Marshall Karp continues the NYPD Red series with true vision and wit. Kylie MacDonald and Zach Jordan team up once again to find a nefarious bomber obsessed with 11:59. NYPD Red has to decide whether or not the case is worth the chase. Suffice to say it is. Add this new thriller to your TBR. #nypdred #NetGalley #libraryninja📚

NYPD Red 8 is a quick easy read by Marshall Karp. Two NYPD detectives set out to solve a series of bombings, as well as a murder that one of their exes is accused of. Are the cases related? Short chapters and an easy to follow story makes a great read. 4 stars.

A series of bombs are going off in New York at precisely 11.59. Red is tasked with finding the culprit before more people are killed. Kylie and Zac also have personal issues, Zac decides if he should tell Theo he's his father, and Kylie comes face to face again with Spencer, who has been charged with murder.

I have read all the books in this series, and they are consistently thrilling with excellent storylines. I worried that without Patterson's input, they wouldn't be as thrilling. However, I was wrong. Karp has continued this series wonderfully. The storyline kept me gripped immediately, and it was a very good read. I look forward to the next in this series.

In 2012, James Patterson, along with Marshall Karp, introduced us to the world of NYPD Red. A task force created to serve and protect the wealthiest and most influential of Manhattan. After 6 books, James Patterson’s name was no longer associated with the series. Two years later, in 2022, Marshall Karp resumed the series on his own. And now, three years later, we are back with “NYPD Red 8: The 11:59 Bomber”.

We are quickly introduced to the title villain, The 11:59 Bomber. So named after an explosion impacts the transit system of New York and the lives of some close to the NYPD Red unit. Soon, New York is holding their breath each morning as 11:59 nears. Is today the day that the bomber will strike again? NYPD Red is on the hunt to find the perpetrator or perpetrators.

But this is not the only case that involves NYPD Red. There is another, more personal case to NYPD Red detective Kylie MacDonald, that is distracting them. They must handle this case unofficially.

The short chapters, the mini cliffhangers, and general story will keep you up page after page. I kept saying to myself, “One more page and then I’m done.” One more page led to an entire book. And it was a day well spent. I hope James Patterson’s fans will stay with this series, because Mr. Karp sure does know how to write a thriller.

I received this ARC from NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for an unbiased review.

The NYPD Red novels have provided interesting looks into the New York police department. Number 8 is no exception as a bomber tries for revenge, always at 11:59 am. It's a quick read and I enjoyed following the lead officers in their efforts to both stop and identify the bomber(s).
Thanks NetGalley for the ARC.

Kylie and Zach are back at it again, chasing down a sadistic bomber in the
Big App!e. Using the same time set on each of his bomb set time detonation, has the
detectives and entire city holding their collective breaths each day, as the
appointed hour approaches.
Superb, suspenseful writing with characters that are as vivid as the bombing descriptions themselves.
Great story.
Bring on the next chapter.

Marshall Karp does not disappoint with Book 8 in the NYPD Red series! This was a page turner for me, and I found I would tell myself just one more chapter which was never just one with how hooked this had me! I can’t wait to see how the story of Zach, Cheryl, Theo, Kylie and Captain Cates continues. My rating is 4.5 stars vs a solid 5 because of the final chapter without giving anything away. The timing on this was not clear and almost seemed thrown in to give character/relationship closure. Thanks to NetGalley and Blackstone Publishing for the ARC. All opinions are my own. Expected Publication Date: November 25, 2025 Note: Since this is so close to Thanksgiving in the US, be warned this is addicting to better plan your holiday tasks!

