An absolutely beautiful memoir that includes spiritual healing tools to help the reader on their healing journey. Whilst some of the author’s trauma was different than my own, some of her trauma mirrored mine or was quite similar, so I felt a kindred spirit in her. An immensely important and lovely book I feel every human seeking enlightenment and healing needs on their bookshelf. 🥰 As we also do our best to practice non toxic living ourselves, I also really appreciated the author’s message on the importance of avoiding teflon and PFAs.

This was a very difficult read for me. I initially picked up this book written by a Clinical Therapist in hopes of learning some new techniques for helping Highly Sensitive clients. The last portion of the book included just that: holistic techniques and resources that I found very helpful.
2/3 of the book was about the writer’s own life story and development as a healer. It was incredibly difficult for me to read due to multitude of trauma, abuse, mental illness and at times poor decision making and non-existing boundaries. I felt badly for the author for the lack of support system. I wanted to give up this book multiple times but ended up pushing myself to finish, which took me nearly 3 weeks. I command the author for her bravery in sharing her story.

Midwife of the Soul: A Teaching Memoir Through the Lens of an HSP Psychotherapist, by Shira Friedman, is a memoir set in the 1950's, where we follow the author from childhood through to present day. She shares her depth of emotions and difficult life experiences through her HSP lens, and reveals the path that led her to self discovery and spiritual awakening.
It is a very informative book filled with facts of her life. It is not an easy read for me, as I felt bad for the author for having endured misfortunate events time and time again. I like the reference at the end offering guidance to e.g., chakras, food, positive thinking, psychology and even a recipe! Super helpful.
Thank you NetGalley, Atmosphere Press, and the author for letting me read this book for free. I am grateful and I enjoy being part of this beautiful network. Many thanks all. Onto the next!
