This is book one of the Cruel Shifterverse Series. It ends on a cliffhanger.

Reading Psycho Shifters was entertaining, but listening to it, brought it to another level! I love duet audiobooks! But a different narrator for each character? YES PLEASE!!!

Jasmine Mas is a new to me author but her world building is great! I was invested in the FMC, Sadie, from the beginning. She’s got a past she wants to keep hidden and now she’s thrown into the limelight, as the first female Alpha. We get little POVs of the MMCs; Jax, Cobra and Ascher. I can’t wait to learn more about these Alphas and their past! Looking forward to continuing the series!

If you love paranormal, slow burn, reverse harem, dark & broody, bully romance, then this book is for you!

This was such a fun audiobook! I was sucked in and loved that I was immediately thrown into the story! I am a sucker for male narrators and this did not disappoint! I immediately downloaded the second book and wanted to know what happened after the twist at the end.

Let me just start off by mentioning that I have the audiobook. The narrating cast brought the book and characters to life and I continued to read/listen solely because of the narrators.

Psycho Shifter by Jasmine Maas may not have been a literary masterpiece but it was ENTERTAINING.

Quotes:
“Emotional support? It’s much healthier to repress emotions and ignore red flags.”
“The little alpha was a fucking survivor, and I would ensure no one ever hurt her again.”

Sadie — small (we are told this a million times). She’s a shifter recruit just trying to survive military-style training and maybe not get idk .. killed. Her three 6’5 psycho roommates/ fellow alphas; Jax, Ascher, and Cobra. They’re horned, tattooed, jeweled, aggressive, and psychotic. And yes, they share(reverse harem).

What starts as a bully romance quickly spirals into full-on Omega-verse madness full of power struggles, pack dynamics, mate bonds, and intense MMFM (also MMM). There's spice and plenty of emotional damage.

Let’s be real: Sadie’s inner voice was often immature. The repetition of “I’m small, I’m underestimated” felt like déjà vu if you’ve read Blood of Hercules by the same author — in fact, Sadie feels like a straight-up clone of Alexis. If you’re someone who prefers your main characters to be more Badass FMC than “sarcastic high school girl with a god complex,” *chuckles uncomfortably* this isn't that.

She's so aware of her weaknesses, makes fun of herself constantly, has a good dose of insecurity, hates her depressing life, recognizes that she's miserable but just rolls with it, and she sucks at running. Also when the NULL is on all i can picture is Kristen Stuart in Twilight.. emotionless and just blah! In the audiobook, her voice actress made me enjoy the book although she actually sounded like Sophia Bush (Brook- One Tree Hill).

Also… the guys? Were screaming RED flags. The behavior is feral. But that was expected from a shapeshifter Alpha! And the guys so MEAN to her lmao (this is a BULLY academy romance) and the things they would say given her actual life was so also expected but still annoying! **insert eye roll**

The guys were your typical misogynistic pricks in many ways. For starters, they accepted Ascher into their Alpha group just a year ago, (probably because he was a man) but were so suspicious of Sadie ( because she was a woman..... quite literally it says that in the book!). They thought she was a spy (women haven't been alphas like EVER!)

But Sadie was the first female alpha ever. She had white hair, she was tiny especially compared to all these jumbo-sized alphas and betas. She stood out to say the least. *** which i had my theories about but decided to just let it all go and enjoy the story***

But despite the chaos and the aggressive eye-rolls where I said “what am I even listening to,” I was enjoying the story. This book was HIGHLY entertaining. Listening to it helped me ignore the confusion in the writing and "world building" and "lore" and it allowed me to enjoy the storytelling.

As I kept listening and got an insight into other characters I realized who could have actually been a spy ..... if you pay attention to what the characters say you could see where i got that assumption but i just ignored it and continued to listen.

But I was here for the laughs and the romance and bully possessive alphas and this book DELIVERED.

I'm actually looking forward to finishing the series. (audiobook version of course).

If you have been on the fence about reading this book because of ratings or reviews online.... remember reading is subjective and not everyone is going to enjoy the same things regardless if you have the same taste in book as others or not. This book isn't a life/mind altering experience, but it is entertainment ..... so idk I think it's worth giving a try, just lower your expectations and remember you're here for the fun not the mental stimulation.

Thanks to NetGalley and Harlequin Audio for the gifted audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

POV: 1st Person, 4 POV’s
New Adult: FMC - 20
🎧5/5!!!!

To start off, thank you NetGalley & Harleyquin Audio for the opportunity to listen to this ALC of Psycho Shifters Book 1!

This Contemporary Romantasy was amazing! But not only in the story 👩‍🍳💋 but this full duet-styled cast narration was AMAZING!!

Narrated by Mollie Stark, Jaime Lincoln Smith, Teddy Hamilton and Jeremy York, I mean, come on! These voices hit all the spots!

When you usually think of shifters, we are thinking werewolves but that is not the case here! They all have different shift form which was so refreshing!

Now comes the debate of jumping into book 2 via KU or waiting for the next audiobook!!

WHAT DO I DO???

