4 🌟 This was such a fun spin on some of my favorite tropes. Gemma was such a strong character and I loved that she didn’t take Mason’s crap. She was able to point out his flaws but do it in a way he didn’t immediately get defensive but not baby him. Mason was so used to being the best at everything but was able to realize there were things he needed to work on. I feel like Gemma was able to find her confidence again after her controlling ex-husband because Mason was so open to working on himself with Gemma’s help. I loved that at the beginning of the story Mason didn’t hesitate to stand up for Gemma after an interview promoting her new book is going in the wrong direction due to a mean girl classmate turned mean girl talk show host trying to call out Gemma’s old crush. I feel like that really showed who Mason was. One of the highlights was the fact that Gemma and Mason talked through any issues they had. It was so refreshing to see such open communication and not conflicts being dragged out. I will definitely be looking for more books written by Kelley Armstrong.

Loved this book! I listened to the audiobook and the narrators were fantastic. I think my favorite part was the communication and how the MCs worked through things together. In the beginning I kept screaming in my head to go for it! Of course, they got there eventually and it was very very sweet!

Absolutely enjoyed this book! Loved the dual narration! Such a cozy contemporary romance read. Easy listen and easy to follow. I finished within a few days. Loved it!

I thought this was a fun idea that delved into deeper concepts that I didn’t expect. When the FMC Gemma publishes her first book, the man on the cover resembles a striking resemblance to her high school crush who after about first kiss turned “he only did it on a dare”, she happily avoided him at all cost. But the male character in her book, a brooding Scottish highland man with a less than charming personality and I hate everyone except this helpless virgin. This was, even subconsciously Gemma’s last middle finger toward the boy that broke her heart. Except when it’s revealed the MMC of her book is based on Mason now an NHL all star. They get brought back together, and decide they can use each other to bring positive attention both to Gemma’s new book and Masons career.
After a few bumps in the road, and perhaps good intentions but missed follow through. They go on a getaway together where cards are laid on the table.

I really liked the MMC and his dealing with avoidance. And how doing nothing is sometimes the wrong thing. I feel like he had a lot of growth towards the end of the book working towards confronting difficult things. But that was certainly spurred by the FMCs head on approach.

Overall, a cute read that I enjoyed more than I expected!

A writer and a hockey player, sign me up! This book was very good and the audiobook just enhanced the experience even more. The narrators were amazing with the emotion in this book and it had me hooked from beginning to end. I felt like the story was really believable and even though I am not the biggest hockey fan I still was able to enjoy the book because it defiantly focused on the relationship and not making the hockey parts super in your face. The sport was explained fairly well in the story from my limited knowledge. The struggles that the couple goes through seemed very real and the story just flowed nicely. Thanks NetGalley for the ARC of this book.

I was surprised that I enjoyed this story. I normally don't pick up the sports trope, but I really enjoyed these characters and the relationship that develops. The only reason I would not purchase this for our library is that I know the key romance audiobook audience in our area, and I don't believe this would check out well at our library. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who enjoys the sports romance trope.

Gemma is a romance writer who maybe kinda sorta used her first crush from high school as inspiration for the MMC in her latest novel. Which normally would not have been a big deal, except when that happens to be a very popular NHL hockey player and everyone knows it. She is outed on national TV and Mason is more than happy to take credit for the inspiration. He even suggests a fake dating situation (yes please!) but can Gemma forgive him for kissing her and leaving her to go hang out with his friends back in high school long enough to see he has changed?

Thank you to Netgalley for the ARC audiobook of Writing Mr. Wrong. I love duet narration and this book did not disappoint. The narrators did a great job. I thought this was a cute story. I felt like the ending was a bit far-fetched, and the 6 month epilogue was a little unbelievable/predictable. Overall the story kept me entertained and rooting for a HEA.

4⭐ 1🌶️

This book was so fun to listen to. The narrating was spot on. The premise of this book was just asking for a fun plot like this one. I love the high school sweethearts aspect and how all the MMC's misdemeanours came back to haunt him through a book written by the FMC. The inverted "not to be an ass" lessons were hilarious as were all the things that went wrong along the way.

