This was a great installment to the Kate Burkholder series, and it was very well done on audio. When the remains of an Amish man are discovered, dismembered, Burkholder and Tomasetti begin a complicated case that becomes very personal.

Thanks to Macmillan and NetGalley for the arc!

It is time for our annual trip back to Painter's Mill, Ohio, and this time Kate Burkholder and her minions are deep in it with the first body found which was in pieces and then the second found in a barrel and when the third was found and appeared as if the young woman was running away from her pursuer. I do have to say this series gets better and better and each could be read as a standalone.

The latest book in the Kate Burkholder series (book 17) and it's always a thrill to return to her world! The reader did a great job bringing this story to life.

A dismembered body turning up in Painter's Mill is just the start of Chief Burkholder's problems in this installment of the series.

I am a big fan of this series and its heroine, and this case sounded especially heinous, so I was very interested. Since it got off to a big start with a couple of kids finding body parts, I was a little surprised to find that the first half was a bit of a slow burn. There's a number of cases intersecting and you get a pretty good view of each before they start to fit together. That being said, once things fall into place the story moves extremely quickly, and the back half was hard to put down. The ending especially was action packed and interesting and it ended up being one of my favorite books in the series.

The only thing I didn't love about this one was that the narrator was often extremely staccato with choppy sentences at times. I noticed it in a number of characters, so it wasn't like it was a style choice for a specific personality. It just becomes a little distracting. I feel like this narrator has read the series before and I'm not sure I've noticed it so pronounced previously.

This is an Amish Mystery/Thriller, and this is the 17th book in the Kate Burkholder series. I have read the first sixteen books (and most of the Novellas too) before picking up this book. I think this series would be better if read in order. I read this book by listening to the audiobook, and I loved the audiobook. I really love the Kate Burkholder series, and I love how she is always put into live and death moments. I figured out part of what was going on early, but I loved this book. I loved all the drama and craziness in this book. Of course Katie gets herself into trouble. I received an ARC of this book. This review is my own honest opinion about the book like all my reviews are.

I was so excited to dive back into Painters Mill and solve another Amish crime with Kate Burkholder and this book did not disappoint! I loved the storyline and the suspense kept me on the edge of my seat. The narrator, as always, did a fantastic job at bringing Kate and her world to life. I already can’t wait for the next book!

It’s hard to believe the Amish are such a bloodthirsty lot. But Castillo somehow manages to make it all too realistic. This time out, a group of children find a local Amish farmer dismembered. Kate has the unenviable task of finding out which one of her friends or neighbors is responsible.
