I don't know. This book felt like two separate books. one was decent and the others were confusing and the end...was just too much. the writing style was fine and I will read Wagner again. this book just wasn't horror, it was more scofo fantasy imho

"Girl in the Creek" by Wendy N. Wagner is my first book by this author, and it will not be my last. If you want a murder mystery, this book is right up your alley. It was a decent read; it kept my attention 80% of the time, but the other 20%, I wasn't as engaged. I think the pacing was a little off for me. But overall, I recommend it.

The audiobook is narrated by Jennifer Pickens; she did a good job telling the story. It was easy to understand and listen to, even at 2.5x speed.

Thank you, NetGalley, and Macmillan Audio, for the audiobook in exchange for my honest review.

This was just too good. I loved it all. I love the twist at the end the most but the entire book is twisty and scary and exciting. The narration was perfect too!

Thank you Tor for my gifted copy, and thank you Macmillan Audio for my gifted ALC!

What in The Last of Us! Thatโ€™s a compliment - I promise. The Girl in the Swamp was beautiful in all its mossy, damp glory. Spores and all.

I read somewhere that when cordyceps infect an insect, like a caterpillar or ant, the brain is still somewhat aware that its body has been highjacked by the cordyceps. This horrified me for days, and it brought to mind the zombies from The Last of Us pleading for help under their zombie groans, because their brains were still aware and alert. Can you imagine the horror? Because I can. And it makes me freak out.

This book had those elements that freaked me out. But it was also a place of solace because nature is a comfort to me, in all its horror. I loved this world, these characters, the plot, the writing, the story! The tragedy! It was brilliant. I will absolutely be binging this authorโ€™s backlog.

Part true crime fiction, part nature horror, all parts awesome!

This was so intense in its descriptive writing! The body horror, the depth of emotion in those moments, and this entity itself that is causing itโ€ฆ just such a great read.

Go into this one blind! I hope you feel the build up of these characters and the journey they take. I listened to the audiobook and I loved it.

The last of us but small town instead of zombie.
Creepy, cool, terrifying.

Considering the amount of information we donโ€™t know about mycelium and fungi these types of stories intrigue me so much.

PNW, my fav setting.

Narration was alright, not a ton of changes in the voice but not annoying so thatโ€™s always good.

Erinโ€™s brother has been missing for five years. He hiked onto a trail and the Pacific Northwest and vanished. Now, sheโ€™s decided sheโ€™s going to find the truth herself, and her investigation begins with a bang when she finds a womanโ€™s body. There have been plenty of others who have disappeared in the region, and it would seem likely, that an active serial killer is still on the hunt. What is it about the Pacific Northwest? That area seems to have produced more serial killers than any other region in the country. Tense and atmospheric.
