I remember reading Tuck Everlasting by Natalie Babbitt when I was young so I was really glad to listen to this new audiobook special 50th anniversary edition narrated by Alexis Bledel. I remember back then thinking this book dealt with adult themes and it’s great to revisit the theme of death and immortality as an adult too. Totally almost made me cry rereading this! The narration was excellent and the new introduction from Gabrielle Zevin was insightful. After reading this book it makes me want to revisit some other books from my childhood and found I had a copy of Babbitt’s other book Kneeknock Rise. I love that this new edition can reach new young readers today.

Thank you for an advanced copy of the 50th anniversary edition!

Alexis Bledel was our beloved Winnifred in the movie, and she’s back as the narrator! I loved hearing her voice and hearing her bring the story back to life again.

This is a timeless book. I first read it 25 years ago, and I absolutely loved it. Here I am now doing a reread, and I still love it. It’s a book every young person should read.

This anniversary audiobook made my heart so happy. Revisiting one of my favorite stories as a kid and having it narrated by the actress who played the main character in the film (another one of my favorites) was so beautifully nostalgic. It’s amazing to see how the story affects me differently than it did when I was younger. Tuck Everlasting is a timeless story that has a beautiful message about the circle of life, and I’m glad that the publisher is able to re-release it so that the story can be loved by new audiences.

I have had this book on my TBR list for so many years. I really wasn't sure what to expect when going into this story. I absolutely loved this. The quirky characters, the marvelous story telling, and the amazing narration all made this a 5 star audiobook.

Excitingly, a new 50th-anniversary edition is on the horizon, narrated by Alexis Bledel, who played Winnie in the 2002 film adaptation. She described the experience as “a wonderful journey back into a tale that challenges us to think about what it truly means to live a meaningful life.”

If you're drawn to stories that blend gentle fantasy with deep philosophical questions—and especially if you enjoy audiobooks that feel like a cozy fireside read—Tuck Everlasting is a gem. Would you like help finding where to listen to either version? Or maybe you're curious how it compares to other historical fiction audiobooks you’ve enjoyed?

Alexis Bledel narrates the 50th anniversary edition of Tuck Everlasting by Natalie Babbitt. This is an absolute millennial fever dream. I loved the note at the beginning of the book which really highlighted the impact of the book by Gabrielle Zevin when you read it as a child. Because reading Tuck Everlasting as an adult has a totally different impact.

Overall, it’s a quick listen, the narration is amazing. I’m glad they did this project.

Thanks to Macmillan audio for the audio ARC and NetGalley.

As a child, I loved Tuck Everlasting. The book taught me about life and death (the wheel) and the movie taught me about young love and making choices for yourself, not for others. As an adult, re-reading Tuck Everlasting gives me a sense of nostalgia, but also a sprinkle of childlike wonder.

As a child, I felt Winnie was relatable. As an adult, I feel she is such a believable child and it is easy to be drawn into her world. Every time I enjoy watching her grow from a rather spoiled girl to a brave girl that puts others before herself after her time spent with the Tuck's.

For all of us that learned about life and death and crushes and villains and toads from Tuck Everlasting, hearing it read by Winnie all grown up is an emotional experience. I started tearing up as she began reading the very first line. Thanks to Alexis Bledel for narrating this, it is truly a nostalgic and heartwarming experience.

Oh, how this made my nostalgic heart so happy. I grew up with this story and have nothing but love for it, and nothing has changed as I got older.
With this audiobook, firstly, you get a wonderful forward by Gabrielle Zavin, author of Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow, who beautifully puts into words what this book means to people. And then we have Alexis Bledel narrating the book. For those who don’t know, Bledel played Winnie in the movie over twenty years. That adds to the beauty and the nostalgia of the story. There’s something beautiful about hearing an older Winnie Foster narrating her story. She’s wonderful and, as always, the book is wonderful. Everyone, old and young, should read or listen to this book.

