Unfortunately I wasn't able to connect to the story or the characters in the way I hoped from reading the synopsis. I'm sure the right audience will love this but it wasn't for me.

In this dystopian future, the oceans have risen and those that survived live on islands that were the tops of mountains. A new culture has emerged with elites and lowborn folks. When a lost princess is rescued from execution, threats follow her back to court. She dances around a strong attraction to her step brother whilst re-learning how to be a princess. This book is a slow moving but well built world. I’m interested to see where this goes in the future books. Lots of court intrigue and a conspiracy yet to be uncovered.

This story wasn't my favorite. I thought based on the blurb we were getting dystopian and dystopian it was not. Maybe I would have liked it if I had not gone into the book thinking this. Maybe if the blurb explained better I'd have had a different mindset.

I do love a good no memory story and the discovery path to get it back but Luck came on a little to much too quick. to instalove for me.

but it was written well and I think there are many people out there who love this story if they are not mislead going into the book.

Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for a chance to read and review.

The Royal Mask was given to me by Netgalley in exchange for my honest opinion.

Things that worked for me:
Celine's reunion with her brothers was heartwarming. I enjoyed the characters learning each other and the way Celine's memories came back slowly.

Things that didn't work for me:
The way this story was described makes it sound like it's a dystopian story, but really the setting didn't have much to do with the plot, in my opinion.
Another thing I didn't love was the way there was zero build to Celine and Luck's relationship. He saw her legs and started calling her sweetheart immediately.

There are lots of questions I have after the first book, and many weren't answered, which is why I would read the second book in the series.

A remarkable tale from riches to rags and back.
Celine has no memory age thirteen and up.  Her father has raised her in one of the lower islands, into a wonderful young woman.  Unfortunately for Celine she finds him murdered in their garage.  Which leads to an unimaginable story or mayhem, dispare and ties to her family before she lost her memory.
When the Capree brothers are sent to meet with governors on the lower islands, they never expect to find their sister. Whom they all believe is deceased. Trying to save her from a public execution and bring her back into their lives and world. Things go crazy in their life saving attempt.
Now back at home in their castle with Celine, things get pretty intense. Learning how to be the person she once was. Trying to remember a family she forgets. All while trying to stay safe from the ones who want her to pay for her father's demise.
This story is interesting and has a different approach on adapting to royal life.
I did find that some of the plot at the beginning of the book gets forgotten and isn't mentioned again.  Knowing this is a series, I hope the points are brought up later on.

A quick paced, interesting read. This is a great balance between scifi and romance, and I think it paired well together.
