The premise of this book was unique which I wasn't prepared for but absolutely loved! Husband and wife, Evangeline and Cal are a part of the fencers who protect humans from Fae. In 1987, all the people who died (over 100, 000) became murderous creatures known as Fae. This was during the autumnal equinox, and overnight, some people were covered in tattoos of prime numbers, which gave them powers. All the while, the Fae whisper of a Bloodless Queen. I loved this book, but I did feel that big events didn't get their due diligence, and events that did not feel as important were dragged out. Otherwise, this was an amazing book, and I wanted more knowledge of the goings on!

I received an ALC of the audiobook from the publisher and Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
I found this intriguing. It's a really unusual world, and the worldbuilding is well done. I felt like I came away with a good understanding of the magic elements as well as the political and religious factions.
The pacing is very weird, though. A lot of the action scenes are broken up by flashbacks and memories to establish context, and the main action happens in the last 15% or so of the book. There's also a fair amount of head-hopping within scenes, which I don't enjoy.
The narration is mostly excellent. It kept me engaged and it set the tone well. There are quite a few mispronunciations, but otherwise it's great.
I really did enjoy reading this (which I attribute at least in part to the quality of the narration), but the pacing let it down.
