This collection of short stories was amazing for want of a better word. I loved each and every story contained within and couldn’t put it down. I have to say I can’t really pick a favourite, despite being a werewolf fan, because each story stood out and stuck with me long after finishing. This is perfect to have around when you need a quick scare or have time to kill and want well executed horror tales with immersive writing and memorable tales.
As always thank you to Brigid’s Gates Press for the advanced copy to review, my reviews are always honest and freely given.

They Hide is a fun collection of stories that explores different tropes and creatures of the genre. As with any anthology, you’ll probably enjoy some tales more than others, but if horror is your jam, there’s likely something here for you.
The author delves into folk horror, haunted houses, demons and witches, and even some good old-fashioned human madness -but for me, the stories that work best are the shorter ones, with little to no explanation for the “why” of things.
Maria’s work is, in short, a testament to her love for the genre, one I enjoyed very much.

As a bonus, I also want to highlight that the book includes a list of trigger warnings, separated by story. While I don’t personally rely on them, I deeply appreciate the empathy and care for readers that this kind of attention reflects. It's something I truly value in an author.

A compelling anthology of chilling horror tales that I very much enjoyed. The stories were all a bit different - some truly uncanny, others more psychological. A great read for any horror fan.

‘They hide’ is a collection of thirteen chilling tales which shows a whole other perspective on the human psyche and fears.
Francesca Maria managed to leave me wanting for more. Her writing is great and easy to follow. The tales are very well crafted and did what they had to do: creep you out in the best way. There are a few short stories with an open ending, leaving you guessing what would have happened.
The list of trigger warnings was an added value to the book. Check them first if you want to know, what you’re getting into.
This collection is best enjoyed with the light on or during the day.