I remember many people read the book, Tuck Everlasting, when I was younger. I remember my siblings watching the movie when it released. I would wait to watch it until after I read the book myself. Always read the book before the movie and all. I have kids of my own now. My nephew was recently in the musical, Tuck Everlasting. 23 years after the release of the movie, 50 years after the book released (while I have been aging myself some in this review, my pride wants to put in that I am younger than the book), I jumped at the chance to listen to an advance reader copy of the audio version of Tuck Everlasting, celebrating its 50th anniversary.
I loved it as much as I expected to and more. Having heard people talk about it here and there I had some preconceived ideas of what would happen in the book. Many were correct, but the story took place in a way that I had not expected. It is beautiful and powerful and sad and hopeful. I agree with the thoughts of Gabrielle Zevin in the forward for this edition. Death is an important topic that we need to talk to our children about. This is a beautiful way to introduce the topic and have profound discussions, hopefully before the stark reality of death hits the child in a very personal way.
This audio version with Alexis Bledel is perfect. I believe she perfectly captures the essence of Winnie. If you have loved Tuck Everlasting or if you have never experienced the joy of this book, have a listen to this short 3 hour audio version soon. Preferably sooner than 25 years from now, for that is far too long for this treasure of a piece of literature to sit on a ‘to be read shelf.’ Now, I think I will go and watch the movie.

Let me paint you a lil picture:
- Read and loved this as a kid
- Saw and loved the movie as a kid (Jonathan Jackson really was the perfect Jesse)
- Rewatched the movie as an adult and was like hm is this creepy or no
- Fell in love with the story again as an adult thanks to this beautifully done audiobook

In the 50th anniversary edition of Tuck Everlasting we get to once again experience the story of Winnie Foster and her time with the Tuck family, who have discovered the life-changing power of a hidden spring. Alexis Bledel played Winnie in the 2002 movie, and her narration here brings the story to life beautifully. She perfectly captures the magic and whimsy, as well as the more serious commentary on immortality. The addition of the music (a key element to the story!) was a delightful surprise, and the perfect final touch that made this an exceptional audiobook.

I can wholeheartedly recommend this to those who already know and love the story. For those who don’t already know and love it, I’m not sure how the story will work for you, but feel free to try it out and let me know!

Thank you to Macmillan Audio and NetGalley for the ALC in exchange for my honest review!

I think I missed the target age for this story as I didn’t read it as a child/tween and never saw the movie. I was intrigued because THE Rory Gilmore was narrating and I know she was Winnie in the movie.

For me this book falls flat but that’s probably because I’m seeing it through 41 year old eyes without the benefit of nostalgia.

When 10-year-old Winnie stumbles on a family she has never seen before, she learns their secret for living an eternal life.
The 50th anniversary of this young adult classic comes alive being narrated by Alexis Bledel. Bledel is the main character in the 2002 movie version. What a great way to celebrate this book.

I remember seeing the trailer for this movie in 2002 and wanting to read the book right away. I ran to the local Walmart and bought the book and devoured it. I loved the book. I was so excited to see the movie with Jonathan Jackson and Alexis Bledel. I was obsessed with Gilmore Girls.

The narration of this book with Alexis Bledel is amazing. I loved this book just the same as the first time I read it. I loved the cozy fantasy with magical aspects. this is a must read. a wonderful story about life and death.

Tuck Everlasting is a story that.I somehow missed as a child. I remember when the movie came out and I didn't even watch that. Boy, did I miss out! Don't let that happen to you! This is a great book about life and death. It is a very thought provoking story. It is for upper elementary, but I would read it even with high school students to discuss some of the complex themes. I listened to the audiobook, and the narrator was perfect.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an audio ARC. This did not impact my review of the book. I thoroughly loved it and had no idea that it was 50 years old! It is definitely a classic.

This was so nostalgic to hear!! The narration was done so well and having Alexis be the narrator/Winnie was like watching the film as a pre-teen all over again.

I recently listened to the 50-year anniversary audio edition of "Tuck Everlasting" by Natalie Babbitt, and I’m so glad I finally experienced this classic. Somehow, I missed it as a child, but I found that it absolutely holds up for adult readers (and listeners) as well.