Spicy Chapters: 10, 15, 26 & 27

I picked this up as the audio duet arc and loved it so much I had to run and get a copy for my shelf.

This is a dark why choose romantasy. Our FMC, Sadie is funny and resilient…like there’s nothing she can’t survive and nothing she won’t do to protect her baby sister (which I love). The banter is witty and the audio narration so has been top notch.

This would be perfect for fans of the Never List and The Dragon Shifters Mate.

Love this and cannot wait to get to the rest of the series I also loved this narrator. This is a book that held my attention.

Normally, I am uncertain about shifter romance, but this one charmed me on the strength of the characters and the fun, bantery dialogue. It reminded me of the early works of my all time fantasy romance favorite, Sherrilyn Kenyon (McQueen).

I enjoyed the vocal performances, each voice distinct and identifiable. The readings were well performed and emotional when they needed to be, no flat readings or irritating droning on and on.

Thank you, NetGalley for letting me listen to this ALC.

Book: Psycho Shifters by Jasmine Mas
Genre: Romantasy, Reverse Harem/Why Choose, Omegaverse
Rating: 4 stars!
Audio Narration: 5 stars!

Thank you to Netgalley and Harlequin Audio for an advanced listening copy of this book in exchange for an honest review!

From being in the book community for some time, most people will either love Jasmine Mas’ writing style, or they’ll hate it. She has a very distinct voice and someone could probably hand me a short story with no author attached, and I’d be able to identify it as her.

I was looking forward to this book, but also a little unsure. I read Blood of Hercules previously and, while I didn’t mind the “inner voice”/way Mas delivers the story, I struggled with that story having so many stream of consciousness types of scenes that I wasn’t really sure how time was passing. Psycho Shifters does not suffer from this. The start of this book did, however, feel very similar to Blood of Hercules, but it started to deviate as the story continued.

I think it is best to enter into this book expecting a fun, easy read. If you struggle with inner monologue, you will not like this book. If you’re expecting a ton of spice, you will not like this book (but more spice is on the way, if you’re patient). If you struggle with words being repeated (i.e. SJM’s “watery bowels” or “picking off invisible lint”), you will not like this.

This book is an amazing book to sandwich between heavier reads. It isn’t overly complicated, it is to the point, and will have you laughing and not thinking too hard. If you can listen to the audio, I highly recommend it. The FMC, Sadie, spends a lot of time talking to herself in her head, and the narrator does an excellent job delivering the emotions and humor to this one-way-exchange between Sadie and herself. This is also duet narration and our male narrator is wonderful.

I loved this book and I loved this audio book! I've already suggested it to my friends ten times over!

Psycho Shifters Audiobook
✨3/5

Thank you to Harlequin Audio and NetGalley for the ALC! This book had so much going on, I’m SUPER glad I went the audiobook route to read it. And I’m also SUPER glad it featured unique voices for each main character with duet narration. That really helped me keep it clear which POV I was in and who was speaking. If I were rating this just on the audiobook production, it’d be a 5/5.

The story itself wasn’t as strong for me. It felt pretty repetitive and I really did not love one of the MMCs and how he spoke to/about women other than the FMC. The pacing felt inconsistent as well to me. I feel conflicted about if I’ll continue the story with book 2 because I did go “what??” at the end and was immediately trying to figure out where I could find the next one. So like, clearly I didn’t hate it but I’m not sure I loved it either. I’ll keep you posted on if I continue or not 😂

I had previously read this book and had rated it 3 stars. Listening to the audio production made this a solid 4 star read! The narrators are perfect for their roles and the way they bring to life the internal monologues had me laughing out loud.

I highly recommend listening to the audio book rather than reading! Amazing performances by all the narrators really brought depth and dimension to the story that was lacking when I read it the first time. I will be continuing with this series and can’t wait for the next book to be produced!

Absolutely not. This book was so awful. Cringy, gross and not funny at all. At one point point a MMC wrestles/fights The FMC and forces her to eat. That same MMC takes advantage of her when she is extremely drunk. It’s so gross. The FMC is beyond whiny she is gods awful annoying.

ALC review
Psycho Shifters by Jasmine Mas
Stars: 3/5

This book was so unhinged, it is probably the most wildest book I've read this year. The audiobook was amazing I loved all the voice actors especially my fav Teddy Hamilton.

I would describe this book as very dark, with reverse harem, slow-burn and paranormal romance. The FMC Sadie was a baddie, she was very sarcastic which I loved. All three of the male characters (Jax, Cobra and Ascher) were all very unique. I loved the fact that this book had POV's from all the characters and I can't wait to see if the boys will get their books.

If you like paranormal romance with a lot of spice then you would love this book, however this book was not my favorite I did not like the woman shaming but I will definitely be reading more from this author.

Thank you @netgalley and @harlequinaudio for gifting me a ALC.

Psycho Shifters by Jasmine Mas

I really enjoyed this! This one had good pacing and when it ended I immediately wished for book two. Our FMC, Sadie has lived her whole life as a servant who is under constant abuse while trying to protect her sister. Then one day by chance she discovers that she is an Alpha. Only one problem, there aren't female Alphas. Suddenly Sadie finds herself in a military style training camp and having to coexist with her 3 very large and intense (and hot) fellow alphas.

