Gemma has had a lot going on in her life. When her first book, post-divorce, gets published-Lots of speculation surrounds of who this main character is based off of. Especially after the TV talk show was comparing it to the hottest and latest NHL rise to fame Mason Moretti- who also happens to be someone Gemma went to high school with.
Will these two be able to get through their “reunion-cute” or will their past high school drama get in the way of Gemma being able to Write Mr. Write or Wrong?

Writing Mr. Wrong was very cute! I thought the narrators did a wonderful job bringing the characters to life. My only qualm with the acting of this audiobook is I felt there was not enough differentiation in tone of voice to the flashbacks to their teen years. I would zone out a little while listening and when I payed attention again, I could hardly tell that we were in a different time period and felt lost until something in the dialogue clued me in.
Overall the story was very cute and I love a good second chance romance. Sometimes Mason Moretti was a little too unlikeable. It took a good 2/3rds into the book for me to buy into him and at the end I still wasn't fully convinced. Still a cute read overall though.

Thank you Net galley for the advanced copy of this audiobook. This was a fun easy read. Second chance and fake romance tropes are always enjoyable. Romance writer writing about an ex who is an infamous hockey player. Great read to take to the beach also a fun narration as it is dual and keeps you engaged throughout.

I think I’m becoming a sucker for a second chance romance, and this book was one of the best I’ve read lately!
The characters feel like real people, and their relationship brings out some pretty serious topics that are handled well (divorce, abuse, panic attacks) and really add to the story.
All in all, this is a great read with lots of laughs, quick wit, and a sweet reconnection!
Thank you to the author and Hachette Audio for my advance copy!

Writing Mr. Wrong – around 4.5 stars, rounding up
Gemma and Mason Moretti have known each other since elementary school. Gemma is a recently divorced romance writer and Mason is an NHL hockey star. Loved the writing and characters. Their banter was perfect. (“You have a bathroom nearly as big as my bedroom, a massive shower and a massive tub. Who needs both?” “Mason Moretti” “Hate you!” “The word is envy Gem. You are a writer, words are important.” “Also you have a room for a motorcycle.”)
I also especially loved the grandmothers in this book; there were three older women … all were absolutely precious. The dialogue between Gemma and her grandmother Dot on the way to a hockey game was wonderful (had me laughing to no end!)
Listened to the audio book, wonderfully narrated by Patricia Santomasso and Sean Patrick Hopkins.
Many thanks to NetGalley and publishers Hachette Audio | Forever for approving my request to listen to the advance read copy of Writing Mr. Wrong in exchange for an honest review. Publication date is June 24, 2025. Approx 8 hour, 45 min

This was such a fun audio book! I loved the narrator's and I think they truly helped bring the main characters to life. Like Gem, I truly hope that #KellyArmstrong has another book like this up her sleeve because I may be new to her books but #WritingMrWrong will only be my first, not my last. Unattainable sports figure reunites with the high school crush that got away... YES PLEASE.

LIKED:
- We 👏 Love a 👏 Duet 👏 Audiobook 👏
- The themes of a superstar athlete “aging out” of the sport they have known and loved for the majority of their lives (and feeling like that’s all they know slash don’t think they matter for anything else) will always be a trope I’m drawn to, and I think this book was successful in that exploration.
- I liked Gemma as a FMC and found her pretty relatable. I’m wondering if I had read Finding Mr. Write if I would have appreciated her even more.
- Mason was fun. I wish he had had a bit more substance to him, but I think he was still fun to listen to for sure.
- Gemma’s grandma was the best character and getting only one scene was a crime.
- I like the layers of the title. Stellar pun work.
LAMENTED:
- This is going to sound maybe a bit callous, but I think this audiobook is better executed than the book itself. Having a duet narrated audiobook is truly just so deeply enjoyable that the book itself matters less than the excitement of that experience. That’s not to say that this book is bad, by any means, but…it’s much more uninteresting than the read performance.
- The main drama of why they broke up/he broke her heart in high school is SO FLIMSY. Like, yes, as a teenager, this would leave a pretty lasting impact and I’m glad he’s come to terms with how much he hurt her, but his friend, who he tells, as an adult, what he did…thinks it’s like the worst thing ever done? No. There needed to be more to it.
- The pacing of the story was odd. There’s this fake dating/PR stunt bit, but then they spend a chunk of it on vacation without cameras and I couldn’t tell where the focus was meant to be in regards to plot.
- I needed so much more hockey. I know it’s not…really a hockey romance. But it also is and I wanted more.
-I really like the colors of the cover…but not what it’s trying to broadcast. Like we barely get any hockey and not a lot of Gemma’s story for it to really be about her thinking up Mason playing hockey in a kilt. But I know that’s just being pedantic.
LONGED FOR:
- More of Gemma’s grandma. One scene was definitely not enough.
- More hockey
- A more substantial reason as to their past drama and why it was so problematic (when it really wasn’t that bad)
Will I read the next one? : Well, I’m absolutely going to listen to Finding Mr. Write if it is also a duet narration, let me tell you what.
*Thank you to Forever and Hachette & NetGalley for providing this ARC!

