A very needed publication on Chaim Soutine, a fascinating émigre painter! I long admired his artworks (uncanny meat still lives, splendid textures and lively colors) but information about his bio and monographs about him seemed limited: this is a very welcome contribution that fills a gap in the history of modern painting. Particularly, I was interested in how Soutine’s Jewish identity informed his life in Paris.
