Kuschik delivers a wonderfully accessible and useful guide. The book is structured perfectly for a quick read, with each short chapter providing a powerful phrase and the context to use it effectively. It does an excellent job of showing how small shifts in our language can have a huge impact on our sense of control and self-respect. "This isn’t against you, it’s for me" is a game-changer.
The reason for 4 stars is that for readers who are already well-versed in self-help and boundary literature, some of the advice might feel a bit foundational. But for its intended audience—someone who needs a simple, powerful entry point into self-advocacy—this book is a solid, helpful read.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for my digital copy in exchange for an honest review. This sounded like a book that would be right up my alley, and I guess, technically it was... but I just could not read it for very long at once. Parts of it seemed very text booky and parts of it seemed like I was at a therapist's office...at no point was it actually a "fun" book to read, though. I will say it will probably help a lot of people out there that hadn't already read so many books that cover the same sorts of scenarios...for me, so much of it was either already things I do or say or things I had read about.
