Thank you @NetGalley and @VictoryEditingNetGalleyCoOp for this ARC! Thank you to @EarlyReviewers as well for choosing me to receive and review this book.

We follow the life of Daisy and the life of Logan and how their lives somehow intermingle and they keep coming back to each other. While living separate lives most of their life, they continue to run into each other, email back and forth, and continue their day to day. So many event occur in their lives and yet, they come back to each other. In a story of love, grief, death, marriage, divorce, parenthood, and military life, you learn to fall in love with each character separately but then all together too. It’s is beautifully written to keep the reader wanting to know more and pulls you in till the very end.

I highly recommend this book to anyone that loves a slow burn that helps you learn to love the journey of your life, one choice at a time!

The Last One definitely took me on an emotional rollercoaster. I was caught completely off guard by the honest raw emotion in the book; this lead to a lot of self reflection into my own experiences. Logan and Daisy kind of reminded of an everyday couple-- they were not picture perfect. They were faced with situations that were complex. The FMC and MMC's relationship was flawed by missed opportunities, and those things that went unsaid. I enjoy books that more reflect the "what really is " in relationships when faced with tragedy and complex situations, rather than glossing over them or romanticizing the situation. Once I started The Last One, I could not put it down. I will admit, that I did shed some tears.

Thank you to NetGalley and H. Pearce for my ARC Copy.

“It was as if their souls knew they belonged to dance together, but life’s tempo was offbeat.”

This is a quick and introspective read that reminds us that no matter how right someone may seem to be for us, timing may not be on our side. I was glad Daisy found happiness and satisfaction in her life, but it was certainly in a different manner than I was expecting as I read the book.

You will not stop thinking about this book because it will tug your heart and never let go. And you learn to hold on to love when it comes..

This was such a beautiful story that explained the dance of a missed opportunity, the one who got away, and the trials life can throw at you time and time again. In short I ate this up. The type of reading experience that you don’t want to set the book down. I loved that we got 2 POVs. My only complaint is at times it seemed repetitive. I would definitely recommend to a friend

This novella may be short, but the emotional weight it carries is immense. The Lost One was beautifully written and completely wrecked me—in the best, most devastating way. It explores the aching truth that sometimes, love isn’t enough… and that meeting your person doesn’t always mean the timing is right.

The story follows two souls who cross paths over and over, their connection undeniable and their love palpable—but life, as it often does, has other plans. The missed chances, the heartbreak, the longing—it all unfolds in just a few pages, yet it left me shattered.

H. Pearce masterfully captures the quiet grief of what could’ve been. I found myself crying, grieving the love these characters deserved but couldn’t fully grasp. It’s a heartbreaking reminder that not every love story ends with a happy ever after—and sometimes, those are the stories that stay with us the longest.

If you’re looking for something raw, hauntingly beautiful, and emotionally resonant—this is the one. Just be prepared to feel it all.

Have your tissues ready—this one will make you ugly cry.

This book devastated me—in the best way. I was completely invested in the love story between Daisy Jenkins and Logan Blake. It’s a story of missed chances, where love blossoms into a beautiful friendship, only to become a reflection of the paths not taken when life has other plans.

The Last One is an emotional journey that will leave you aching for what could have been. H. Pearce captures the complexity of timing, circumstance, and the quiet pain of almost-love. I loved how the story walked us through both Daisy and Logan’s lives, showing how deep and enduring their connection was, even as it evolved.

In the end, love does win—but not in the way we hoped. And that’s what makes this story unforgettable.

Thank you, NetGalley, for this ARC. Truly an unforgettable story.

I really enjoyed this novella, but it left me wanting more. This easily could’ve been a full length novel, as I was drawn in by the story and the emotional rollercoaster near the end. Overall, I enjoyed the 2 POVs of the main characters, although at times it did feel repetitive and not always something new was added to the scene. The story throughout was emotional, tragic, heartbreaking, but left me feeling a bit hopeful for the main character. I will definitely check out other works by the author after this!

I’d recommend this book for anyone looking for strangers to lovers, SLOW burn, yearning… but also tragedy, depth, and missed opportunities .

Wow, this book really is a treat jerker! I was not expecting it to be so emotional. There is a lot of real-life talk and lots of grief of all types.
This book was easy to read, really intriguing, and wanted to keep reading.
What i thought was going to be an undeniable love story where life gets in the way of their love but still comes together, but boy, i was wrong.
Sometimes, even true love done work out 💔

Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for this ARC novella by an author I definitely want to read more from! I don't even know how to describe this one other than to recommend it to anyone who wants their heart ripped out. It was absolutely devastating but in the most beautiful way imaginable. It was well written, and despite all the obstacles in their way, I had the highest hopes that Logan and Miss Daisy would end up together in the end. I won't spoil it for others, you'll just have to read it and find out for yourself. It's a story that makes you think about second chances and what might of been (which for some reason are my favorite). I also loved that it was a novella, just the right length for the story!

Thanks to NetGalley, I got to read an Arc of the Last One before it was released. It's a short novella about journalist Daisy Jenkins who sits down to interview Logan Blake, a brilliant neurosurgeon, and they just find a spark that is undeniable. But life is life and they go their separate ways, keeping in touch by email only on occasion until their lives re-collide under tragic circumstances years later. If you have ever had a love filled with missed chances and unspoken feelings, this is that in boo form. My only gripe (if it can be called that, which it can't) is that by the time we get to the end, I was so invested that I wanted more. I didn't want it to end and not as quickly and the way it did. Solid 4 stars and perfect to read over a weekend!

