Just like I was drawn to The Silent Patient, this one pulled me in strictly because I love the kind of book where I can’t predict the twist, and where things aren’t always what they seem. I loved that it was available as an audiobook, because I didn’t have to stop listening unless I needed to take my headphones out.

Elise Roth did the narration on this one, and I love how she voiced the characters. It can’t be easy to get the perfect voice, tone, and vibes for the story, but she managed it well with this one.

A woman who sees no options sees one chance at a more stable life than she has at the moment, and it lands her a job with a successful businessman, as a caretaker for his wife, Emilia. It doesn’t seem to matter that Lucy has no experience at caretaking, especially for someone who has experienced a stroke. It made mw wonder why Thomas with all of his money wasn’t able to hire a nurse, or at least someone with specialized training for his non-verbal, mostly paralyzed wife.

However, the way that the story is told isn’t simply from Lucy’s perspective in the present day. Each chapter in this timeline is interspersed with a viewpoint from Emilia’s past, eventually leading up to some really big revelations. I found my impression of the characters changed dramatically based on the info revealed in the plot twist, and that’s a good sign when I’m reading a mystery or suspense novel.

I initially connected with Lucy’s character, and that only got stronger throughout the book. However, the way that I thought of Emilia changed a lot more than once. And so did my perspective of Thomas. There was one plot twist that really surprised me, and I was hoping it would play out as a good surprise rather than a disappointing one. Once the surrounding circumstances were clear, I appreciated how it wasn’t as disappointing as I had first expected. While it still gave me a slight case of “the ick,” I could understand what the author was aiming for, and thought that it was handled pretty well.

This is a fast-paced and engrossing thriller, where each new chapter revealed more secrets. A book with this style tends to keep me sucked into the story, and not wanting to put this down until I had finished, no matter how late it was. There is also an element of disability representation in the story, and it touches on how people with disabilities, particularly severe ones that require higher levels of support, are often infantilized. The way that characters behave towards Emilia offers an insight into how the people helping us may also be the ones holding us back by underestimating us and viewing ‘a disability’ instead of a person with our own desires, hopes, dreams, emotions, goals, and struggles, just like anyone else. Overall, this is a good book to curl up with if you are looking for a thriller you can’t put down until the shocking end.

I thought this was going to be another of the same with this overall theme, but I was pleasantly surprised with this one! I am glad I gave it a shot because it had good and unique twists.

I have read several thrillers in which a wife is kept upstairs, either due to illness/injury or malice, and this one is one of my favorites. Since there are quite a few books with this premise, I don't want to spoil anything with my review, so if you enjoy this trope, give The Wife's Silence a read.

Initially, this book had my attention, but by about 55-60% when the twist is revealed it lost me. I thought it was going somewhere else, thought the characters were going to do more, so in the end it fell kind of flat for me. The twist wasn't really that big of a twist for me, and therefore left me feeling like this lacked what was promised by the beginning. The narrator was great though, I think she was a great choice for this piece.

This isn’t a super long book at under 300 pages, but it definitely packs a punch. There is one huge twist that I absolutely did not see coming! I was definitely enthralled and on the edge of my seat the entire book.
My only negative is that it felt like the “problem” got wrapped up/resolved too easily. But I’m also not sure what I would have preferred. Narrators did a good job too!

Thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to listen and review!

This book was so good! I loved the multiple perspectives and at times unreliable narrators. There were some parts that I was able to predict the twists but others that I did not see coming. This book definitely made me question how far would I go for love? I think even if you do not like them all, the characters are dynamic and you are rooting for them. There were certain parts that I thought the interactions did not match what we knew about the characters. I really loved the ending. I recommend this book it has a little bit of everything and I could not put it down!

I had the audiobook version and the narrator did a great job speaking from different character perspective. This is a good light hearted storyline of a domestic situation that escalated over the years. Some twists I did not see coming and did lose the plot a little bit. Things I wish were not tied the way they had been and seemed a tad forced. Maybe better hints could have been left for the reader/listener to get an aha moment.

