this was SO GOOD. and when I say "so good" I mean it needs to be on everyone's TBR.
first of all I've always loved a good camp story....but Annie outdid herself when she wrote these characters, this plot, this world....it's EVERYTHING

3.75⭐️
In this story we follow Rebecca a girl whose parents were killed by vampires which made her become a vampire hunter so one day she would be able to avenge them, but first she’ll have to go undercover to a vampire university and find the Book of Blood and Roses but when she arrives she realizes she’ll have to share a room with Aliz Astra heir to one of the most powerful vampire family’s and when one moonlight Aliz rescues her from a vampire attack she accidentally makes Rebecca her familiar which means that now they’ll have to work together to find a solution.
I mean vampire hunter x vampire? I was sold but it didn’t reach my expectations though I still enjoyed it. It took me a while to warm up to Rebecca and her relationship with Aliz, at the beginning I wasn’t particularly invested in their relationship and I thought it was developing to quickly but I ended up liking them just enough.
Another thing I didn’t really like was how everything seemed to add up to Rebecca finding the book taking into account that it contained all the methods to kill vampires you would think that vampires would be more reclutant to a human finding it but who knows.
Other than that this was a rather enjoyable read and once it picks up you aren’t able to put it down. Also now I have the need to read more vampire books.
Thanks to NetGalley, the publisher and the author for this ARC

A sapphic vampire romance with slow-burn chemistry, blood-soaked secrets, and a cursed bond you’ll root for.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for an eARC copy to review !
I went into this book knowing close to nothing and loved absolutely every second of it.
Give me dark academia vibes and I’m done for. On top of that we get a sapphic romance between a vampire hunter and the heir to a very important vampire family. So we get AN AMAZINGLY WRITTEN sapphic enemies to lovers.
Rebecca, the vampire hunter, is sent on an undercover mission by Callisto to a vampire university.
She is supposed to uncover secrets and bring back a book supposedly containing remedies and ways to k!ll vampires.
But, she ends up in the same room as Aliz Astra, the heir to the oldest vampire family, who also happens to be Callisto’s biggest enemy, fun, isn’t it ?
Things evolve, we get betrayals, discoveries, plot twists and plenty of secrets. And surprise surprise she falls in love with the vampire heiress.
I was giggling and laughing for most of the book. It wasn’t the most perfectly written book I’ve ever read but I still enjoyed it a lot and the vibes were immaculate.

Absolutely LOVED this ARC. Vampires, an academy, and a lost book - right up my street! I loved every minute of reading this book, and I was so, so sad when I got to the end. I already can't wait for the second instalment set in this amazingly magical world!

3/5 stars
I got accepted to read the arc of this book. Thank you NetGalley
I absolutely loved the story like but was hard to get into first as there was barely any dialogue and got confused what was going on in the first chapters. After that the story got better and I absolutely loved it.

The Book of Blood and Roses is a moody, magnetic blend of dark academia, vampire lore, and queer romance that absolutely sinks its teeth into you. Annie Summerlee brings a fresh, sapphic perspective to a genre often saturated with the same tropes—and while she doesn’t completely avoid them, she reworks them with enough heart and tension to make them feel new again.
The story centers on Rebecca Charity, a fierce, grieving vampire hunter who infiltrates a university where humans and vampires coexist, determined to find a legendary book and destroy the creatures responsible for her parents’ deaths. But of course, nothing goes to plan—especially not when her assigned roommate is the alluring vampire princess, Aliz Astra.
Their relationship is the true heart of the novel. The enemies-to-lovers dynamic is slow-burn perfection, full of suspicion, banter, reluctant trust, and sizzling chemistry. Summerlee takes time to build emotional depth between them, and it pays off—especially when they become accidentally magically bound. The tension is real, and not just the romantic kind; there’s a constant undercurrent of danger, secrets, and moral ambiguity that keeps the stakes high.
The setting—a misty university tucked away in the Scottish Highlands—is atmospheric and gothic, a perfect backdrop for a tale full of blood, betrayal, and buried magic. The writing is accessible yet evocative, and while the pacing drags slightly in the middle, the payoff in the last quarter is well worth the wait.
My only real critique is that the worldbuilding, while intriguing, could’ve gone deeper. There’s so much potential in the politics of vampire-human relations and the lore of the Book itself, and at times I wished the plot would slow down just enough to explore those ideas further.
Still, this is a strong debut that feels like the beginning of something much bigger. If you're a fan of romantic tension with teeth, complicated female leads, and gothic vibes with a modern twist, The Book of Blood and Roses deserves a spot on your shelf.

Justo lo que necesitaba.
Gracias NetGalley por el ARC.

I loved this book so much! I was immediately pulled into the story with an unexpected twist and the story kept me invested throughout the whole book.
The enemies to lovers setting, vampire x vampire hunter, was delicious and well executed. I have to warn you though, this was not slow burn! But the tension, the push and pull, was still really good and did not fall flat.
The plot was filled with small twists that kept it interesting and me on the edge of my seat. As the story progressed, the twists got better and better and I quickly noticed the story was not going where I thought it would, and I just LOVE when a book does that to me. I was OBSESSED in the end.

A moody, sapphic paranormal fantasy filled with romance, intrigue, and danger. Vampire hunter Rebecca Charity goes undercover at a Scottish university but soon finds herself bound to her alluring vampire roommate, Aliz Astra. The gothic atmosphere, slow-burn romance, and twists make for an engaging read. A great pick for fans of dark academia and supernatural tension.

Sorry posted feedback on the wrong book, I will get to this book closer to release date. I am so sorry.

