What a wild, glorious ride through one of our most audacious and exhilarating filmmakers. In each compact chapter, there are at least a dozen threads I wanted to follow to see where Ferrara might take me. His voice is so specific, rich and unique (no surprise, given his movies) and he seems to have packed a hundred lifetimes into his own. I wish it had been twice as long, but I'm so grateful for what it is. I read it in two sittings.

Abel Ferrara is one of my favorite directors out of the independent film scene in New York City. So many of his films feature disturbing and memorably sleaze characters. I loved reading his book; and am happy to know that he has sobered up and continued being an amazing prolific filmmaker and artist. I highly recommend this book to aspiring filmmakers and fans of Abel.

Enjoyed this for what it is. It's light, loose, seems genuinely written by the author (or at least realistically in his voice). There might be less partying and illegal activity than some readers expect, though this is alluded to. This is, in the end, the memoir of a sober man looking back on his life, and some of the quick glosses hint at a deeper pain left in his wake. There are some good behind-the-scenes stories and insights into each of Ferrara's features besides the most recent. A worthy read for any Ferrara fans.
