I really wanted to love this but I just couldn’t. It ended up being a DNF for me. I’ve always heard good things about Mariana Enriquez, and the premise of this book seemed interesting. However, this was not enjoyable to read. After her first chapter, I thought this would be more poignant or thought-provoking, but that first chapter ended up being an anomaly. I found it to be very flat and dry, and I often found my mind drifting. Definitely a let down.

I wanted to love this book so much. I really enjoy reading about cemeteries and the various ways our dead is handled. Unfortunately this author's style of writing is pure stream of consciousness. It felt like they didn't even stop to take a breath, and it just didn't work for my brain.
Thank you for the opportunity to read this, and I hope it reaches the people that will love it.

Love seeing Latina authors in the occult writing niche. Travel with Mariana to famous cemeteries around the world. There is this peace in the stillness and an appreciation in the quiet to tell these stories. Each segment of the travel guide is delivered with beautiful descriptions and a photograph that captures the area being presented. You will be given glimpses into her life as she explains the relevance of these cemetery stories that should not remain buried.
The beauty in death and story telling is weaved into this travel collection beautifully. We even get a glimpse of future travels in her epilogue. There are always places to visit that are waiting to haunt you with their voices. Take your time reading through this beautifully descriptive guide. Thank you Netgalley for this advanced copy.

I've never read anything from this author before so I had no idea what to expect when I picked up this book. All I knew was the it had a cool cover and an intriguing premise.
As a child I used to play in cemeteries a lot, so the idea of a book about cemeteries very much appealed to me.
This book was a collection of essays about cemeteries, but it was also a memoir as well as one big love letter to cemeteries. It was definitely one of the most interesting meoir concepts I've ever encountered.
This was such an interesting read, I would recommend it to anyone that has a soft spot for cemeteries or who like memoirs that are out of the box.
