Writing Mr. Wrong is a super cute second-chance romance following Gemma and Mason. Gemma is a romance author who published a novel in which she based the male main character on Mason, her high school crush, who is now a famous hockey player. While on a local morning talk show hosted by a former classmate, she comes face-to-face with Mason, who has been invited to the show without her knowledge. The host puts Gemma in an awkward position and tries to embarrass her by telling viewers that Gemma's male character is based on Mason. Instead, everyone is surprised when Mason actually helps Gemma. Soon after, a clip of the interaction gets lots of attention, leading to their publicists suggesting they pretend to date to help both of their careers.
I love a good fake relationship, and this one had the added element of Gemma and Mason having a complicated history. Not only are they trying to navigate the complexities of a fake relationship, but they are also forced to deal with suppressed feelings and past heartbreak. I loved witnessing the development of their relationship. The more time they spent together, the more they opened up and the better they understood who each other are as adults. The mature communication in this story made me so happy. I loved seeing how supportive Mason was of Gemma. Mason's growth really hit me in the feels. Turns out he is super swoony and underneath the hard exterior, he is a big softie. Gemma and Mason's slow-burn romance had a satisfying ending that left me with a smile on my face.
Narration:
Patricia Santomasso and Sean Patrick Hopkins perform this audiobook in duet. They provided the perfect voices for Gemma and Mason and brought them to life in the best way. Patricia and Sean did well bringing the laughs, romance, and vulnerability. Their performances made this an easy and fun listen.

Thanks to Forever and Hachette Audio for the early listen 😍
This was fast-paced, fun concept! I've said it many times before, but a book is so much more enjoyable to me when the main characters have some sort of history and this was just that.
It had a few too many hockey analogies for my liking, but that didn't end up deterring from the overall experience, and the duet narration was great.
I will continue to pick up contemporary romance from Kelley Armstrong for light listening/reading!

This second-chance hockey romance had its moments: emotional flashbacks, steamy tension, and cutesy banter. I liked the premise more than the execution, but if you're into moody athletes and unresolved feelings, it’s worth a shot.
Overall, solid and sweet, just nothing groundbreaking. I liked it, but didn’t love it. Cute moments and good chemistry, just didn’t leave a lasting impression.
The narrorator did doa great job, and I love when the audiobooks are done in duet style!

I got a copy of the audiobook from Netgalley so thank you Netgalley and Hachette Audio for this opportunity ❤️
First of all, this is a duet and the narrators are perfect! I really believe that they voiced the characters so well. They were able to portray each emotion and scene really goood.
Now the story. It is a second-chance romance-ish of Gemma and Mason who were old classmates. Gemma, a debut author, was forced to write a book with an asshole MMC and she kind of used Mason as inspiration. She was invited for an interview with another old classmate as the host. The host invited Mason as well to attend the interview without telling Gemma. The two went viral and they went to go on fake dates to sell Gemma's book and to clean up recent issues circulating Mason and his career as a hockey player.
I love how this is both second chance romance and fake dating tropes. The characters are lovable with its summer vibes. They both had struggles that they were trying to overcome within themselves and it's really good to see developments in them as we go deeper into the story. For one, their relationship changes from sort-of-enemies to friends to lovers.
What i love about Gemma the most is that she has clear goals and she really knows what she wants. She's firm in her beliefs and decisions. She doesn't let Mason get off easily and she calls him out whenever necessary. This behavior may be connected to what happened to her in the last which is all the more admirable.
Mason, on the other hand, had a really great character development as well. At first he was very unaware of his surroundings and how he acted. As a hockey superstar, he was oblivious of anything that doesn't involve him or affect him directly. With Gemma calling him out, he really listened. He showed willingness to change this behavior and put in effort to be better.
Overall, I also loved that there were no extensive miscommunication since they talk about every conflict immediately, may it be minor or major. There had been no annoying assumptions and mind-reading superpowers. Both characters showed interest in clearing the air as soon as possible.
I had the author's old books in my TBR shelf back in 2015-2018 and I never got to read them so imagine my surprise knowing that she writes romance now. I am down! Excited to read more from Kelly :)
4/5 stars

I loved this one as much as the first. Writing Mr Wrong comes in after the events of the Finding Mr Write. This story follows Gemma, Chris’s sister, and the man who hurt her in high school, Mason. Written like a second chance romance the past and present collide when they are brought into an interview together. What follows is a fun and entertaining fake dating experience that I couldn’t put down.
The characters are just as good as the last story. They even have a cameo in the story. Gemma is a sweetheart, and Mason is the hockey star who pretends to be worse than he is. The way they are written really made the story what it was.

This was the best cast. Done in a duet format, you get to hear the characters in the voices they are read with all the time. It really helps keep you in the story. I found that when I wasn’t reading the story, I was listening to it. I just couldn’t put it down and wanted to find out what was going to happen next.
I highly recommend this story in either format.