You expect non-stop action from the NYPD Red series and NYPD Red: The 11:59 Bomber does not disappoint. The first bomb, detonated at 11:59 am in a crowded subway station, is a surprise. The next bomb at Bloomingdales at 11:59 is not. The hunt is on and Detectives Kylie MacDonald and Zach Jordan face a tough assignment. There are no suspects, no blackmail requests, only a promise to destroy the city because it destroyed his family. As Kylie and literally Zach literally race against the clock, Kylie’s concentration is shattered by the reappearance of her husband Spence, who had been presumed dead. He threatens to kill a director at the premiere of his movie and when that director is found stabbed to death later that night, Spence is arrested. He was standing over the body with a bloody knife in his hands.

This fast paced mystery is simply excellent. The plot is well constructed, suspenseful and full of surprises. The characters, some familiar and some new, are vividly described. You won’t be able to put this one down! 5 stars.

Thank you to NetGalley, Blackstone Publishing and Marshall Karp for this ARC.

Highly entertaining book, with excellent characters and life-like and a little funny dialogue. The storytelling is a surprise, as there's a mix of 1. and 3. person POV, and that's not very professional. The cops also miss a big clue, but you can find it by reading the book.

Detectives Zach Jordan and Kylie MacDonald must solve one of their biggest cases while both dealing with personal emotions and decisions. Someone is wrecking vengeance against the city of New York for a perceived wrong. Bombs are going off at 11;59. Citizens are in a panic as the police’s stress mounts as the clock ticks down to the faithful time of the next bomb explosion. The time will be 11:59 but where? Fast paced suspenseful story with a second storyline for both detectives. Great read .

I was completely hooked from the very beginning of this novel which has several relevant plot lines — a bomber seeking revenge in New York City, a murder of a movie producer, a son discovered through Ancestry.com and the husband and wife relationship. The book is compelling and forces the reader to lose sleep to get to the conclusion of this novel which traces the steps taken by authorities to uncover the guilty parties. I can wholeheartedly recommend this intriguing and fascinating book to all readers who enjoy this genre and thank NetGalley and Blackstone Publishing for the opportunity to read and review this novel prior to publication.

Marshall Karp returns with NYPD Red 8, and for longtime fans of the series. I have read all the books in this series to date. this installment is a welcome blend of high-stakes tension, procedural precision, and emotional depth . Now writing solo (without James Patterson), Karp proves he still knows how to deliver a tightly plotted thriller that doesn’t lose sight of its characters.

The premise is instantly gripping: a bomber striking at exactly 11:59 a.m. each day, choosing public targets in the heart of New York City. The ticking clock setup gives the novel a natural pace that’s both urgent and cinematic. Karp handles this time-based suspense well, creating a sense of dread as each day nears the fatal minute.

Detectives Zach Jordan and Kylie MacDonald, now deep into their careers and complex relationship, face not only a professional crisis but a personal reckoning as well. The case forces them to confront the emotional wear of being the city’s elite crime-fighting duo—often in the public eye but just as often in each other's way.

What sets this installment apart is the personal motive of the antagonist. The bomber isn’t just evil for spectacle. There's a tragic backstory behind the attacks, making the villain’s arc more than just chaos for chaos’s sake. Karp explores the gray area between justice and vengeance without slowing the pace.

Strengths:

Fast-paced and taut plotting

Emotional stakes tied to both heroes and villain

Strong chemistry between the leads

A frighteningly believable terrorist scenario

Minor Weaknesses:

Some procedural shortcuts feel a bit convenient

Character depth can take a backseat to plot momentum at times

Less flashy than earlier entries, but more grounded

Verdict:

NYPD Red 8 is a compelling continuation of the series that stands on its own while rewarding longtime readers. With its mix of crime, timing, and emotion, it proves Karp can still pack a punch without Patterson at his side. Not just a thriller—but a story with pulse and heart.

I gave this Story 4.5 Stars but rounded it up to 5 Stars and thoroughly enjoyed it. This proved Karp can Continue the series on his own and I am looking forward to many more of Zach, Kyilee , Captain Cates and now Theos adventures. I want to thank Mister Karp, Netgalley and the Blackstone Publishing Company For the advanced Copy of this book.