First off thank you Netgalley, Annie Summerlee and publishers for granting me the arc to enjoy!
This book was my first sapphic story. And it was a lively introduction to the sapphic world.
This is definitely a dark academic read which is something I loved in high school. And it brought me back to those days. I absolutely wish I had this book back then!! I did enjoy it a lot as an adult but I know I would have absolutely obsessed over it as a YA reader. (My tastes have evolved a little over the years)
In light of that this book in my current state fell just a little flat at times. I found it hard to get from plot point a to plot point b. There was a lot of world building and it was absolutely stunning!!
The story while beautifully written moved a little too slow for my current personal taste which is why I dropped it down a star. I did love the writing and the twists and even the characters. I’ve shared posts on this book while reading it on my bookstagram because it is worth the hype.
Enemies to lovers will always be one of my favorite tropes and I like that the roles felt more reversed in this story than most. Will probably read again and leave fresh reviews once it is out in the world officially <3 and I also look forward to the second book

Overall: 4 stars
The Book of Blood and Roses is a sapphic vampire romantasy set in a college for vampires and humans alike.
The college has altruistic goals of integrating humans along with vampires. Regardless, our FMC, Rebecca is a jaded vampire hunter looking to avenge the deaths of her parents. She is sent to the college to infiltrate and find its most hidden secret - the Book of Blood and Roses - a book rumored to have all the different methods to kill a vampire.
Obviously not all goes according to plan. Rebecca’s plan goes sideways when she meets the gorgeous vampire heiress, Aliz. There are lots of unpredictable but satisfying twists along the way.
Tropes:
✅ Vampire x Vampire Hunter
✅ Academia
✅ Secret Societies
✅ Vampire lore
Pros:
I loved how vampiric lore becomes an integral part of the story. Everything from garlic, to vampires becoming bats, and vampires not showing in mirrors is here.
Cons:
I do wish our vampire was more of a morally gray asshole. (Yes, I have a type and they’re usually very toxic). But instead our vampire is a vegan cinnamon roll. The roles are reversed here and instead we have a killer human and a damsel vampire. It’s an interesting twist to the usual scary vampire story.
Overall this is a great sapphic vampire romantasy! I recommend this for those wanting a fast-paced, YA Romantasy.
Thank you to NetGalley, Del Rey, and Annie Summerlee for the eARC. All thoughts are my own.

You will do anything to find out the truth. Rebecca knows that she can’t stop until she finds out who killed her parents. Her new assignment isn’t what she was expecting she has been enrolled into a vampire academy. She knows that she has to be careful around all the vampires as she has rare blood and she is a vampire hunter.
But nothing goes to plan as she becomes involved in a blood contract with her vampire roommate.
Aliz never wanted to get involved with a human but she finds out that can’t keep away from her roommate. She knows that she needs to find a way to break the contract before it is too late.
But there is only one way to break the blood contract and that means killing a vampire Rebecca has no problem doing that but she can’t force Aliz to do that but she might have no choice.
But will she be forgiven once the truth comes out about all the lies? Is there a future for this vampire & vampire hunter?
A good interesting read. Good characters that add to the storyline. I hope to see more from the other characters in book 2.
Thank you Netgalley & the publisher for the copy. This is my voluntary review.

If you enjoy romantic fantasy with morally grey characters, hidden societies, vampire politics, and a sapphic love story at its heart, this one's for you. It's a hauntingly beautiful read that balances emotion, intrigue, and dark magic in just the right measure-without relying on a frustrating cliffhanger. Highly recommended.

Firstly would like to thank Netgalley and the author Annie Summerlee and the publishers for allowing me to read this arc.
Rebecca was recruited by Callisto an organisation who kill Vampires. She is sent on a mission to find The book of blood and roses in exchange for information on who killed her parents.
Rebecca is a skilled hunter, but she has to appear weaker if she wants to complete her mission, unfortunately something happens to her that throws everything off balance, this book was really compelling (no pun intended). It has all the right elements of a vampire book, and as you read further along the unexpected twists and turns makes you want to continue reading it. I look forward to this book being published as I will definitely pick up a copy.
4.5 stars unfortunately they don’t do half stars
Will submit review on TikTok tomorrow (15th June)

The Book of Blood and Roses invites the reader to a dark academia setting, heavier on the dark than the academia, with vampires and vampire hunters as the characters on stage. A hunter on a personal quest for revenge meets the heiress of an old, established vampire family and this is where the story unfolds.
I think this book could have been for me, if the stakes had been a little different (pun … intended), this felt all a little too much on the shallow side of things for me, but considering it is a rather short book, the characters are in their very early twenties, I think I might just not be the intended audience. Maybe this book is more for the young-ish adults, than for the dark, eerie lovers of literature.
It is quite well written, there is no hurdle to get into the story and the pacing is rather consistent throughout the whole book, however, I missed the feeling of truly being afraid for the characters. The overarching mission was laced with opponents that kept changing, maybe evolving, but for me failed to instill this feeling of urgency and fear.
At some points I would have wished for more depth in the described situations, especially in confrontations of main character and love interest, but it is a good, entertaining book nonetheless.
If you enjoy a vampire setting in a school, with WLW romance and medium to fast pacing, this book might be for you!

This wasn't what I was expecting but I enjoyed it. Go into this book knowing it reads like YA.
This story is about a vampire hunter who accidentally becomes a vampires familiar. There's secret societies, romance, hidden mysteries, sapphic vampires.
I'm definitely excited to see how the next book finishes their story.

I really enjoyed this book! The world building and setting was beautiful. The FMC Rebecca was easy to like and her character development was strong through out the book. Once the plot twists started - they didn’t stop! Will definitely read book 2!

I really liked this book! At first there were some parts that were hard to read, but as I kept going I realized how into it a was. I loved how Aliz’s and Rebecca’s relationship developed and the little details that made their relationship unique. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I liked the book and definitely and going to look and see the authors other books!
