Infernal Hearts by Danny Halliwell is a dark, gripping journey into the depths of love, danger, and secrets that refuse to stay buried. Halliwell’s writing pulls you in with a perfect mix of suspense and emotion, making it impossible to put down. The characters feel raw and real, each carrying their own demons and desires that collide in unpredictable ways. If you’re craving a story where passion and peril intertwine flawlessly, this one’s a must-read. Definitely adding it to my favorites!

I really enjoyed reading this one.

This was a cute lgbtq+ paranormal thriller.
I enjoyed the mystery and the fun banter between Jason and Levi.

This is a fun paranormal romance. There is just enough of the paranormal to provide and interesting story but not so much that it is confusing and overshadows the romance. The two main characters are likable, if a bit shallowly developed. The dialogue is stilted at times. Overall, this is a fun read that I finished quickly. I received a complimentary digital copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley.

Infernal Hearts is a fun queer paranormal romance, full of magic and mystery. Jason Blackwell just wants a quiet life as a small-town vet, but those plans fall apart the moment Levi, an injured, suit-wearing incubus with a Southern accent shows up at his door.

Levi needs help finding his missing brother, and Jason is still haunted by the disappearance of his own father. Their uneasy partnership quickly turns into something more as secrets unfold and sparks fly. The banter is sharp, the chemistry is undeniable, and the tension builds perfectly from page to page.

There is a strong found family vibe, some emotional depth, and a romance that balances angst, humor, and heat. I do wish there had been a little more exploration of the lore and side characters, but the main dynamic between Jason and Levi kept me hooked.

This book caught my attention with its unique premise, pairing a human and an incubus as they uncover their pasts and navigate their present. While I appreciated the originality and the cozy, medium spice vibe of the story, the execution didn’t fully work for me. I gave this book 2/5 stars, with a spice rating of 3/5.

The overall concept was strong. I liked the blend of romance, humor, and supernatural elements, and the book had solid pacing for the most part. However, I often found the writing disjointed. There were several moments where I had to pause and reread sections just to understand what was going on, which pulled me out of the story. The emotional depth also felt lacking at times. I didn’t quite connect with the characters or the stakes they were facing. This made it harder to stay engaged, especially during longer chapters.

The themes of self-discovery, independence, and personal growth were clear and meaningful, but I would’ve liked to see them explored more deeply. The ending in particular felt rushed and wrapped up a bit too neatly, missing the opportunity to leave a lasting impact.

Overall, Infernal Hearts had a fun and promising setup, but I was hoping for more development in the plot and characters. It’s a good pick for readers who enjoy light queer romance with a paranormal twist, but it didn’t resonate enough with me to earn a spot on my shelf.

I loved this queer paranormal story it was so nice to read one as I don’t find as many often but I really enjoyed this arc. I do feel there was some plot gaps with characters which didn’t end up being tied up but the witty banter between Levi and Jason was really enjoyable.

Thank you so much to Entangled for the opportunity to read one of your ARCs!

I honestly went into this book expecting one thing but was honestly pleasantly surprised with how it was! Definitely more a cozy queer paranormal romance and the banter between Levi and Jason was great. Great world building and an all around good read.

This book was such a cute queer romance. I loved the world building and how the author was able to create this world in a such fast paced and entertaining way. I loved the instant connection that Levi and Jason had and the mystery around where their brother and father were and how everything was connected. I didn’t expect to enjoy this book as much as I did. I will say that I loved the one spicy scene that we got, but I was a little disappointed that it was only the one scene. Overall, this book had the humor, the magic, the forced proximity, and cute dogs what more could anyone ask for?

I didn't care for the romance. It was ok at first. But they went from 0 to 100 in two seconds. They had no real reason to want to be together and they didn't have any chemistry.

*3.5 Stars*

Jason Blackwell is determined to leave the world of magical medicine behind, stepping out on his own to live a normal life as a veterinarian in the small town of Windy Peak. When Jason's father goes missing around the same time Levi, an incubus searching for his missing brother, arrives in town, Jason decides to make a bargain with Levi to work together. Jason must return to the supernatural world and the secrets his father left behind. Failure is not an option. If Levi cannot find his brother in fourteen days, then Levi will die.

Infernal Hearts was a fun paranormal romance. This book had a lot of entertaining characters and a magical world that I enjoyed hidden in the small town of Windy Peak. I loved the grumpy/sunshine trope between Levi and Jason. Their banter was one of my favorite parts of this book. However, I felt that this book could have been more. The search for Levi's brother was overlooked in parts of this book and the main focus was the romance between Jason and Levi. I felt like this focus caused some weird pacing and an ending that seemed to come out of nowhere. This left me with some questions at the end of this book. Overall, I still enjoyed this story and would read more books centered in this fantasy world.

Thank you to Entangled Publishing and NetGalley for the opportunity to review Infernal Hearts. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This book's blurb sells it like its going to be a murder mystery entangled in a paranormal romance between a gay small town vet and an incubus who wanders in with two weeks to live and a mystery to solve in that time frame, else he will lose his life for failure.

