A heartwarming celebration of friendship, family, and the beauty of growing up together.

9 Little People by Regina Feldmann is a caring and uplifting picture book that captures the magic of childhood and the power of community. Told in pleasing rhymes, the story follows nine children born on the same day who share their lives—from everyday adventures to major milestones—with warmth, love, and laughter.

What makes this book truly special is its message: that belonging comes from both what we share and what makes us unique. Each child is lovingly portrayed with their own personality and background, offering young readers a gentle introduction to themes of diversity, acceptance, and togetherness.

The vibrant illustrations compliment the lyrical storytelling. Every page is filled with joyful detail that invites children to explore, connect and imagine their own circles of friendship. A delightful read that would be a good fit for different reading settings that include bedtime or story time. The ideal range for this book is ages 4-8.

This book is great. I love the authors explanation of why she picked 9 little people vs 5 or 10 like is so often done. I loved seeing the diversity in the 9 little people characters and their families. Very validating book that helps open children minds to the idea that families can look different, other child can look different and we can still all enjoy the same things.

My five year old have this a sideways thumb on the scale of thumbs down to thumbs up so I'm going to go ahead and count that as a three. It was a cute five minute book and the illustrations were adorable. The story is about 9 children born on the same day who all grow up together but all with unique family dynamics and unique characteristics. Each page had a one line ryhme. I was a little thrown off that all of the pages were the "9" theme but there was a random "1". I think this would have made more sense either as all 9's or have pages for all of the other numbers as well.

This was a perfect book for my kids aged 2 and 3. It introduces diversity in a fun and relatable way. My kids loved picking out the different kids and wanted to name them and their families. They asked to read it again. We enjoyed the illustrations. The story is simple yet impactful. Brought up lots of good conversations with my children about other people who may be different from themselves.

This is such a sweet book that I think my kids would love. The message is beautiful and I especially like that it is written in verse, which is always a hit for both kids and adults alike. Unfortunately, because I read this on my Kindle (in black and white), I didn’t get to see the illustrations at the highest quality, but I will definitely be looking to pick this one up at the library or bookstore!

9 Little People is a children's book that highlights 9 different children, all born on the same day, and how they all grow up together. This story from Regina Feldmann is very cute! Although all the '9 little people' come from different families, they also share similarities - showcasing the greater human connection at play. There are different cultures and individual differences, with a common thread of community and love.

The illustrations by Martina Stuhlberger make the book so cozy and inviting! I love real art in children's books and not the more animated/AI type of style. Her use of colors and facial expressions brilliantly compliment the story.

Thank you to NetGalley, NorthSouth Books Inc., NorthSouth Books, the author Regina Feldmann, and the illustrator Martina Stuhlberger for an ARC of 9 Little People in exchange for an honest review!

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this digital ARC. This book comes out on September 2, 2025.

This book begins with 9 expectant moms about to give birth, then tells the story of those 9 little babies and follows them as they grow older. It’s a great way to show diversity and friendship.

This is a really lovely group of babies and their families. The words were cozy and simple, perfect for a bedtime story or a new reader. What I really enjoyed was the inclusiveness of the illustrations. In addition to being completely beautiful. From the multitude of skin colors to the various family structures, there was so much good representation in this book. There was also wheelchair representation, which I find harder to find in children's books, and always allows for good discussion with my children. Overall, really enjoyed.

Nothing special about this and not my cup of tea. Just some rhymes with pretty art. Good for early readers and bonding time though.

This is such a cute story showing how we are all different but the same in many ways. I loved how we saw the journey from birth through different parts of growing up to creating friendships and embracing each other!

This new picture book shows nine children all born on the same day. They are from different races and walks of life, have different types of families and some are differently abled, but they are all loved in their own way. The detailed illustrations show this diverse group as they grow and their friendship continues to flourish. The author's note at the back tells how she was inspired to turn an old popular " Ten Little..." rhyme of old from its racist origins into a beautiful diverse story that celebrates everyone.

I absolutely ADORED This picture book!

9 little people are born on the same day and while they grow up together, they each have unique experiences - families, home life (1 has a cute dog!), skin colors, hair textures, etc. Though they have differences, they remain best friends forever.

This book was charming and diverse and exactly what we keep in our library collection.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this eARC.

The story is simple, the message is poignant, and the art is gorgeous. Like, I-want-to-frame-it gorgeous. There's a clear emphasis on the visual storytelling here, so much so that at times, I found myself so captivated by the illustrations that I barely registered the words on the page.

This book is a heartfelt celebration of diversity in a world where that feels increasingly rare. The message is clear, necessary, and beautifully delivered. Something we could all benefit from being reminded of.

Thank you to NetGalley, NorthSouth Books Inc. | NorthSouth Books, and Regina Feldmann for the privilege of receiving this ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.
