Thank you to NetGalley, Harlequin Trade Publishing and author Lisa Unger for the ARC and opportunity to review this book.
It was just okay. I’m all for a revenge plot but this just seemed like a bunch of dramatic scorned women. Not that some of them didn’t go through something awful, but it was just too unrealistic.
I did enjoy learning about plans and their powers (both the good and the bad). That part was very interesting. I also like the relationship between the sisters in terms of family over anything.
I felt the plot was somewhat slow. It wasn’t overly suspenseful or ‘thrilling’. I’ll admit the ending I didn’t see coming but again I felt it was just unrealistic and I like my thrillers to be more based on events that have or could actually happen.
It is a quick read, just not an edge of your seat one.

Lisa Unger has another winner with her new book, Served Him Right. I loved this book. It kept me turning pages until the very end!

I went into this one blindly and really enjoyed the main storyline… trying to figure out who had committed the crime had me stumped! I have read most of Ungers work and enjoy her writing style. However, this one is probably my least favorite of her books. It is very revenge and scorned woman heavy, and very preachy at points. I like a good thriller, not politics or heavy opinions being added in.
The witch portion was very intriguing and totally had my attention! The characters were difficult to like, but in the end had some redeeming qualities. I binged this one in a day! Thanks to NetGalley and publisher for the ARC.

This was a fun and quick read full of vigilante justice by a group of incredibly clever women. I thought that the premise of these women being a part of a Wiccan tribe of herbalists was very clever. The book was well-researched with a ton of information about various plants and their uses - both for good and bad. Told with alternating POVs I truly did not anticipate the ending. I had plenty of guesses throughout but was pleased to discover that I was wrong about all of them.
I knocked off a star because the big climax scene at the Wolf Moon festival was quite rushed and I found the story to become a bit scattered. I also didn't entirely understand why just about every character ever mentioned in the story happened to be there (rarely mentioned teenage friends of the one of the main character's daughters for example). I found it a bit distracting. I also had to really suspend reality to believe that a police officer, actively investigating a murder investigation, would agree that whatever he heard at this event, he would not use in his case. For what reason? Because he had a hot hookup with one of the women there and felt some sort of magnetic pull towards her? Because the victim was actually a horrible person who, as the title alludes, deserved what he had coming to him? That took away from the ending quite a bit.
Nonetheless, it was a fun read. I liked trying to figure out throughout who the killer would be and I was pleasantly surprised when I found out I was always wrong.
This is an easy one to pass along to fans of mysteries/thrillers.
Thank you to Netgalley for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.

Having a get together with your friends after a break up, seems reasonable. The police showing up to tell you that your ex is dead, not so typical. But why are the police giving Ana more than a cursory glance? It is not like they know how Ana and her sister Vera were brought up. I mean, their family have always been herbalists, but that does not mean that murder runs in their family. Or does it?
After all, Ana was not the only person Paul had wronged. As the noose gets tighter, Vera must find out what really happened if she hopes to save her sister. Lots of secrets and a story that kept me turning pages and trying to guess who was guilty and why.

Thank you so much to netgalley and the publisher for the arc of this one in exchange for an honest review!
This book follows a woman and her sister that just recently broke up with her boyfriend. When the woman hosts a brunch for the sister with all of their friends, the boyfriend is found dead and someone from the brunch gets sick. The sister is the main suspect and the woman is trying to protect her sister in all of this.
I was not a big fan of this book. I’ve tried this author multiple times and I just don’t think she is for me.
I found all of the characters incredibly annoying and just hard to follow. It was basically just a group of scorn women and I’m not into that. I know some people like the revenge theme but I’m not a fan.
I found the plot to be slow and boring as well. This one just didn’t do much for me but I hope others enjoy.

Vera and Ana Blacksmith come from a family of female herbalists in a small northeastern community. Vera is married with two teenage children; Ana rides the monkey bar by continually moving from one man to another. During a breakfast brunch at Vera's house, the police arrive to question Ana about the death of Paul, a recent boyfriend. Soon after the brunch ends, Iggy, Ana's friend goes into a coma. Both incidents seem to be caused by poisoning. The story unwinds as a cat and mouse game between Timothy, the lead detective, and Ana, who says she is innocent and starts her own investigation. The plot is intertwined with the Blacksmith family history of mysterious poisonings. The book is repetitive in spots, restating character's personality traits. The dark sexual relationship between Timothy and Ana is a good twist to the plot. And Vera, as the steady and reliable sister, hides her own secrets. Recommended for readers who enjoy novels about family histories.

Lisa Unger books always serve and “Serves him right” definitely is serving!!
The plot follows Ana who meets up with her friends for a post break up brunch so she can vent about her recent ex Paul. When the news arrived that Paul is unalived and Ana is the main suspect, things go from pretty bad to way worse when one of Anas close friendly becomes deathly sick following their brunch together.
I loved the tension and chaos as the events unfolded and the themes of sisterly bonds and doing anything you can to protect those you love.
There is lots of drama, plot twists and surprises. The fast pacing will keep you turning pages and I couldn’t wait to see how it all came to a conclusion in the finale.
I always love Lisa’s books and this one was no exception, definitely a fun read so save for when you have time to sit and devour its contents.

Deliciously creepy with witchy, girl power vibes that I just loved! Ana Blacksmith has just been unceremoniously dumped by her boyfriend Paul. She throws a huge brunch with her sister Vera and invites many friends to celebrate her freedom. Her joyful celebration is halted by the arrival of the police, who announce that Paul is dead, they suspect it was murder, and that Ana is their main suspect. Everyone knows that Ana can be vengeful, and she was certainly angry at Paul, but would she kill him? Suspicions escalate when a guest at the brunch soon becomes violently ill.
But when it's revealed that Paul's list of potential adversaries is on the lengthy side, the investigation intensifies. But rumors of a secret network begin to emerge, and with it, their unconventional methods to obtain justice. The bonds of sisterhood are expertly crafted as Vera, who has always protected her sister, must clear Ana's name, as much for her sister as for herself and her own buried secrets.
Readers are going to love the atmosphere of this book and the portrayal of the bonds of sisterhood. Thank you to NetGalley and Park Row Books for this early read. This one publishes March 10, 2026.

Ana Blacksmith has just been dumped by her boyfriend -Paul. She decides to have brunch with her girlfriends to purge Paul from her life. The police soon show up to share that Paul has died and foul play is suspected and Ana is main suspect. Brunch takes a turn when Ana's best friend gets sick and ends up in the hospital.
Vera has always protected her sister and taken care of her. She must clear Ana's name as she has secrets she doesn't want to come out. She must find out who did this. The cove has protected its own and has its own set of rules.
I liked all the secrets, strong female friendships, and the witchy vibes.