Most of all, I loved that this was a redemption arc for a guy who really had no idea how his actions were impacting people. I also loved that it took the FMC to point it out but that he learnt from his mistakes. If only more men in our lives could learn from their mistakes!

Big thanks to NetGalley and Kelley Armstrong for a copy of this book. This is my honest opinion.

I listened to the ALC of Writing Mr. Wrong by Kelley Armstrong. This story is narrated by Patricia Santomasso; Sean Patrick Hopkins and they are perfectly cast in their roles. I was absolutely smiling and kicking me feet throughout this story. I loved the banter. The long held crush they both had, how the man who is an accidental asshole is really a good guy and wants our female protagonist to teach him how not to be an asshole. Gemma Stanton is in over her head. She has been crushing on Mason Moretti since high school. They kissed once, but then Mason was an asshold and broke her heart. Now she has written her debut novel, a romance, and the main character in the novel is based on Mason. She didn't think it is was obvious, but the high school mean girl invites both Gemma and Mason on her to show to launch the book, and Mason is such an expert at making it all about the book and how everyone should read the book that it really stops the mean girl in her tracks. I loved every minute of this read and the narrators were absolutely perfect!. Such a good time. Thank you to Net Galley and Hachette Audio for my ALC!

Writing Mr. Wrong is a fun rom-com audio book. Gemma has written her first book, based on her first crush, Mason. Mason is now a professional hockey player. She is invited to a morning talk show to discuss her book. Mason has been invited too but no one told Gemma. She was hoping no one would figure out that the main character was based on Mason when one of the mean girls from high school tells everyone watching the show.
Both parties grew throughout the novel and it was a fun resolution to the conflict.
The dual narrators were well done. This was a quick enjoyable listen.
Thank you to Kelley Armstrong, Netgalley and to Hachette Audio for providing me with an ALC.

Thank you NetGalley for this ARC!

I thought the characters were so fun. The development, and chemistry between them was amazing. I adored both characters and even the side characters.

I wasn't a huge fan of the plot in general as I found there were too many miscommunications or lack of communication in general, which is my least favourite. But the story still flowed nicely and actually made me laugh out loud. I loved the epilogue and thought the writing was great.

I have read many Kaley Armstrong mysteries but this was the first romance I have read and it didn’t disappoint! A fun and sometimes emotional story of childhood friends turned enemies turned? The tropes include fake dating, professional athlete mmc, second chances, maybe he falls first? Both main characters were in their 30s, which I loved. Mason could be a little childish at times but had such a big heart, and Gemma was afraid of getting burned again but pushed herself to take the risk.
This audiobook was so good I listened to it almost none-stop. The narration was well done and the story moved along nicely without a lot of filler. There is a little more spice than I have seen in her mysteries but it doesn’t take over the story. This was the perfect escape, great for a beach read, winter vacation read, or anytime you need to escape reality.

Overall, this was an easy, cute and feel good read. While I respect that the author was trying to make it known that the characters were establishing clear boundaries, what ultimately drove my rating down is that this teetered the line of overkill and drew away from the plot (very start stop feeling to the pacing).

Thank you Hachette Audio and NetGalley for the complimentary ALC of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Debut author Gemma releases a spicy romance book with a MMC based on her high school crush - Mason who is now a pro hockey player. Some readers put it together and now Gemma and Mason faking a relationship to promote her book and get his reputation back after a scandal.

I enjoyed that this book has more mature characters (in their mid 30s), the MMC was talking about his feelings and insecurities.

The narrators brought these characters to life and gave emotion and color to this story.

Writing Mr. Wrong immediately appealed to me in that it’s both a hockey romance and it’s a book about books.

Gemma is a romance author and when we meet her, she is promoting her debut novel, a novel where she has written the male lead to be a jerk, inspired by her first crush in high school, Mason Moretti, a now famous but aging hockey player.