I loved this romcom. The MMC is the perfect misunderstood hockey player and FMC was a great bookish character. I loved that she was a writer and he gave the dyslexia rep. Also loved the argument that audiobooks count as reading. The narrators really added to the story and I loved the sound effects of text messages added to story. Thank you Net Galley and the author for the chance to listen to this book early.

This was such a fun listen. I'm a sucker for a hockey romance and a second chance romance, so I am definitely predisposed to like this book. The spice was great and I enjoyed this audiobook narration

This was such a cute romance book! I loved the idea of the writer writing a book about her old crush from school who was a hockey player. Then her bully tried to make bad publicity for her by setting her up. But I loved the fake date idea and then just went up hill from there with the history and finally talking about it.
Thank you NetGalley for allowing me to listen and review this book before publication.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the arc and alc.
This was another fun romance by Kelley Armstrong. I think I enjoyed "Finding Mr. Right" slightly better than this book, but it was still a really enjoyable romance. I also loved the chemistry between Gemma and Mason and definitely thought they were meant to be together! The audiobook narrators Patricia Santomasso and Sean Patrick Hopkins were also perfect together and I loved the dual narration in each chapter.

I thoroughly enjoyed this story!! The duet narration was excellent and made this a seamless listen!
Gemma and Mason’s story was paced extremely well and I found their journey to be really authentic whilst still maintaining plenty of humor and drama. If you’re looking for a story with mature, self aware main characters this is a great one to pick up! These aren’t your still trying to find their footing in the world, early 20-somethings. These are established adults who are navigating what life changes and rediscovery mean for them. While this story has an incredibly small cast of characters, it maintained my attention and investment from start to finish and was easily binge-able!
This was a truly light and heartwarming read!
Note that there are some sensitive topics mentioned in the story and I recommend checking the content warnings before opening the book, especially regarding fertility, miscarriage, and infidelity (all discussed after the fact, none of this occurred on page).
I’m so grateful to NetGalley and Hachette Audio for the opportunity to enjoy an ALC of Writing Mr. Wrong and I can’t wait for it to be shared with the world tomorrow 6/24!

This was a light read (or shall I say listen). Considering this was my first audiobook, I was very excited and surprised when I found out that this was a two-person narration, which I found to be very cool and it seemed like the team had put in a lot of effort into it. (Kudos @hachetteaudio ) The book is a light-hearted, second-chance romance—not my favorite trope, but I still requested this ARC because I wanted to venture out. The concept of Gemma accidentally writing her high-school crush, who turned into an 'enemy,' as the Romance Hero for her debut novel was interesting, especially when said crush is a well-known professional hockey player on the local NHL team.
I thought the storyline was very interesting and I got into it, but I was disappointed when Gemma and Mason meet—after years, mind you. And throughout, it just felt like the two characters were very much stuck in their high school personalities, 20 years later. They did not seem like either one had grown up or acted like they were in their late 30s. Gemma was still stuck in her high school mentality of who's cool and who's not, and Mason couldn't get over how amazing he was. There's also the appearance of the mean cheerleader who becomes a TV show host and ambushes Gemma (I'm not sure I could relate because don't people grow up once they graduate high school and life gets to them?).
Also, Mason was sort of an idiot/asshole and did minor questionable things. While I understand that there is a redemption arc coming, I waited for it—for a very long time—and it finally came in the last 10% of the book, which was not sufficient for me to trust him enough as a character. I was disappointed with how little character growth we get from both Gemma and Mason; the third act began and was over in a jiffy. It felt a bit too abrupt for me.
Nonetheless, thank you @netgalley for giving me the early copy. I thoroughly enjoyed the audiobook in general and couldn't stop listening to it because it's so easy while multi-tasking.

Writing Mr. Wrong is a model romance- exactly why I read the genre! Both characters are in their late 30s which I loved and both are looking for a new direction in their lives. They are former classmates with a second chance romance as adults. I liked that Gemma was a realist and that Mason wasn't really an a-hole. The pacing, set-up, and conflicts are worked well. All the side characters, especially the grandmas added to the richness of the story. It is sweet while still being mature.
The narrators do a great job with their pacing and vocal choices. I prefer this style of duet narration to dual or single narrator. Both voice actors captured the contemplative nature of their characters internal dialogue.
Thank you to NetGalley and Hachete/Forever for this eARC!

Cute ✔️
Swoon worthy ✔️
HS romance re-do vibes. ✔️
Did I mention adorable? ✔️
Gemma and Mason. Well, this one starts out when they were very young…kindergarten to be exact!
They were friends since then. She helped him with his schoolwork. He was always sweet to her…
And then, finally, one day in HS…he kissed her! And, she loved it! And then, that was it. He ghosted her! And not only that, his friends made it even worse!
Fast forward about 20 years…
Now, he’s a star hockey player and she’s a writer. But, for her current book, they wanted her to write a romance. BUT, not just any romance… one where the guy ends up being an ass! So, naturally, who would she base the book on? You got it!
And when they meet up, Mason decides that they should ‘fake date’ to try to get her some more publicity to sell her books… And, I’m going to leave it at that…. 🛑
This was sweet. This was hot. This was adorable. This was eye-opening. This is one you don’t want to miss! And, if you like audiobooks, well, the narrators were terrific!!
#WritingMrWrong by #KelleyArmstrong and narrated beautifully by #PatriciaSantomasso and #SeanPatrickHopkins.
5 big, bright, beautiful shining 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 for me!

