Very cute! We are avid color mobster books and this was very similar vibes, in a good way!
My son is 4 and learning about big emotions has been really helpful for him.
The illustrations are also gorgeous!
A big win for my mom and her littles!

Thank you NetGalley, Sook-Hee Choi and Charlesbridge for the early copy!

You Are a Burst of Color is an exploration of feelings and emotions through color. Appropriate for young children, this book would be a great addition to a preschool or kindergarten classroom.

Thank you to Charlesbridge and NetGalley for an ARC of this book. Opinions expressed are my own.

This book is about a young child making sense of her emotions through different colors. The illustrations are beautiful, however I found the font hard to read because it was so small. The story itsself felt jumbled and did not follow a true "order" -- the girl is excited because she finds a new friend, but on the next page she's cheering forherself (why is she cheering?), then the friend doesn't want to play, and it skips to saying 'i should have asked to join' but what would she be joining? it never explains where the friend goes/what she's doing. While the book correlates feelings to colors well, the storyline itself would be confusing for my 6 and 4 year old.

You Are a Burst of Color takes readers on a journey to explore how different colors might make a child feel. “Feelings are as colorful as the rainbow and change all the time”. Each page is filled with beautiful and detailed illustrations, and young kids are sure to open discussions regarding new emotions that they otherwise wouldn’t have stopped to discuss.

A young child makes sense of her emotions through colors. The illustrations of this book were phenomenal as they aptly represented the colors and emotions of the child. This will be a great read for young children who may have issues expressing their emotions, maybe they will find themselves better represented by the colors. The prose is not the star of the show here, but I think it works as it describes the emotions and lets the colors and images do the talking. Overall, I heavily recommend.

First of all, I am so blown away by the illustration. The art is utterly beautiful.

As for the story itself, I love the concept of using colors to teach children different emotions. I also love how accepting this book is of different emotions. There is no “bad” emotion and it’s important to be able to identify how you feel without passing judgement. I think that’s a great lesson for children.