You'd think this would set the stage for some high tension, good stakes, and passionate will they/won't they romance. Instead this is a paint by numbers bog standard 'cozy' read that sets stakes and then basically ignores them, with more romance than mystery. You know before you're a quarter in that there's a guaranteed HEA in this romance and the third act break up is poorly staged and even more poorly set off. Honestly, if it weren't for a spicy scene (that was only so spicy and pretty mid) this would have easily been scraped down to a YA mystery romance with lower stakes that better hit the mark for what the author achieved, rather then what he promised. The twist ending isn't a twist if you pay attention, and everything's tidied up by the final pages. But at least Andrew wasn't as dumb as he seemed, while the main cast was exactly as dumb as they seemed.

Still, there's some cute bits. I can empathize with Jason and his desires to be separate from family legacy and trouble. Levi's one note but occasionally he's allowed to be witty. But it follows every beat and trope to the letter, and thus makes for over all dull reading.

A charming incubus and a grumpy mage forced to work together. This book was funny, flirty and full of magical tension. I love Levi with his charm and sass and his chemistry with Jason.

Round up to 4.25/5 stars

Jason Blackwell just wants to live a quiet, normal life. Unfortunately, being the assistant to his father, a doctor for magical creatures, is anything but. After a major falling out, Jason breaks away to start his own vet practice and leaves the magical world (and his dad) behind. But when his father goes missing and a seriously injured demon named Levi shows up on his doorstep, Jason is pulled right back in. Reluctantly, he helps Levi heal… and discovers the demon is on a mission to find his missing brother. With their goals unexpectedly aligned, Jason and Levi team up. But can Jason trust a demon—especially one who’s charming, frustratingly attractive?

This book hooked me from page one. Set in a modern-day Colorado infused with magical realism, the worldbuilding is immersive and beautifully done. Every creature, from vampires to faeries, is given thoughtful detail, and even the human characters feel rich and well-developed. The banter is fun and snarky, the slow-burn queer romance delivers, and when the spice hits, it’s just enough to leave you grinning. If you’re looking for a standalone fantasy that’s easy to follow but still packed with magic, heart, and paranormal queer romance, look no further. I’d happily read a whole series about Jason and Levi.

This was a sweet, cozy mystery, supernatural romance. It is a fun, quick read and the characters were likeable.

Great grumpy/sunshine romance. I love the stern workaholic with the happy go lucky love interest. The world is done very well with magical creatures and the different things each character has with the human doctor to help them. The interactions are light and cute and I love the dual pov of any romance book seeing how each of them fall for each other. The plot is done very well with mysterious disappearance and reluctant deal to help each other out. I am currently in my demon romance phase and this book was such fun to read. Spice is probably 2.25/5. Great plot, fun characters and just a vibe.

This was a very interesting read and was not as dark and stormy as I was expecting. It was actually funny at moments and light hearted. The overall story line was very good. It had a queer representation.

The characters Jason and Levi were interesting in their own right. I felt out of the two that Levi was probably the most hilarious with his banter and quirky remarks.

There was this mysteriousness when it came to looking for a missing person. I liked the magical and creature component of the story as well. They say opposite attract and well, a human and an incubus definitely are two different sides of the spectrum.

The book gives you betrayal as well as secrets and mystery. However the book also highlights that sometimes family is not what you were born into. This was a very short and quick read for me but I enjoyed it overall.

This was a delightful surprise! I loved the blend of supernatural mystery and slow-burn romance. Jason, a veterinarian trying to escape his magical past, gets pulled back in when Levi, a charming and mischievous incubus, shows up injured on his doorstep. Their mission to find Levi’s missing brother (and maybe Jason’s missing father) quickly becomes a deeper, emotional journey. The banter between them was top-notch, and watching their connection grow felt genuine and rewarding. I especially appreciated how Levi’s character evolved beyond the typical incubus trope. While the mystery sometimes took a backseat to the romance, I didn’t mind; it made the emotional moments hit harder. If you enjoy paranormal MM romance with humor and heart, this one’s worth reading.

This book is a wonderfully light read that works great as a palatte cleanser while still having some stakes, much heart and charming banter.
Levi, the Incubus, steals every moment he's on page, just like he should. I loved him to bits.
Sweet, magical healer Jason deserves so much better and along the way he finds it.
Then there's also a snarky, tough Gorgon, who was my favorite side character. I want a friend like her.

Despite it all, Infernal Hearts is not something I would buy for myself but I feel readers of cozy fantasy will love this story about finding one's true purpose.
Thank you to NetGalley, the publisher and the author for this eARC!

A sweet and swoony queer paranormal romance that totally swept me away! Levi, the flirty incubus, is absolutely hilarious and stole every scene—his banter with Jason had me smiling nonstop. The chemistry between them is electric, and I was cheering for them from the start.

The world is vivid and original, with a twisty mystery and just the right amount of steam. I loved how the story balanced heart, heat, and suspense so seamlessly.
