Thank you NorthSouth Books and NetGalley for the digital ARC of “9 Little People” by Regina Feldmann. This diverse picture book was so heartwarming and beautiful. I especially appreciated the scene that showed how vision impaired children can also enjoy an art exhibit with their friends by using touch. It also showed how a child with limb difference may use a variety of mobility aids. There were a variety of different types of families that a child can recognize as like their own. The author’s afterword and hopes for the book were very touching, this book encourages the natural empathy in every child. The rhyming text makes this a nice read-aloud and it’s simple enough that it could probably be used for teaching a new reader.

The illustrations are cute and sure to catch a child's eye. I thought it was just cute narrative rhyming but when I read the author's note, I thought it was a great way to recreate memories for a childhood rhyme that might lack diversity and inclusion. I reread it to that rhyming scheme and enjoyed it quite a lot.

So cute so cute so cute! I really love the illustrations and the inclusivity of this book. Super easy quick read for little kids. It teaches kids to look at everyone’s differences and see them as beautiful. Especially in today’s day and age it’s so important for kids to know that just because people look different than them that we are all still people.

This is such a cute story about growing up together and forging forever friendships. My kids loved this illustrations and that the words were simple enough that they could help read it with me.

I didn’t like this book at all. The author gave more insight in her own personal belief/agenda at the end of the book, in her letter to the reader; as opposed to giving a real meaningful insight in the pages of the actual book. The illustrations weren’t the best either. My eyes didn’t easily move across the pages. They tended to get stuck and then didn’t really obtain much. Poorly written book and no true display of the meaning she was trying to put out there.

Just a sweet little book about diverse babies living diverse lives but all loved the same and valued for who they are. Exactly the kind of book I love to add in to my Little Free Library and to gift to friend’s babies. The artwork is so cute, I loved the tiny details.

Thank you, NetGalley, Regina Feldmann, and NorthSouth Books Inc. for this advanced reader’s copy, I really enjoyed it!

Beautiful story, awesome art! The book is diverse in skin color, family type, ability, & body shape! Love the concept behind the story too. Many librarians avoid "10 little songs" because of the history but there are still books that talk about having 10 toes and 10 fingers and even kids without all 10 are perfect. This is great for storytime and a must-have for your shelves!

5/5 ⭐️
Gosh I adore this book! I read it with my 4 y/o daughter and I truly think every household and early education classroom should have this book. It’s so important, especially these days, that our children learn about diversity and accepting everyone as they are; after all, we all are human at the end of the day and go through the same basic motions. We’re different but we’re the same.

This is a really cute book. I get the sentiment, which is VERY important in this climate! I do wish there was a little more substance to it. My son did like how short it was because I did make him actually read it to me. haha. Overall, it's cute and an important message. I just wanted a little more.

Nine babies are born on the same day, and we get to watch them grow up together in this beautifully told story. The story perfectly shows how children with different abilities and from different backgrounds are all precious and find happiness in similar ways. My kids loved both the illustrations and the story itself. It’s the perfect book for families with young children, especially those who value diversity in their home libraries. I especially appreciated the wide representation among the parents and children, and the illustrations were absolutely lovely. The story flows gently as the nine children grow up side by side, making it a sweet and meaningful read.

This is a short, yet poignant book that is perfect for little and parents. It was nice to see twin representation. I especially loved the page that talked about everyone having different kinds of days and being rich in different ways. This is a helpful reminder for children, and also parents who may compare their parenting journey and feel like they are not doing enough.

It was a wonderful way to communicate the ways different people are born, brought up, and live with one another. The rhyme was adorable and catchy, the arstyle was welcoming, bright and engaging, and the themes were lovely and necessary.

It’s a cute story about 9 kids who share a birthday. They're from different ethnicities and backgrounds, but at the end of the day they’re besties because to an innocent mind, your color, religion, or background doesn’t matter. Something we adults seriously need to learn from kids.

This is my honest opinion for the ARC I received. Thanks author and NetGalley for the opportunity!

I had such a fun time reading this book with my twin girls. The book is way more about the illustrations than the actual words on the page, and I love that. It’s so open to interpretation, and a great conversation started with kids. We enjoyed pointing to different things on the page, talking about what the children were doing, and talking about their families. This book definitely made for a super sweet story time learning about diversity!
