I am normally all for a good F1 romance but this one just didn't hit the mark for me.
Typically, I like there to be more of the cars and the business of F1 racing incorporated and this part of it was severely lacking.
All of the characters in this book, in one way or another, were toxic in their own rights and the main two characters didn't seem like they should belong together for their own sanity.
The best part for me was how good the spicy scenes were, but it needed a less disjointed plot. Between the time jumps and the controversy that wasn't explained well, it just didn't give the desired outcome.

I received an ARC copy of the audiobook and in that respect the narrators were very good and I appreciated that there was a dual perspective in that sense. It did take me a while to get used to the Austrian character's monologue being strong British but accented when speaking but it was something that I could look past once halfway through even if just to better understand so it didn't have a huge effect in the end.

DNFed at 25%. I was bored, did not care about the characters, and the audio seems a little disjointed.

This was unfortunately a DNF for me. The characters were toxic, the spice was overdone, and Klaus (our main male character) is still stuck on his dead ex.

*~ Spiciest opening scene ~*

This book really does come in hot. Unfortunately, I just felt like there was a lot of spice with not much substance in between. Then an accidental pregnancy and it kind of lost me. I saw the story through, and enjoyed the narrators, especially the male narrator, but ultimately, it's just not one of those stories that I'm going to scream from the mountain tops about.

Thank you to Net Galley, Hachette Audio, and Josie Juniper for an ALC of this story.

Natalia is a reporter that just started a new job as a F1 journalist. She quickly finds out that her one night stand is the team principal of Emerald, Klaus Franke. They both decide that they will forget this night and that this will never happen again. But this was harder than they thought and soon they are spending more and more time together.

A relationship between them turns out to be harder than they thought. Klaus struggles with trusting and confiding in Natalia because she is from the press. Natalia meets up with her parents who abandoned her and she learns why her parents never came back. Then they get caught up in a scandal. Is their love strong enough to overcome all these things?

This is a very spicy F1 romance between a team principal and a journalist. I didn’t really like Klaus, but the rest of the characters were fine. The characters were a bit older than in the books that I normally read. I needed to get used to it but then it was fine.
I don’t really know what to say about this story. The story didn’t really grab me and I got bored at some parts while reading this story.
I listened to this book and the production was great. It’s narrated in a dual pov by two different authors. The narration was really great and I liked the German accent of Klaus.

Thank you NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.

I'm not into formula 1 as a backdrop but mostly it's not important, I liked this second in a series book, but the two leads were awfully stubborn about some pretty important things and I didn't like some of their decisions especially on work and conflict of iterest.

I liked the characters in this book and i liked how they went back and forth a lot. The fights actually made sense and it didnt feel like it was just them breaking up just to break up. I love the book cover with all those colors too. Overall i really enjoyed the book. The narrator wasnt bad but they werent necessarily my favorite either.

🔥 Audiobook Review: Coming in Hot by Josie Juniper 🔥
🎧 Narrated by Max Rauch & Cecily Foster

F1 racing, off-the-charts chemistry, and a one-night stand that comes back full throttle—this audiobook had me hooked from lap one.

Natalia Evans is a badass journalist chasing the next big story. Klaus Franke is a grumpy, ice-cold team principal trying to outrun his past. When their paths collide again after a fiery night in Monaco, the sparks don’t just reignite—they explode. Think scandal, slow-burn tension, enemies with history, and a relationship that could destroy both their careers if it goes public.

What makes this audiobook stand out? The narration. Max Rauch nails Klaus’s broody, German-accented vibe, while Cecily Foster gives Natalia the sharp, confident edge she deserves. Their voices made the push-pull tension between these two feel extra delicious. Honestly, if you’re into audio, this is how you want to experience this book.

⚠️ A heads-up: some emotional beats happen off-page and the pacing skips around between races, so I had moments of “Wait, when did that happen?” Still, the steam, the scandal, and the sports world backdrop kept me locked in.