Honestly, I wasn’t a fan of this book, but I stuck it out to see if my thoughts would change….they didn’t.

First off, I think it’s unnecessary to have 2 POVs the entire time. It gets repetitive and doesn’t add much new information that readers could just interpret themselves.

Second, I guess I don’t buy the relationship between Daisy and Logan. They were barely friends, but they’re both somehow are so in love with each other?

Again, this book was just not for me.

I loved this one! Not my usual genre but loved the writing and how the chapters had different POV but with a crossover to get the other persons perspective. Sad in parts and definitely worth a read!

"Sometimes, we settle for what we think we deserve and not what we need".

The chapters alternate between Daisy, a journalist for The Daily and Logan, a well-known neuroscientist being interviewed for his fundraising. After a brief meeting when they were young, the story follows them through their adult years and their brief encounters and email exchanges. Both live very different lives, and go on to experience various trials and tribulations through adulthood. Focusing on love, loyalty and the power of time, sometimes the one person you want is the one person you can't have. This is one of the most powerful books I've ever read; I struggled to put it down. It's thought-provoking, tear-jerking and incredibly well-written. An absolute must-read.

Based off the writing alone, the writing was undeniably beautiful. It sucked me in immediately and until the 50% mark I couldn’t put the book down. The Duel POVs were very well done and I liked how they overlapped so we got both perspectives on the same scene. Surprisingly, I didn’t hate the third person narration either. It somehow worked really well with this story. I think there are people who will love this book, unfortunately, I am not one of those people. I absolutely hated it. I was left feeling angry, frustrated, sad, and ironically depressed- considering the author is a mental health advocate. I could go into detail about why this story elicited all of the above emotions from me but I don’t want to give away spoilers. I say give this book a chance and if you don’t mind the “tag your it” back and forth, never seems to progress and go anywhere, romance than keep reading because then you will love this book. If you find yourself not vibing with the book than let me save you the frustration and DNF if because it never gets better, it only gets worse.

The Last One broke my heart. It’s a short book, but it hits hard.

Daisy Jenkins is a rising journalist, and Logan Blake is a neuroscientist trying to change the way people talk about men’s mental health. When Daisy interviews him, she doesn’t expect to feel such a strong connection, but it’s there. Over the years, as their lives take them all over the world, they keep crossing paths. The timing is never right, but the feelings never really go away.

This story feels so real. Daisy and Logan have the kind of love that almost happens, but not quite. You keep hoping they’ll figure it out, even though deep down you know how it ends.

The book deals with tough, emotional things like grief, motherhood, love, and mental health. It’s honest, messy, and deeply moving. H. Pearce somehow packed all of that into just over 200 pages. I read it all in one sitting, and by the end, I had tears in my eyes.

This isn’t a fairytale romance. It’s the kind of love story that stays with you. If you’ve ever cared deeply for someone but never got the chance to be with them, this book will hit home.

This book is a moving and heart-rending story of two star-crossed soulmates, Logan Blake, a neuroscientist, and Daisy Jenkins, a newspaper reporter, who were never fated to stay together as a couple.

When Logan and Daisy met each other initially and intermittently afterwards, they felt they had a profound attachment to each other based on mutual acceptance and understanding but they never acknowledged or expressed it verbally to one another. However, they repressed their emotions but it never did disappear.

When feelings are suppressed, it is manifested in many ways, impacting both mental and physical well-being and influencing how a person interacts with the world.

As the title implies, the author was alluding to the couple's final opportunity to reveal their true feelings. the last one shot at happiness, and the chance to connect with each other's essence before misfortune strikes.

H. Pearce had an inimitable style of writing that brings out strong images and evocative emotional responses. Her words flowed effortlessly and captured the core of a love story that resonated with the readers. This classic narrative has a definitive touch of an unforgettable romantic tragedy.

You know those days when you want a heartbreaking so sad emotional roller coaster book to just give you a good cry? Yes that would be this, I went in blind not knowing and it hit me like a ton of bricks. It almost made me cry as much as Catch The Sun by Jennifer Hartmann did.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The Last One

This book caught me off guard in the best way. I went in expecting a love story, but what I got was something much messier, more honest, and way more emotional than I was ready for. Logan and Daisy aren’t picture-perfect — they’re complicated, broken, and so real it kind of hurts. Their dynamic felt raw and unfiltered, which made it impossible not to care about them, even when things got hard to watch unfold.

What I really appreciated was how this story didn’t try to romanticize everything. It’s the kind of book that chips away at you as you read and when you finish, you’re left sitting there with that quiet ache in your chest, that leaves you feeling hollow. The finch at the end had me in tears.

Daisy is an up and coming journalist who has an appointment to interview Logan a neuroscientist. They both experience an instant attraction and throughout their lives they occasionally and accidentally happen to meet. The connection is powerful and told on dueling timelines. A tragedy brings them together and they admit their feelings though they are never acted upon.

I am not normally attracted to books in the genre and this one is an exception. It is a powerful story with very likable characters. I did something I’ve never done before and have marked all the books by this author as books I want to read.

Thank you Voracious Readers and NetGalley
