A tender story that reads almost like a music video—a series of small, non-linear fragments of a person’s life. At first, it’s difficult to make sense of these different scenes, and it’s only when viewed in their entirety that you’re able to see and appreciate their beauty.

I thoroughly enjoyed this novel, though I can see how the structure might not be everyone’s cup of tea.

Jackie’s dad is in a mental institution and this novel follows Jim’s story and the people around him. The book shows how families are impacted by mental unwellness. Found it difficult to read, characters confusing and did not like the voice. Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC.

Thank you NetGalley for this ebook in exchange for an honest review.

Found this super repetitive and a little disappointing and confusing. Maybe it’s because I read it in English instead of the original Swedish, I don’t know. I’m usually into these kinds of books but it didn’t do it for me this time. And I found there was no point to Olof and Dr. Janowski’s parts. Not for me.

The writing was very emotional and fluid which i definitely enjoyed. The translator also deserves praise for keeping the writing as beautiful as it is.

I found the non-linear storylines choppy and jarring. Normally i enjoy non-linear storytelling but in the case I found it confusing.

thank you farrar, straus and giroux and netgalley for the eARC in exchange for my honest review! ₊˚⊹♡

i have some mixed opinions on this! - i think there were a lot of raw/tender moments and quotes that really resonated with me, however i did find the timeline to be a bit disorienting. i also had a bit of trouble figuring out and remembering who all of the character were.

i think this is a very somber, bleak and reflective story with very beautiful passages about the struggles of mental health (especially mens mental health), family/connections, finding your place in the world and simply existing. even though i had a bit of trouble being fully submerged, i did still find this to be a thought provoking story and glad i got the chance to read it :)

I don't really know how to feel about this one. Whilst the writing was lush, emotive and quite descriptive - things I usually like - I just couldn't connect.

This is a introspective, slow and melancholic story full of conversation on mental illness and a daughter navigating her life and growing up whilst trying to understand and connect with her emotionally (and often times physically) absent father; Lots of reminiscing and meandering thoughts.

However, I did find the frequent time jumps a bit disorienting. the story shifts between different timelines frequently, sometimes even multiple times within a single chapter. It's confusing at first, but I got used to it the more I read. Personally I found that quite jarring, but I could see how it might appeal to other readers.