This kept me on the edge of my seat, and being the first book I've read by Jasminr I can't wait to read more from her.

Holy hannah. What did I just read. But also I liked it?! It's addictive, sexy, and so much fun. The world was intriguing and un to learn about and I can't wait to hear even more about the characters and their backstories. I will be listening to the next one when it comes out. I mean, the boyfriends are boyfriends, and how fun is that??

Thank you to NetGalley for this AudioBook ARC!

The narration was well done but nothing could ever make me like this book. This read like a teenagers dream journal except we only get nightmares. The FMC’s inner monologues were painful to listen to and the descriptors were so repetitive. I love when books show me, instead of telling me. Jasmine Mas told us everything and I wish she hadn’t.

This is the first book in the Cruel Shifterverse series and the start of the trilogy (now complete) that focuses on Sadie. This series is being re-released under a new publisher. I received an advance listening copy and my thoughts are my own. Thank you to the author, Harlequin Audio and Net Galley for my ALC.

Tropes and themes include:

✨Why choose (mmfm)

✨Omegaverse shifters

✨Forced proximity

✨Secrets & betrayals

✨Alpha shifter MMCs

✨Hate to love

✨Touch her and die

✨Training scenes

✨She has a weak stomach

Rating: 4/5 Stars 3/5 Flames

Nickname: Little Alpha, Princess

Audiobook: I listened to about the first two-thirds of this as an audiobook and then switched to ebook. This is a duet style narration with four narrators: Mollie Stark, Jaime Lincoln Smith, Teddy Hamilton and Jeremy York. Having separate narrators for each of the MMCs made it so much easier to distinguish between the male characters, and thus made for a much more enjoyable listening experience.

The Lovely: I enjoyed how much the FMC and MMCs tried to hate each other, with limited success. It was fun, it was sassy, and filled with a lot of spicy tension.

The Mundane: This really did not need to talk about bodily functions as much as it did. The FMC has the weakest stomach, which we were reminded of frequently.

Recommendation: I honestly thought I knew how this was going to end, but I was only one-third right. Big cliffhanger of an ending so I plan to read the next two books as soon as possible. If you like a paranormal romance but with fantasy elements and a smutty Slowburn, I think you would like this book.

Sadie’s life has been nothing but survival—beatings from the tavern owner who “owned” her, protecting her younger sister from the same fate, and keeping her head down as a powerless null in the shifter realm… or so she thought!!! But everything changes on her 20th birthday when she’s tested at the sacred lake and revealed to be the first-ever female alpha. Thrust into a brutal training compound with three massive, infuriating alphas—Jax, the calm, beautiful, and so caring head? Alpha; Ascher, the true definition of a hothead; and Cobra, the cold, dangerous enigma who plays silent bad boy like we all know and love—Sadie finds herself caught between a brewing war with the fae queen and the constant clash of wills with her so-called “allies.” They don’t trust her, they don’t want her there, but they can’t seem to let her go either… physically or mentally.

What comes to play is an addictive mix of sharp banter, reluctant alliances, and a slow-burn spicy tension that crackles on every page. The world is gritty and immersive, with portals between realms, immortal alphas shifting into beautiful beasts with amazing abilities, and monsters waiting to rip them apart, limb by limb. Sadie’s resilience, biting humor, incredible strength (mentally and physically) and refusal to be intimidated make her magnetic, even as she stumbles through a world she never expected, and was never trained for. Those three alphas? Their dynamic is a delicious mess of rivalry, protectiveness, and barely restrained obsession. Between the war looming at their doorstep and the tangled relationships forming inside the compound, I devoured this book in one sitting!!!

I wanted to drop a huge shoutout and thank you to NetGalley and Harlequin Audio for sending this one over… I knew it was getting amazing reviews on social media, but getting a chance to listen to it, made me 100% understand. Teddy Hamilton, Mollie Stark, Jamie Lincoln Smith, and Jeremy York do a TOP TIER job on this one. SOOOO deliciously delivered, and hands down one of the best times through an audiobook!!

Cruel Shifterverse series book 1

This series was picked up to be traditionally published and I just knew it was my time to jump into the world. And now that I’m in it, I’m excited to keep going!

Jasmine Mas…you know how to write a FMC that hooks me right from the start. Snarky, witty, sarcastic….I love it so much. I felt the same way about Blood of Hercules. I just love being so entertained! And don’t get me started on the grumpy, broody MMCs. Yes please. Throw in tattoos and piercings? I don’t have enough words…

This was a fun, fast paced read. I really enjoyed that she too was an alpha as it put her on the same level of the playing field as the other guys— though they still all try to protect her. The other alphas have very different personalities and I liked how each seemed to play a different role though they were all alphas. Also her alpha form? So cool!
I’m curious to see where this goes and look forward to the next installments!

Thank you NetGalley and Harlequin Audio!
