Ugh, I love a good thriller but this time I got bored and wanted so much more. The premise was so intriguing but there was no depth . Dnf at 30%

I got this today and read it in one sitting. That could be read as a good thing. If you are looking for a quick read, then it may be a good pick for you!

Perhaps this is too reductive, but it felt like a mix between The Maid by Nita Prose and The Housemaid's Secret by Freida McFadden. I know stories about maids are not new, but with some heavy hitters recently, I am not sure what this book added to the genre.

Overall, I had a hard time connecting with the plot or the characters, and that sense of disconnection only deepened as I kept reading. The characters felt indistinct and underdeveloped, making it difficult to tell them apart or care about their actions.

The premise of this novel seemed much like The Maid by Nita Prose, which I enjoyed. The first few pages were enticing. However, the further I read, the harder it was to maintain a willing suspension of disbelief. There were just too many convenient coincidences, like the ease of Esmie being hired on as a cleaner in the first place by so many families at once, (with only one flimsy reference) and having so much time at each house to snoop instead of clean. There is some suspense at the beginning, but as the story continues, the suspense disappears and a soap-opera-ish tone replaces it. I gave up at the 50% point.
Having said all that, I'm sure there are some people who will enjoy this novel as a distraction on a long flight or in a waiting room.