This is a first by this author and the blurb is what caught my attention because it’s a cute premise and I’ll be honest it didn’t go how I anticipated but even better.
Writing Mr. Wrong was super cute! I really enjoyed the history between Gemma and Mason and loved when they finally admitted having feelings for each other all along. What begins as a fake-dating scenario to improve publicity for Gemma’s book and Mason’s public image, slowly becomes something more. I will definitely recommend this.
The duet narration was great! These narrators were perfect and really brought the story to life.
Thank you to Hachette Audio and Netgalley for this ALC

Oh Kelley, is there anything you cannot write? Romance, thrillers, fantasy, teen, middle-grade, and they are all great books!
I love Gemma and Mason; they are both so clueless about their feelings, until of course it finally clicks for them both. This was a fun and light romance and I am hoping that Kelley writes more romance stories in the future.
Patricia Santomasso and Sean Patrick Hopkins did a great job narrating this story.

This book was a light and easy read. I didn’t feel a lot of connection or romance between the MCs, but enough to keep me in the story. I always like the second chance romance trope, and needed to hear why it didn't work the first time. It had a mental health reasoning behind it that I would have loved to see worked through more on page.
I listened to the audiobook, and really enjoyed the narrators. Plus, it's a duet narration. For both those reasons, I barely realized it was written in third person POV which I normally don't enjoy as much. I definitely recommend this book in audiobook form! And I will definitely be checking out what else these narrators have done.
Thank you to NetGalley and Hachette Audio for this ARC 🤍 All opinions are my own.

super cute fake-dating romance with just the right amount of tension and sweetness. Total comfort read with hockey, second chances, and great banter.

4.5
Thank you to NetGalley for the audiobook 💚
I loved this book the characters felt real, the MMC Mason kept making mistakes and instead of ignoring them completely he made up for them
The FMC Gemma would not put up with him not apologizing or explaining why he was acting the way he was
The narrators were amazing and made the characters feel even more real can't wait to read another one of her books

How I love a good audio narration! This audio book was so great. The story was funny, sweet, and sexy. The dual narrators did such a great job bringing this story to life. Second chance romance, fake dating, and force proximity all into one! Jemma, romance author, used professional hockey player and old friend Mason as her muse for her romance. So they fake date and realize that Mason needed some lessons on being a good boyfriend. Is Jemma willing to put their past aside to help Mason? This book was a great big happy sigh...........

This was so cute. It was formulaic and tropey in all the right ways and even though I wanted more depth from Gemma (dont ask me how, I do not know), I felt really light and happy whilst listening to this.
The narrators were fantastic and loved the dual parts took production where each actor spoke their lines. Really enjoyable book from ann author I’ve loved a long time.

I had a great time with this audiobook. It's helped my commute much easier and there were times when I would wait until the last possible second to find out what was going to happen next before had to run out of my car and get to work.
This was a light cute romance. The narrator were engaging and did well voicing the characters.
I enjoyed that both characters had issues of their own to work on and it wasn't just one of the characters was perfect and the other was not. Like Gemma dealing with her previous marriage and how it had changed her. And Mason with his father issues. There are some serious topics and I thought the author did a good job portraying it in the story. honestly I would probably read a longer version with more details into their past lives.
The miscommunication trope has been one of my least favorite tropes lately and I did think this is where we would end up in the story but I did love how both Gemma and Mason near the end didn't let the miscommunication cause issues and stayed to work it out together.
On Masons story, I was actually super interested in the Mason and Denny relationship and I get the book is a romance so not the focus but I would be interested in seeing more of that.
I did feel like both characters were a bit immature as adults and didn't really change much from high school when we saw the flashbacks.
Overall it's a quick read/listen and many would find this very enjoyable. It was a bit in the middle for me.
Thanks to Netgalley and Hachette Audio for the ALC.

Author Gemma Stanton hasn't written in years, but after her divorce, she's ready to dive back into the world of romance. After her original pitch doesn't land, she's convinced that it's because no one wants to read about her nice-guy heroes, Gemma knows she needs to flip the switch and write about the absolute Mr. Wrong. The only problem? Her Mr. Wrong is based on her first crush, Mason Moretti. When the two of them reunite after the book's publication and go viral, Mason can't help but propose a media-worthy fake dating to help her book
As an NHL enforcer, Mason's fallen into some hot water of his own after failing to defend one of his team members while on the ice. Not only will this PR stunt help out Gemma's new book, but he's hoping it will take the focus off his misstep. I enjoyed the connection between Gemma and Mason, and it was interesting to watch them reconnect after spending years apart. Gemma isn't sure what to take from the experience, and has a harder time letting herself open up to Mason as they bond. We know that they shared a moment when they were younger, but in typical fashion, Mason denied the whole event.
My perception of Mason changed over the novel. It was nice seeing how he changed the more he spent with Gemma; he turned to her for help in becoming a better version of himself after an unfortunate incident during a night out. I was also a fan of the communication skills between these two; there was a lot of conflict in the book, but every issue was solved by them chatting. Although I enjoyed the book overall, I had a harder time with the ending, as a lot of the events seemed far-fetched, and it took away from the vulnerability of our characters and changed the tone of the novel.