4.25⭐️
Writing Mr. Wrong was an absolute delight from start to finish. This is a second-chance, sports romance with a touch of fake dating. He’s a charming pro hockey player; she’s a writer and his former high school tutor (and the one that got away), now recently divorced and rediscovering herself. This story had banter, chemistry, healthy communication and heartwarming moments.
I especially loved the FMC —she’s refreshingly grounded, with a real sense of vulnerability and strength. Her flaws, fears, and hopes made her deeply relatable. There’s meaningful character development woven throughout, touching on healing, growth, accountability and learning to ask for what you want. The emotional depth gave this story real staying power.
From a technical standpoint, this audiobook was also phenomenal —strong performances in a duet narration setting (the best!), seamless editing, great pacing, and occasional sound effects that made it feel almost cinematic. It was immersive and elevated the whole experience.
This was my first book by this author, but it definitely won’t be my last. With a solid story and standout audiobook production from Hachette Audio, this was a fantastic listen! Highly recommend if you’re in the mood for a second-chance, fake dating, sports romance with emotional depth and mature characters!
Thank you to Hachette Audio and NetGalley for the ALC! All opinions are my own!

4⭐️ 1🌶️ 5🎧 This was a great book for second chances, self-reflection, and growing from our past mistakes. Mason and Gemma complemented each other so well and had such great chemistry and watching them grow closer was wonderful! Their slow burn was painful at times but was so worth it! The scene on the boat, so fun, hilarious, and swoony!
The 3rd act wasn’t a breakup, more of a hiccup that they were able to work through by having a conversation where they ultimately dug deep and figured it out. Miscommunication tropes are my least favorite, so when it was headed that way and didn’t follow through, I was so so happy!
This story was written in 3rd person but still had duet narration! Patricia Santomasso and Sean Patrick Hopkins did a great job bringing this story alive!

Gemma has just gotten out of messy marriage, and she's finally pursuing her interests. She finally managed to publish her first novel, even if she had to compromise a bit on her morals and exorcise her past a bit to get there.
Unfortunately, or not, the past in question
won't stay dead and actually shows up at her doorstep, and from then on the story just never stops. If you're expecting a book about a romance author to be cozy and homey maybe this is not the right fit, the pace is super tight, and while the mcs are trying and learning how to better comunicate it features quite a bit of, admittedly quickly resolved, misunderstandings. I liked all the themes and emotional depth in concept, it was just a bit too much all the time for me. A feeling heightened by the narrator switch for Mace's, considering that there is not much of it, I might have preferred to stick with one narrator, to keep the changes less jarring in an already action packed story. I also have one of the weirdest comments I've ever made, just a couple of times throughout the book Mace recieves a text, and it's signaled by an actual chime, I'm not sure why but it really stuck out as a little weird to me 😂.
The pacing means that it's a perfect one sitting read, captivating and always keeping you on your toes, but the very well done emotional parts don't really have time to shine.

⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️.5. Thanks to NetGalley for an ARC of this fun and sweet book. I did enjoy the story I just didn’t love it. I didn’t feel a connection to the female main character, maybe because I didn’t love the female narrator in the audiobook. A cross between enemies to lovers and second chance romance. Definitely a good easy beach read for the summer.

Loved this audiobook so much that I immediately bought the audiobook for Finding Mr. Write, even though I already own the paperback! What a fun story. I loved their chemistry. I loved Mason's growth. The flashback scenes were adorable.
Both of these narrators are new to me and I thought they both delivered perfectly! Highly recommend!

I love the story and how ut has been developed.
The narrators have been very good doing the voice and all the exclamation.

I recieved a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own. Thank you to Netgalley and Hatchette Audio for the copy!

⇒ I was so, so excited for this arc! The average rating was good and the hypnosis sounded like so much fun and the dual audio book was beautiful. This genuinely might be the best audiobook I've ever listened to. I'm not a big audiobook listener, but if you are I couldn't recommend this enough.
┊📚┊Gemma Stanson
I'm going to be honest, Gemma got on my nerves. She was so held up with her grudges that she refused to see the good in those around her. I just hate when main characters are so negative because I just don't vibe with being in that perspective.
┊🏒┊Mason Moretti
I actually liked Mason a lot. I'm not one to give people labels but my man totally had undiagnosed anxiety. His perspective was much more enjoyable than Gemma's. I enjoyed seeing his character arc unfold and I'm happy with the way it ended.

: ̗̀➛ After some debate on what I was going to rate this, I settled on a solid 2.75 🌟 because as fun as it was when I did listen to it, I never felt the urge to come back to it. The plot just didn't have me hooked and it could be slow or repetitive at times, like there were moments that had me feeling like the whole story was one big circle.