The Wife’s Silence is a fast paced domestic thriller that hooked me from the very first page.

★★★★☆

I listened to it as an audiobook, and it was such a great experience. The narrator did a fantastic job voicing the different characters. Her storytelling voice was engaging and expressive, and I simply couldn’t stop listening.

The story is full of dark secrets and twisty turns. Even when I saw some of the reveals coming, I still thoroughly enjoyed how they unfolded. The tension, pacing, and character dynamics all worked so well together. A solid and suspenseful listen (and read).

This story is so good! Kept me guessing throughout and the ending was like 🤯 I loved the multiple perspectives that told the story as a whole, seeing how far, wide and deep Thomas’ lies ran. How much of a sh**stain he really is. My heart was sad for little James and when the ending came, I swear I felt their relief lift up my shoulders. The narrator did a beautiful job.

Amanda McKinney’s The Wife’s Silence is a psychological domestic thriller.

Listening to the audiobook, I was riveted from the start. The suspense and intrigue kept had me invested.

The characters are well developed and the pacing of the story is on par. I had a hard time stopping the audio when I needed to, I wanted to know what happened next.

This is a thriller that I'll be recommending to my friends and family. I enjoyed the audio version, and I'm playing on reading it in print as well.

Thank you Netgalley for the audio of this amazing book!

This was about a 3.5 star audiobook for me. Unfortunately, I figured out the plot, so it was a bit disappointing in that area for me. I did enjoy the narrator and the speed of the story ... I just wish there was a better twist!

⭐️⭐️⭐️ (3.0/5)

This was a fast-paced domestic thriller with plenty of dark secrets, shifting perspectives, and a moody, unsettling atmosphere. The story starts as a dual POV across two timelines and slowly expands, layering in mystery and tension as past and present begin to converge.

I flew through the short chapters and really enjoyed how the tension built up, especially with one major twist that totally caught me off guard. The pacing was solid, and the concept had all the ingredients for a gripping read.

That said, it felt very familiar—like something I’ve read before (though I can’t remember exactly what). Because of that, the plot didn’t feel especially fresh or original. Some of the twists didn’t feel fully earned, and the characters often leaned heavily into tropes without much depth or development. Toward the end, the story started to lose momentum and stretched beyond its natural conclusion, which dulled the impact for me.

Still, if you enjoy thrillers with an eerie vibe, unreliable characters, and secrets slowly unraveling over time, this is one you could easily devour in a weekend.

Thanks to NetGalley and Dreamscape Select | Storm Publishing for an Advanced Listener's Copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

This is a fast paced mystery/thriller told through multiple POVs of several different characters.

I enjoyed the story and the short chapters. It was a super quick read that kept me entertained. There are several things in this story that aren’t realistic or plausible.

I really enjoyed the narration from Elise Roth.

Thanks to NetGalley for the audiobook.

Unfortunately this audio book stopped playing in the Netgalley app on May 28th, two days before the audiobook was archived, and then disappeared from the app all together on May 30th.
So I was unable to finish the book.
It was an interesting start, and the book summary appeared to have additional / more unique elements that the typical husband, wife + new woman trope.
I really liked the narrator.
One question that I had immediately - and maybe it would have been answered if I'd had the opportunity to get further into the book - but how does one become a "famous knife maker" .... ????

Fast-paced, twisty, and just dark enough to keep me on edge—this one gave me serious Verity vibes, but with more players in the game. I guessed a few twists throughout, but there were definitely others that shocked me and hit like a freight train. Amelia and Consuelo stole the show for me—layered, complex, and unforgettable. If you like your thrillers quick to devour but rich in mystery, this one’s a solid pick.

I enjoyed this book and the narration of the audiobook! I listened to the whole thing in one sitting. I thought I knew what was happening as it started, but boy was I wrong. This book was twisty, unpredictable, and full of secrets & lies! One of the big twists confused me a little bit in the logistics, but it fit with the story, so it didn’t take away from my rating!

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the advanced copy!
