Another in this series and what a great read. Nurses Freda, Veronica and Sylvia are the best of friends and do life together both in the hospital and at home. Along the way Kathy and Betty also nurses have joined their group but not all is rosy for some of them. A great storyline continuing some of the themes from previous books. A must read and how it’s left I hope means there is more to come.

I'm definitely going to be in the minority here because this book didn't do it for me. It was as I was reading I realised I'd read the first in the series but missed the second one and there was a storyline I recognised that was still on going. Yes it was an important story to tell but it was way too dragged out. It took too long for Veronica, who's story it was, to make up her mind to finally do something about it.
I didn't like Sylvia at all and it's hard to read a story when the character is unappealing.
It was interesting learning about the attack on Bath during the war, something I hadn't read much about.
People who enjoy light, fast reads set in the war years will enjoy it and I think it's better to read the series in order to understand what's going on.

The third book in the home front nurses series and it's around Christmas time. The war is still continuing to wreak havoc and destroy lives. Veronica, Sylvia and Freda are contemplating major changes in their lives both professionally and personally. I can't believe sexual assault hasn't changed much in the ways of feeling able to report it and getting the support needed. Another topic that arises in this book is sexual preference which thankfully has progressed leaps and bounds from the time in the story. The book is almost entirely character driven which I enjoyed because I like the characters. The plot has different things happening for each of the girls and I believe will continue into the next book. So exciting times are ahead.

back with a group we have come to treasure and a writing style i feel the same about. Rachel has bought me in to her world and i feel lucky to be there. when i saw the next book coming out i was rather too excited. and then it appeared next on my 'to read' list and i was ready, too ready to step back in to this story. this story added extra heart for me and as i now care about the woman so much i was wondering just where this blurb might take them.
Rachel brings alive this time in our history with such skill and yet you still have to realise each time that life and all that comes with that being good and bad still go on. there are some tough moments to be met with in this book but once again the woman face it, they face it with their usual brilliance. and this is never more present than in this book when evil lurks far too close to home than they should ever have to be near. and the woman dont have it easy, but with courage and the support of one another this ultimately keeps getting them all through. this book is so full of that and that has continued from the very start. this book, our characters is full of hope, support and love. that doesn't mean its shy's away from depicting the big or hard stuff. but you are left with the former. and that is sometimes all you need and actually really hard to do with topics or themes we have covered here.
you are left at the end of the book waiting with bated breathe for the next but never wanting this one to end! i genuinely find myself slowing down because i dont want to leave them yet.

As a relatively recent convert to this author, I was hoping for a great third book in this series an I wasn't disapointed. The author has a lovely, easy writing story, that makes it so easy to pick up where book 2 left off. This is a story about hope and love, and how those are probably the best things you could wish to find in the middle of a war.
The main characters of Sylvia, Freda and Veronica show these traits in abundance, yet their story is written so perfectly, not holding back when disagreements surface, exactly as real best friends should, but being there to support each other and to find a way through their problems.
Speaking of which there are an abundence. Homeless orphans, evil which lurks much to close for comfort, friendships which could be so much more, only needing to find the courage to make the needed leap.
A gem of a story which held my attention with ease. I can honestly recommend this book (and the series). 5 out of 5 stars, of course.

Sylvia ,Veronica and Freda are back again. Veronica is still suffering at the hands of the man who assaulted her, he’s still living in her street and still making life uncomfortable. When she becomes close to another nurse Betty who needs a place to stay all starts to unravel.
Sylvia's friends and family are concerned about her drinking even Suster Dwyer has smelt it off her.
Freda is throwing herself into a new way of nursing but is it enough, she still hankers after a role on the frontline.
Great to catch up with the girls and their lives looking forward to another visit soon.

I loved this book! Reading it was like catching up with old friends, I literally read this in one day as I couldn’t put it down. What about that cliffhanger! Now I cannot wait until the next book to see if Veronica spills the beans. This is a story of courage during the terrible upheaval of WW2 and the nurses who look after the sick and the injured military personnel. It has some tough moments in this story but the girls face every problem with grace and dignity. I highly recommend this series, Rachel has done a wonderful job in continuing the nurses stories.

Love this continuation, feels so homely and really know the characters. No one can not like these books, researched well and good imaginary storyline. Can’t wait for the next one.

An excellent follow on the series which has you totally gripped. Disappointed when I got to the end and can’t wait now for the next one in the series.

Enjoyable follow-on in this series. This one focuses on Freda, Sylvia and Veronica letting others into their inner circle!
Kathy Scott has been a thorn in Sylvia’s side, will they accept her? Sylvia has demons of her own. Freda is very protective of her sister Dorothy so when their mother isn’t very understanding of Dorothy’s situation will Freda manage to step out of her mother’s shadow to support Dorothy? Veronica has the most troubled life, suffering self-doubt after the effects of Mark Riley!
Her work is her saviour, even when sister Dyer is breathing down her neck, that is until she is called into the sister’s office!

Really enjoyed this follow-up. Instantly recognisable characters. Was worried for Veronica.
My favourite character was Freda for her strength, least favourite was Mark Riley who was a despicable person.
Can’t wait to see what author comes up with next.

I hadn't realised that this is the third book in a series; however, this didn't stop me enjoying the story or the character. I think by reading the previous books, I would have had more of a connection to them.

This very much reminds me of Call the Midwife, which I also enjoy, so I thought it would be right up my street. It is set in the winter of 1942, when times were hard for most people, but especially for women. Veronica, Sylvia and Betty are friends and Nurses. The three ladies face various challenges in their lives whilst the war rages on, but their friendship gets them through some tough times.

It is a book about hope, survival, resilience and friendship.

I would definitely like to go back and read the other books in the series. The characters are wonderful, and the scene setting is done well. Rachel Brimble is a new to me author but one I will be adding to my list.

Oh these books are just never long enough. In some respects this is good as you literally cannot move whilst reading them. Here's to the next one please!

It would have liked to read the previous books in this series, but I found the characters enjoyable and the story easy to follow. The friendship and hardships between the girls was uplifting especially during such devastation of their city. Look forward to the next one.

The characters Betty and Veronica bring to life their world during WWI. Having to hold onto their experiences and emotions during the war shows the closeness they have. During the war they only have who they hold dear. The trials of being a nurse during this time had to be so challenging

This is the 3rd book in the series. I'd recommend reading them in order as you get more of the background, things will make more sense.
While this book didn't have a lot of action, it set things up nicely for the next installment. I look forward to finding out what happens in the 4th book.

Yay the girls are back. I find it a little bit Hard to write about the book, since it is book number 3 in the series. But I think the girls develop a lot more in this book, and it keeps me invested. Thank you to netgalley for letting me read this e arc in exchange for an honest opinion
