I was sucked into this book like the main character was sucked into the diary of this WWII recount of a Japanese woman. This take of Madama Butterfly made it feel less like a retelling because it was used as backstory for our main ghost and frankly it made it more enthralling to read. Historical facts were inserted and adjusted to make the story show a new perspective on top of it having an educational aspect on how war benefits no one. The only jarring part was how they resolved the ghost's plight but overall it was a fantastic read.