If you’re in the mood for:
🏁 Formula 1
🔥 One-night-stand to lovers
🗞️ Journalist x Team Principal
👄 Dirty talk & undeniable tension

Then buckle up—this one’s coming in Hot

This book had so much potential to be a great story, I enjoyed reading it but decided to give it 4 stars because the main characters, Natalia and Klaus spent most of the book going back and forth denying their feelings for one another and normally I enjoy that, but in this story, it was frustrating to me.
Natalia is a reporter, and Klaus is a F1 driver. A one- night stand leaves them in a back-and-forth dance going from extremely spicy chemistry to going back to be strangers again.
Lots of time jumps, surprise pregnancy but a happy ever after.
My favorite quote of the book: "Tell me what you want, stop forcing me to guess, then punishing me when I get it wrong."
I understand both characters overcoming trauma resulting in denying their relationship, but I feel like they just frustrated me so bad that I wanted to knock their heads together.
I completed this book though in under 2 days so as much as they made me angry, I apparently loved it!

In this sequel to Double Apex we get the follow up that we wanted of Phaedra’s best friend Natalia Evans and the right hand man to Phaedra of Klaus Frake. Natalia deals with the on again off again situationship they find themselves in along with family that shows up after 20+ years of being MIA. I was lucky enough to read and listen to this at the same time, and the voice actors did not disappoint! If you did read the first book and if you love, love finding a way please pick up this book. Thank you Netgalley, Forever, Hachette Audio, & Josie Juniper for choosing me to be an arc reader for this book.

I’m sorry but I can’t listen to this, i’m literally 18 minutes in, 3% and it feels like just pure smut and that just isn’t for me

This just wasn't for me. It was my first racing book, so maybe that plays into it... but it was a struggle to finish the book. It felt like this huge back and forth with no real interesting plot.

"Coming in Hot"

I was really excited to read Coming in Hot because I love racing and thought a romance set in the Formula 1 world would be super cool. But honestly, it didn't live up to my expectations.

What Didn't Work for Me:

Confusing Timeline: The story jumps around a lot, and sometimes I couldn't tell if it was the past or present. This made it hard to follow the plot.

Characters Felt Flat: I didn't connect with the main characters. They didn't feel real or relatable, and their relationship seemed rushed.

Too Much Focus on Romance: I was hoping for more racing action, but the book focused mostly on the romantic drama, which got repetitive.

What Was Okay:

Interesting Setting: The Formula 1 backdrop was unique, and I liked learning a bit more about that world.

Some Funny Moments: There were a few jokes that made me smile, which was nice.

Suggestions for Improvement:

Clearer Storyline: Keeping the timeline straightforward would make the story easier to follow.

More Character Development: Giving the characters more depth would help readers connect with them.

Balance the Themes: Including more racing scenes and less repetitive romance would make the book more exciting.

In summary, Coming in Hot had potential with its unique setting, but it didn't quite hit the mark for me.

Not my favorite unfortunately. I did enjoy the first book a lot more.

Picking up ‘Coming in Hot’ I just couldn’t connect to the characters, it made caring about where the story was going pretty impossible, there’s lots of melodrama with low dramatic pull. It makes everything feel like it’s happened in slow motion in the worst way.

Having been pretty excited about this after liking the first book this is sadly just disappointing.

THEY ARE SO DUMB!!!! AND CAN’T COMMUNICATE!!! DESPITE HER BEING A JOURNALIST AND HIM BEING AN F1 TEAM PRINCIPAL!!! AT THEIR BIG AGE 35 AND 45 RESPECTIVELY!!!!!

what a waste of time! on Toto Wolff fanfiction at that! 🤡🤡🤡

plot review:
- I didn’t care for them, they both annoyed the hell out of me, incredibly unlikeable characters
- they both very immature or rather borderline childish and refused to communicate and listen each other out — we’re just friends, friends who kissed two weeks ago, friends who flirt and sometimes fuck, friends who will have a fucking baby together
- the accidental pregnancy trope near the end???? she went to one singular (1) pharmacy to get emergency birth control and they were out and she called it a day because work is hectic????? and then is surprised that she’s pregnant? one could expect more from a 35 yo woman but—
- she got a job at F1 without knowing ANYTHING about F1, and later doing “THOROUGH” research that did not include the biggest brand TEAM PRINCIPAL????? are we being serious here????