When the cover art for the book is revealed, a mean girl from high school who now happens to anchor a talk show offers to help Gemma promote her book. What she doesn’t tell Gemma is that she recognizes Mason and because she clearly hasn’t outgrown her mean girl ways, decides to blindside Gemma on live TV by inviting Mason to her show as well.

Mason catches on to what Ms. Mean Girl is up to, thankfully, manages to turn what could have been a nightmare into a public lovefest for himself and Gemma instead, which then leads to their publicists suggesting some fake dating might help both of their careers.

I had such a good time with this story! I love fake dating and a second chance romance, and since Gemma and Mason clearly still had feelings of some sort for one another, I was dying to know what happened between them in high school to inspire Gemma to put him in her book the way she did.

I also loved that Mason read Gemma’s book since he knew he had inspired the male main character and that he actually learned from it. I already loved Gemma from the start, after learning that she was divorced and now making it on her own as an author, but Mason really stepped it up with some amazing character growth.

I just really enjoyed the way Armstrong wrote this relationship. They supported each other as they figured things out. It felt very healthy and had me rooting for them as a couple all the more.

Patricia Santomasso & Sean Patrick Hopkins narrate the audiobook and I enjoyed their performances because they really had me feeling the chemistry and the history between Gemma & Mason.

This was a light and fluffy listen. I loved the narration the duet was very well done. Both narrators did a very good job.

The story was interesting at the start, I loved the idea of a writer, second chance romance etc. it flowed well and I can see lots of people enjoy this.

I did however end up not liking both of the characters by the end. Even though mason had a lot of growth he was still narcassistic and Insensitive. Although he did have the best character arc. Gemma was not very likeable. She was so harsh and held a high school grudge for so long. It was very high school indeed.

I wish Gemma also grew more and leaned that she can be too hard on mason. The third act also was so fast it just happened and bam the end. Maybe a bit too fast.

The spicy scene was also a little awkward. I think it could have been written better and with more passion.

It was a fun and cute story, the narration made it easy to binge listen in 24h and I am sure many people will enjoy it.

Writing Mr Wrong by Kelley Armstrong
Contemporary romance, romantic comedy.
Post-divorce and assessing her life, Gemma writes a romance book using her nemesis as the self absorbed and rude hero. No one is supposed to know he’s based on a famous hockey player but she’s called out on national tv by a petty former school mate. Mason Moretti has alway had a crush on Gemma and is happy to meet up with her again. Reading the book helps explain his image problem isn’t limited to the sports world. He proposes they work together to help her book sales while also working on his interactions with fans and press. Spending time together should help both their careers. And maybe their relationship?

🎧 I alternated between an ebook and an audiobook which was narrated by Patricia Santomasso and Sean Patrick Hopkins in a duet narration. The performances were fantastic with emotions clearly heard from antagonism, hurt and worry through love and happiness. The two voices were matched well in decibels and modulation so I didn’t have to change volume or speed. Seamless performance. I did listen to this at 1.5 and slightly higher so that I could read along with the ebook and not be a dozen pages ahead.

I know a duet narration is costly and takes more time for the artists but in this case it was worth it. I listened once and immediately restarted the book which is rare for me. The two did a wonderful job of keeping my interest and drawing me into their story.
Mason really wants to change and do better. He continues to ask questions and analyze his own behavior and how it may look. Impressive growth for anyone.

A favorite author and while I enjoy the suspense and other genres, this romantic comedy and the prior, Finding Mr. Write, hit the sweet spot for me with romance, humor and a hero to swoon over.

I received a copy of this from NetGalley, and publisher Hachette Audio. I also purchased a copy to keep.

Super cute characters who have a second chance thanks to a former classmate with cruel intentions.
I love a man who can admit when he's wrong and ::gasp:: learn from his mistakes. Emotional maturity for the win.

The spicy scenes were good, fairly standard, not excessive or gratuitous.

It would make a really cute movie... I'd cast Emmy Rossum with her curly hair, and Zach Efron as the main characters with someone catty like Kristin Cavallari as the high school "friend"/talk show host.

Thank you to Net Galley and Hachette Audio for the audiobook.
