WOW! Thank You NetGalley and HighBridge Audio for this amazing Early Listening Copy. Joe is a wondering soul travelling thru cities and relationships during the early 80s at the prime of the HIV/ AIDS epidemic. The Narrator did an amazing job giving each character a separate personality and identity. I really enjoyed the sprinkle of the music throughout the different stages. Within the words of this book there are very heavy topics, but are a strong part of Joes journey to find himself.

Tramps like Us tells us the story of Joe, a young queer man who is growing up in the US just prior to and at the beginning of the AIDS crisis.
Joe, after having grown up in Missouri, jumps around the United States, and ends up in places like New Orleans and San Francisco and throughout, we see him just trying to make it- to get back to a place where he can play music and be free. Joe comes into his own as a gay man, learns his preferences and how to advocate through them, and there is a good amount of drugs, violence, and fear.
But the prose and writing style throughout feel like getting to know a friend through messages. Short sentences, quick dialogue and while it took awhile to get used to, it was very worth the listen.
I received an audio e-arc from Netgalley, thank you to the publishers.

Rambling, mostly monotone, slice of gay life, drugs, drinking, sex, dancing, found family, AIDS, dying. Not what I expected. I listened to it at night. It helped me fall asleep. ALC was provided by HighBridge Audio via NetGalley. I received an audiobook listening copy for free and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
