I was so excited when I saw this book!!! I have not read anything by this author yet but after this....I definitely will be! I hated every single one of these "mean girls"....the most unlikable characters but it made the book so much harder to put down because you kept thinking "what's gonna happen next?!!?" The suspense throughout was great and i enjoyed the plot twists. I'm part of a book club and we all decided when this is released...we're gonna choose it for our monthly pick. I really enjoyed this one and definitely will look for more by this author!

The Deadly Book Club is a smart, twisty thriller. What really sets this novel apart is the layered storytelling. On the surface it is a murder mystery, but beneath the mystery lies a story about friendship (sort of- maybe frenemies is a better word) and rivalry. Each of the book influencers stands out- but I was mostly drawn to Jessie and her story. No spoilers. Fast paced, this is one book club you’ll be glad to join—as a reader. Thank you to Crooked Lane, NetGalley, and the author (whose books I adore) for the ARC.

2.5 stars rounded to 3. These characters were unlikeable, and not in a fun, messy way. I kind of cared how the story would end, but only kind of. There was one good twist but most of these characters had unredeemable storylines

Twists and turns who do you trust imperfect characters brought together by books what a fun read can any of them be redeemed should they have a happy ending and will the killer return

This book I could not put down loved it from beginning to end. I would highly recommend!! This isn't like something ie read before.

Life styles of the rich and famous. What happens when someone dies during a book club meeting of the elite. Everyone has secrets. Threats made but who killed their friend. Was it the childhood bestie, the friend who needed money, the friend who assumed betrayal, the friend she betrayed, or the friend who’s been lying to everyone.

The bookers. Five book influencers who meet up digitally for book club meetings. On one of those meetings, the screen goes black and suddenly they can hear screaming. Who is it? As the story goes on it turns out that every booker has a secret, is any of them worth killing for?
I was so excited seeing a book about reader, as I am one myself. This book is really fast paced and it is always something going on. Every character is slightly unlikeable, in my opinion some more than others. I couldn’t put this one down!
I rated this book 3.75 stars.

Five popular book influencers run an exclusive virtual book club—until one of them is murdered during a live meeting. As secrets, jealousy, and accusations surface, the remaining members race to uncover the killer before anyone else is targeted. This was a so so for me, it didn't give me all I was hoping it would. Do I wish I hadn't read it no. It was honestly just a bit to all over and to many characters to follow. The ending is what had me, it was good and worth it for sure!

I was excited to start this book, but it was all over the place. The characters were hard to keep track of.
The plot is predictable and the characters lack depth.
It is however, perfect for a relaxing afternoon, but not for those seeking twists or emotional complexity.
So if you’re looking for a quick easy read this is for you.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an advanced copy for an honest review.

Quick read great for summer. To be honest, I finished the book this morning, and a lot of the story hasn’t really stuck with me. But I know I had fun reading it. I do know the hook of the online book club was a great twist on the mystery/thriller genre.

A fun and easy beach read thriller. This story centers around a group of 5 popular book influencers who call themselves The Bookers. During one of their virtual bookclub calls, the screen freezes and someone ends up dead.
Through multiple POVs, The Bookers all find themselves on the gorgeous island of Kauai and blaming each other. The story itself is interesting, but it’s a far cry from Butler’s 2023 thriller, Someone Else’s Life. That one was more of a genius psychological thriller - whereas this was more of a fluffy Lifetime Movie script. Deadly is full of clunky exposition, run on sentences, and awkward dialogue. The ending falling into much of the same.
With that said, the character development was well done. Unsavory characters are nothing new, but Butler is able to fully form her characters and leaves redemption on the table when needed. Knowing what she is capable of given her other novel, I am interested in seeing what she writes next.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I suspect that Lyn Liao Butler had way too much fun whilst writing this entertaining and over the top story about 5 of the top bookish influencers in America who belong to an exclusive book club where they meet online once a month to discuss books and banter.
When one of the quintet is brutally killed during a live meeting when the screen goes blank as the soundtrack of her murder is heard by the other attendees, the remaining four are in a panic - not least because they all have secrets and motives that may have contributed to this terrible outcome. And they can't help wondering - is one of the survivors next?
Fast paced, entertaining and with some very dark tongue in cheek humour, this will strike a chord with readers who are familiar with the bookish social media sites and their star reviewers. A very enjoyable read, it gets 4.5 stars.

A group of popular influencers log on to their virtual bookclub meeting and suddenly their screens freeze but the audio is still on and the ladies are in for a shock as they hear one member being murdered.
Everyone is suspicious of everyone else and no one knows who to trust. The author goes back and forth telling the stories of each bookclub member. The reader soon finds out the they all have secrets giving each person a reason to commit murder.
If you like a fast-paced thriller, this book is for you. It also has a good twisty ending!

Was just okay! Don’t think I’ll necessarily be recommending widely because it simply didn’t do anything new.

The Deadly Book Club was more an analysis of how not to treat your friends, than a thriller where you wanted to find who the murderer was.
As it could have been any of them – they were all pretty selfish, immature, nasty women; and I began to wonder if it should have been set in High School rather than professional adult women.
For me the book didn’t hit the spot. I did get the novel finished which I was considering at one point leaving it in the DNF pile; but continue I did. Although not sure why. I think possibly as it was twisty, but I think because it was so over the top that I just had to keep going to find out how it was going to end.
I came away wondering why? Why did you do this? And with some of the threads still not tied up.

I started this book with high hopes that it would be a fun murder mystery. But not even 10 pages in, I got the feeling that it was more of a YA book.than a murder mystery.
I kept reading, but I really wasn't enjoying it, so I DNF'd it.
Maybe your experience will be better if you're a YA.
Thank you to #NetGalley for an ARC copy if thos book in exchange for my unbiased, honest opinion.

This is a thriller about a rag tag group of women that formed a book club. Each woman hiding her own personal set of secrets. During one of the FaceTime book club meetings, one of the members is murdered. The other members can hear it happening, but can’t see it because the cameras black out. And the secrets start to reveal themselves from here on out. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time.
Thanks to Lyn Liao Butler and NetGalley for allowing me to read this book in exchange for my review.

I’m so glad I got this book as an early reader!
Now for the book it was very hard getting into the story and I’m a big fan of book clubs and even belong to a few. It just seemed like the story was dragging on for me but this is my personal opinion so read at your own discretion

I really wanted to love this book but I simply could not get into it. I very rarely DNF a book but unfortunately this book has received that title. Thank you NetGalley for the ARC of this book.

Livestream To Murder..
Prominent book influencers, an exclusive virtual bookclub and a livestream that moves to murder. As investigations lead to more complex issues than anyone could have expected, secrets and lies will out. A twisty suspense with a great premise, a narrative with multiple viewpoints and a pacy plot.
