness. These aren’t overly complicated games that require tons of setup or expensive materials – they’re cleverly designed activities that use everyday items to create extraordinary entertainment.

If you’re looking to add some fresh energy to your family gatherings, whether it’s holidays, reunions, or just a regular weekend hangout, **Family Face-Off** is an absolute must-have. It’s turned our already rowdy family nights into legendary events that everyone looks forward to.

Trust me, your family will thank you for this one!

**Highly recommended for families of all sizes and ages!**

Fun games to play with family and friends, summer camp groups, or with library programs. I did wish more of the games had drawings for set-up. I’m a very visual person, so I struggled to fully understand the text descriptions a lot of the time.

I love that this has games for all ages and mobility levels. We are a huge family game night family and love that we can now get creative with our game nights. We have played a few of the games before but there is so many new ones to try and with summer coming the outdoor games will be fun.

As a certified family life educator (CFLE), this is truly a fantastic resource.

The book breaks down a variety of activities that are age appropriate, engaging, interesting, and geared toward social and emotional growth.

I especially liked the animal Olympics and the ways you could have a lot of fun with that. Fortunately, unfortunately is a favorite of mine and a great way to teach cause and affect, opposites, and learning about pros and cons in a fun way.

This book definitely helps engaging as a family take center stage and provides creative ideas for parents that aren’t Chili and Bandit Bluey! Excellent!

150 ways to best my relatives? SAY NO MORE. I am always on the lookout for new ways to assert my dominance, and this book delivered.

I appreciated the thoughtful organization, offering a variety of game types, including some that cleverly use only items commonly found at holiday gatherings. How convenient! These games can be played anywhere, even in the car. Some require simple supplies (most of which you’ll already have at home), while others demand nothing more than your wits and competitive drive.

I also loved that the book includes games designed with accessibility in mind—for folks with mobility concerns or, like me, those who simply prefer not to move. Perfect for all ages and all fitness levels.

This would make a great gift—for yourself or for that one family member you’re always low-key competing with. Lay down the gauntlet early.

Also, can I just say? My knowledge of the height of a giraffe lying down has finally paid off.

Thank you to NetGalley and Chronicle Books for the privilege of receiving this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