composition review:
- time jumps EVERY CHAPTER varying from a week to six months were CRIMINAL — and stuff that happens off the page??? JAILTIME

audiobook review:
- THE WORST ACCENTS EVER (both male and female voices) — maybe hire someone who can do an accent because this was really the worst, and sometimes it was incomprehensible… and klaus’ accent in his head was British, him speaking in his pov was barely there accent (the best out of the bunch), and his voice in natalia’s pov was absolutely comical /neg.

No positive comments for this book. Sorry. It was a complete miss for me. I hope this type of romance never finds me.

Thank you NetGalley for providing me with an ARC audiobook

I loved the first book in the series, but this was a bit of a letdown. The timeline was all over the place and I didn't love the surprise pregnancy trope. I loved the cover though.

Coming in Hot is a sweet, fast-paced romance set against the high-stakes world of Formula 1 racing. As someone with zero F1 knowledge, I appreciated that the romance stood on its own. The two leads are charming and undeniably cute together, and the audiobook version brings an extra layer of charm to the experience.

While the chemistry works and the spice is tastefully done, the tone leans heavily into cheesy territory. And the unexpected pregnancy twist toward the end disrupted the flow for me personally.

That said, if you’re in the mood for a sporty romance filled with tension, cute moments, and a touch of heat, this might be the one for you.

Thank you to NetGalley and Hachette Audio for the audio copy in exchange for an honest review!

I loved the premise of this book and really wanted to enjoy it as much as I anticipated I would. However, there were things that weren’t executed well, in my opinion. For example, the age gap. There’s not much communication about it or about the power dynamic of him being a powerful person in their field.

I unfortunately didn’t feel as though they had too much of a connection to warrant them still caring after the time jumps. There just wasn’t the oomph you look for.

I will say there were some enjoyable aspects, though and would recommend it to people who just want a chill listen.

2.5 stars rounded up

Thank you to Hachette Audio and Netgalley for the audiobook arc!

I want to preface this by saying that I really loved the narration style of this - the female narrator was perfect, I do think the male narrator sounded a bit too old at times! I was able to flow into the story with the narrators though and breezed through.

Onto the story as a whole, I’m a bit disappointed by the content and plot in itself. I gave it 2.75 stars. With F1 romance there’s such promise there, but from the beginning the characters are thrown together. The FMC is 35 and MMC is 45 - but sometimes it didn’t feel that way at times. The dialogue felt a bit stilted.

I did like the tropes of this F1, journalist x CEO, age gap and second chance at love for both. The grief was done well and the development - I loved seeing different aspect on F1 too.

I loved reading the softness of the relationship once it developed it was very sweet. There’s a twist at the end of the book too that shocked me, but I actually really liked it!

Overall I think there was promise there but wasn’t necessarily executed - although narrator wise the female narrator and production was superb!

F1 romance is such a ride and I have really started to love reading this type of sports romance! I really love when there is tension and high stakes and I feel like the F1 delivers when done right! I liked that this was in the F1 world, but from the perspective of the principal rather than the driver, especially since this is a series. I like that we are getting different views! I also love a forbidden romance, and of course being drawn to the journalist looking for a story is always something to be cautious about. Natalia and Klaus are clearly attracted to each other, with their first encounter being a no names one night stand. Things get a little complicated once they find out who the other is, but the way they are pulled towards the other is hard for either of them to resist.

I love that we still got some insights into the previous couple, and I cannot stress enough how great the audios have been for both books so far! Men with accents, and accents done well are so irresistible! Max Rauch and Cecily Foster took on these characters so well! Klaus’s Austrian accent is so swoony!
