Thank you Netgalley and Brilliance Publishing | Brilliance Audio for the free alc. My opinions are being left voluntarily. This is my first by the author and it did not disappoint!!! The narration kept me on the edge of my seat I didn't see the twists coming... and coming ... very impressed I will need to read more of the authors work.

Suggest giving it a try.

This is the last book from Booksparks for their 2025 Summer Reading Challenge. I can’t believe it’s come to an end already! I had a blast with all the thrillers they sent on this track. This was a fun one to end it on.
Fog and Fury starts off a little ominous, and has a slightly spooky atmospheric feel. The FMC “Sonny” is a former detective that moves to a new city as a PI. Her first case is finding a stolen dog, but the death of a boy there is what really captures her interest.
I have to say I didn’t quite see the ending coming, and I loved that this one captured my attention throughout. It is set up to have at least one more book, so I’m definitely hooked and ready for a sequel!

I thought the narrator did an excellent job. I could honestly see her as an actual ex-detective/ burgeoning small-town PI. The audiobook was great overall.

An ex LAPD Sonny, has moved onto new and better things in a small town. But not everything is as it appears. I was pulled in immediately and I really came to like Sonny. She's a tough nugget and I liked how she stood firm on what's important for her. I really liked following the investigation and getting to know some of the townspeople. I was very surprised by the twist once everything was revealed. I didn't see it coming, and that ending! My my, I hope there will be a second installment. The narrator, Inger Tudor does a wonderful job portraying Sonny and several of the characters in town. The tones and inflections used were spot on.
A very special thanks to Booksparks + Brilliance Audio + Netgalley + Amazon Publishing for the gifted copy.

If Rachel Howzell-Hall writes a detective/PI novel, Ima read it. I have missed Lou Norton so much, so getting a reasonable facsimile in Sonny Rush is just gonna have to do! Now everyone cross your fingers and pray that we get more than a few books in this new series. I'm intrigued by what happens with Uncle and her (was married but now suddenly not married) beau.

Another winner by Rachel Howzell Hall! Sonny, a terminated LAPD officer, takes a job in Haven CA as a PI in her family friend’s firm. Taking a less-stressful job in a small seaside community will help her recover from the trauma in her last job and she will be able to care for her mom, who has dementia. Wrong! Haven has more secrets and evil than one could imagine in this fast-paced thriller. Loved the new location, great characters, and lots of drama and twists. Kudos to Hall!