I want to thank Hachette Audio | Forever, Kelley Armstrong, and NetGalley for an advanced audio copy in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own. Writing Mr. Wrong by Kelley Armstrong was published on June 25th, 2025, and you can order your physical or audio copy version today!

After her divorce, Gemma finally spreads her wings and writes a romance novel, with her high school crush, now an NHL enforcer, as the inspiration for her villain. When people figure it out and their reunion goes viral, Mason suggests a fake dating scheme to fix both their reputations. Cue close quarters, unresolved feelings, and a whole lot of chaos.
Tropes:
🥈Second chance romance
🥰 fake dating
❎forced proximity
✍🏽hockey player x writer
🏒he falls first
I was lucky enough to get an audiobook ARC of Writing Mr. Wrong, and I absolutely loved it! Thank you to NetGalley. The duet narration was fantastic and it really brought the characters to life. The writing style was fresh and engaging. This felt like the perfect summer read.
I loved that Gemma was a writer and Mason was a hockey player, it gave that cozy hockey romance vibe I enjoy so much. And honestly? The way she became the center of his world melted me. Mason never gave up on the idea of being with her, and I loved how he kept trying to grow and become a better man—not just for her, but because of her.
While there was a bit of miscommunication between them, they actually talked things through like adults, which made the ending feel that much more earned. I also really appreciated seeing the sweet friendship slowly redevelop between them, it grounded the romance and made their HEA so satisfying.

With the sheer number of hockey romances out there, I expected this one to stand out a bit more. Unfortunately, it didn’t feel unique and ended up being pretty forgettable. I enjoyed the overall story, but Gemma and Mason’s relationship felt flat, like it was trying to cram too many tropes into one book without really developing any of them.
What kept me going was the audiobook. The narrators were fantastic, and I loved that it was a duet performance—that alone made it worth finishing.
Gemma’s journey from her controlling, doughcanoo of an ex-husband to reclaiming her identity was a strong point. I appreciated her growth and how she started to truly figure out what she wanted.
That said, the miscommunication trope used here really didn’t work for me. It felt forced—like it existed solely to create drama. I mean, you're in your thirties—just talk to each other!
₊˚ෆ Thank you, NetGalley, and Hachette Audio | Forever. #WritingMrWrong #NetGalley. ₊˚ෆ

I found this book utterly delightful! Writing Mr. Wrong by Kelley Armstrong had me laughing with the humor packed in this. Right off the bat Gemma is just like me in so many ways and I found her character loveable. Mason took some time for me to warm up too- but when he did it was sweet.
I loved the dual narration in Writing Mr. Wrong. It made the story so easy to follow and it was just a joy to listen to while out and about. I did think the 3rd person POV was a little difficult to follow, but listening to the story instead of reading it helped me a ton. What I didn't love about Writing Mr. Wrong was the repetitive phrases: his orange and clove scent, the explanation of how he got his name, and 'well, he's Mason Moretti" it just felt like every other page it was saying one of these things.
I LOVED the age of these characters. Being in their late 30's progressed this story beautifully. There was no huge sense of miscommunication and when there was they just talked it out- no breaking up/ fighting uselessly. It was such a good touch.
I absolutely adored this story & the narration. It's definitely a 4 star read for me! And if you love rom coms, hockey players and authors, and most importantly characters that know how to deal with their issues: this book is the one for you.
Thank you to Forever & Grand Central Publishing for the ALC of this book!

We have Gemma, a newly divorced woman, who decides to write romance books with a… useless protagonist. So for her debut book, she uses her ex-high school crush (Mason) as the inspiration for the male lead, but since he's a hockey star, someone notices that "inspiration," and they end up reuniting years later. He offers to fake date her to help with the publicity for her book, and she offers to help him with his attitude.
Let's see, Mason isn't a bad person, and you're going to love the protagonist's redemption arc. Going from thinking the protagonist is useless to making you love him 100% is difficult, and the author pulls it off. We usually see "redemption arcs" in fantasy books, but why not in romance books? It adds more tension to the story.
I really loved the story, the main characters have great chemistry together and all the supporting characters are amazing, they contribute so much to the story.
I also want to talk about how incredibly narrated it is. It has two voice actors: one for Gemma, the female protagonist, and another for Mason, the male protagonist. That alone makes the audiobook great, but their voices! Incredible, pure perfection. I felt every emotion through their words.
One detail I really liked, and one I'd never heard before in any other audiobook, was that they added a message sound ("ding") every time the conversation was via text message. It made it much easier to understand that it wasn't a dialogue anymore, but a message. So 10,000 points for the production.
Tropes:
* sports romance
* Second chance romance
* Kinda slow burn
* Redemption arc
This books is a basic English level, so if you're learning English, this book is perfect. It doesn't have a Spanish translation yet.