The story is beautifully written, with a gentle, almost lyrical quality that makes the world of Winnie Foster and the mysterious Tuck family come alive. The narration in this anniversary edition was excellent. It was engaging, warm, and perfectly paced, which made the listening experience even more enjoyable.

What struck me most is how the book tackles big questions about life, death, and the meaning of immortality in a way that’s accessible but never condescending. The book’s central dilemma (i.e., whether living forever is a blessing or a curse) gave me a lot to think about, and I can see why it’s resonated with generations of readers.

The characters are memorable and well-drawn, especially the Tuck family, who are both magical and heartbreakingly human. Winnie’s journey is relatable, and her choices feel real and meaningful. There’s a sense of wonder and melancholy woven throughout the story that I really appreciated. Especially considering it was written for children. Babbitt did an excellent job of balancing these more "adult" themes with the whimsy that all great childhood books have.

If I have one small critique, it’s that the pacing can feel a bit slow at times, and some plot points are resolved rather quickly. Still, these are minor issues in what is otherwise a beautifully crafted classic.

Overall, I’m so glad I finally discovered this story that literally every other reader in my life has already read. Haha. It’s a thoughtful, enchanting book perfect for readers of all ages, and the anniversary audiobook edition is a wonderful way to experience it. Highly recommend! Thanks, Netgalley, for providing me with this wonderful ARC. <3

This was one of my favorite books from my childhood, and when I saw there was a new audiobook edition coming out narrated by Alexis Bledel I was so excited. Listening to this made me disappointed that Alexis Bledel does not work as an audiobook narrator, and a hope that she will start. I feel like she was a close second to my favorite audiobook narrator, Rosamund Pike. (seriously, I would buy any book she narrates!!!)

There is a reason this is a children's classic. The way children's books help us grapple with the weight of serious things for the first time, like death and the cycle of life, will always endear certain stories to us.

Tuck Everlasting is a beautiful book that hasn't lost its impact or importance in 50 years. I am so glad I got to revisit this story more than 25 years after I fell in love with it the first time.

For anybody who loved this as a kid, I highly recommend this new audiobook!

Thanks to NetGalley and MacMillan Audio for the digital copy of this book; I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Let me just start with this: Tuck Everlasting and Bridge to Terabithia are my two favorite books from childhood, first read in fifth grade, assigned by my favorite teacher of all time. So, when I saw that there would be a graphic novel adaptation, I knew I had to check it out.

I’m so happy that this audiobook is being re-published in celebration of Natalie Babbitt’s book, which celebrates the 50th anniversary since it was published. It’s still being taught in schools, too, as my children can attest. It’s a wonderful novel with many lessons that children should learn, and for reluctant readers, the graphic novel is a door into the world of Winnie Foster and the Tucks.

Alexis Bledel, who played Winnie Cooper in the movie adaptation, narrates the book. She did a great job. I'm surprised I haven't run across her narrating of other books, because she is very adept. It was probably a one-off when the film came out, with an updated introduction honoring the 50th anniversary.

Revisiting one of my favorite books was such a delight. The audiobook was so good and the story was just as engaging as I remembered. I loved every minute of it.

4 stars

I first encountered this book in grade school when a classmate's parent came and read it aloud to us. Because of the added fanfare and the absolutely wild and impactful storyline, I remember a lot of details about this one clearly, including being absolutely terrified that an old man in the body of a 17-year-old might trick me one day.

It was a solid 25 years later when I encountered this book again in print, and in the last few weeks, I've had the chance to read it in two more formats: a graphic novel and now this audiobook. I appreciate this book more each time I read it and as I encounter it at different stages in my life.

This is one of those children's books that shocks folks based on the central motif: death vs. immortality. I love how Babbitt focuses not on the pain of loss, though that's certainly a component, but on the joy of living fully in the time one has. Winnie has choices, and her choices, as well as others' responses to them, tell readers everything we need to know about what seems appealing and what is best in reality.

This book does rip my guts out every time I read it, but it remains an absolute banger. Read with caution. This one is bound to stay with you.
